  1. Could be the thermocouple that has gone or dirt in the pilot injector. We are happy to come and take a look for you. http://www.oneheating.co.uk Regards. Steve Peacock
  2. You are indeed being fobbed off. 1 bar is plenty for the boiler to fire up, you could have one of the following problems with this boiler. Scaled up plate to plate heat exchanger, Faulty diverter valve, Faulty hot water NTC sensor etc. Im assuming your rads get hot ok? If It was me I wouldn't waste money on the parts for this boiler as it will need many over the years. I would just get it replaced. Regards Steve Peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  3. if im not mistaken, a U16 domestic gas meter will carry 6 cubic meters of gas per hour which is enough for upto 64kw. You will need a stored hot water system to supply the hot water demand you will have in a b&b. I suggest unvented hot water storage which will deliver hot water at mains pressure. I wouldnt even consider combi boilers as they will not keep up with the demand. Depending on how many radiators there will be you would be better off with 2 system boilers, and 2 unvented cylinders minimum. I would also consider solar to help keep running costs down. You will need a secondary hot water circulation pump to ensure that hot water is available in a timely fasion to all taps, especially those furthest away from the cylinder. Your existing gas meter is up to the job. If you need any more help we are happy to visit, quote, survey or just advise. Regards. Steve Peacock (http://www.oneheating.co.uk)
  4. I suggest this could probably be a fault with the high limit ntc sensor. If it is giving false readings to the pcb it will shut off the gas as you have described. It could also be due to a blocked heat exchanger or faulty pump. I think you need to get a decent gas engineer with fault fining experience in front of this. I would check the ntc sensors first as these will be the cheapest to replace. Happy to take a look at a date and time suitable for you. Steve Peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  5. You could need a new thermocouple or perhaps some dirt has got into the pilot injector causing a weak pilot flame which wont heat the thermocouple enough to keep it lit. Happy to come and take a look if you want to pm me. Would be monday at earliest. Regards... Steve Peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  6. HI rothlad, As the other guys have said already, your system is probably sludged up, and the best, and most effective method to clean it, is indeed a powerflush. However there is an alternative which could be effective and much cheaper. You could add a system cleaner to your system and leave it in for a week or so. You would then need to drain the system, ensuring that all the cleaner was rinsed out, before filling with fresh clean water then adding an inhibitor to protect it from further corrosion / sludging. You could even fit a magnetic filter to help catch the black sludge while the cleaning chemicals were doing their job. I hope this info helps. Steve Peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  7. it will be fine as long as you dont run any hot taps. why do you want to turn it off if you dont mind me asking? steve peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  8. Try Bramhalls autobodies at Dore house industrial estate, Handsworth. Top guys ! do a fantastic job at very reasonable prices. Dont have their number at hand so Google em.
  9. Let us know when your ready, Always happy to help and advise. Steve Peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  10. Hi, Yes there is a smart way to test, and its by air pressure testing. It is better to test with air as it wont make a mess and can help find the leak via the noise you hear from the escaping air. With that said, there is only 1 true test and that is under temperature when the system is running. I didnt mean to worry you regarding the possibility of leaks as like I said, they dont happen that often, but it is something you should be aware of. Regards.. Steve Peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  11. Like Dan says, the sludge is kept inside the machine and the machine is always sited where it wont cause a mess. You should be aware that no one can guarantee your pipework, and fittings against leaking after a powerflush. Although it is rare, and in extreme cases, it is only the sludge that is preventing leaks and weeps from fittings such as rad valves. The best thing to do is get one of us guys round who can advise you. steve peacock http://www.oneheating.co.uk
  12. Check out our prices at http://www.oneheating.co.uk Why do you think the powerflush wouldnt be cost effective? The sludge is not just confined to radiators, so changing them means that the new ones get their share of the sludge from the pipework too. Also the heat exchanger of the boiler can be sludged up. regards... Steve Peacock
  13. Some showers, depending on the make can need resetting after a while. It could also be the temp cartridge at fault or blocked inlet filter on the hot side, amongs other things. I dont think having the boiler serviced is going to make any difference at all. It might not be anything to do with the boiler, and like Dan said check all your other hot taps are working as they should. Hope this helps... Steve Peacock
  14. Hi Sheffandy, I'm sorry to hear you have been put through all this. It basically boils down to them not having a clue what they are doing. It is true that intermittant faults are the worst kind to diagnose, but an experienced boiler breakdown engineer starts with a logical series of checks. The first checks, before swapping any parts inside the boiler should be.. is there gas to the boiler? is there power to the boiler? Unfortunately when these companies are paying their staff very little and giving them unrealistic targets so they can make their wages up, they just swap parts and guess at the fault, as they can earn more bonus than if they took the time to sort it first time. It just shows how much money they are making to be able to be so inefficient and still make a profit. PS they shouldn't be leaving gas leaks either. Dangerous and incompetent !
  15. I would be happy to go and take a look for free. I cant believe that anyone would allow an elderly lady to go without sufficient heating and hot water during the weather we had recently. Steve Peacock
  16. I cannot see the point to all this. British Gas turned over £1.4 billion last year on central heating work. They aren't known for being cheap, yet they take the lions share of an industry worth £4 billion a year. Do they rip people off? I'm affraid that can only be answered by their customers, who seem happy to use them. And the same is true for you. You have paid a fitter of your choosing, what you deem to be an acceptable price for an acceptable service. As long as your happy, and he has done the job to the industry standards then thats great. Unfortunately there are individuals and companies out there who do cut corners to enable them to do the job quicker and cheaper. There has to be faith and trust in the company / individual carrying out the work. It is via forums like this, where customers can carry out their research to arm themselves with the knowledge to ensure they get the job done right for the right price. Out of curiousity Danny11, what do you do for a living?
  17. oh I get it now !!! he TOLD you he did all those things in 1 day, so he must have. He didnt try to blind you with silly terms cos you were far too trusting and naive. Im sorry but it sounds like you got ripped off. the prices on the link you posted are the same as ours all in all, and i know the other fitters on here are there or there abouts with their prices too. I still cant see what kind of argument you can make when you cannot back up the prices you paid or the level of service you recieved with any form of evidence. However i believe you. i believe you got what you paid for. I'm sure you'll not be on here to appologise to all the fitters you have been wrongly pointing the finger at when your badly fitted boiler breaks down in the next 12 to 18 months. whatever.. i wish you good luck.
  18. Neither myself or any of the other reputable, time served, experienced, and quality plumbing and heating engineers who HELP people on this forum, have to frighten anyone into using our services. Between us we have helped countless people on this forum for FREE. Your installer (if as good as you claim) would surely have explained BS7593 in easy to understand terms (unless you weren't listening of course cos you already know it all). I cannot seem to work this out so maybe you could explain. The website you have posted for the company you used for your boiler, well none of their pricing structure seems to match what you paid !!! Did you get a special discount? You get what you pay for in my opinion, and no I dont earn £1000 per day. If I was chucking boilers in quickly for less money then maybe I would be on £1000 per day, but I would have to cut corners which Im not prepared to do.
  19. yes you should get all paperwork for boiler i.e. manuals, gas safety certificate etc. Take a look at front of boiler. It tells you on the front of the case the make and model.
