  1. Didn't there use to be water skiing on Treeton Dyke, or what about the Trent at Dunham bridge
  2. Netheredge hospital also contained a workhouse. I don't know how much of the site it involved but the single story building alongside the main road down to the traffic lights, was part of it. I worked on the refurbishment in the late 60s. There was a row of individual cells about 10 feet square which we knocked through into 2s and 3s to form offices. There were steel grids in the floor, an old guy there at the time told me the inmates broke up rocks until they would fit through the grids. I never really believed it but you never know.
  3. They should install security mesh aspecially if the squatters are inside
  4. Tasker There should be a blue plack on the wall
  5. I would advise anyone involved in a motor accident, to spend a couple of hours at A & E with suspected whiplash. What this allows you to do is employ a solicitor to claim for the injury. A claim for a few hundred pounds is rarely contested, the solicitors get paid by the insurers, and the damage to the car rides on the back of the personal injury claim,
  6. Income tax isn't the only tax the mega rich pay. They have a micro economy with themselves at the centre, employing domestic staff, drivers, personal trainers, sending kids to private school, paying for private medicine. the lefties amongst us may not approve but none the less their mega incomes are being spent in this country. Their houses are undergoing constant maintenance and upgrading. Good for construction workers, and building supplies. Overall it is better to keep tax levels manageable and keep the rich in the country
  7. My dad would always sidy the table after we'd eaten.
  8. I'd forgotten about Hamlet and although I can picture him I wouldn't have remembered his name. I was about 15 or 16. The crowd in the boneyard, all tried to give the impression they were hippies living rough and then got the bus home at the end of the night. What was his story Hamlet and where was he from.
  9. If alternating childcare is reward then we should assume that alternating lifts in a car is also a reward, this immediately makes everyone doing it guilty of driving without insurance, or would we all then have to take a PSV driving test.
  10. The government should get their act together and stop issuing NI numbers and accepting paye money. They should pay the paye and NI money back as it is the product of crime. No doubt the cleaner will get 5 years at her majesty's pleasure. Unless GOrDon forgives her as well
  11. I hought the paint warehouse on the left as you travel along Carlisle Street was Johnson's own depot.
  12. I saw a reference to the Coach and Horses being in a trade directory of 1838 and a ref. to Samuel Fox signing his first lease of a mill there in 1842. My question is when was it built and when was it openned as a pub, or coaching house I suppose.
  13. I can't download it, perhaps I'm not holding my mouth right.
  14. I've just remembered the chinese laundry, next to the Library, then Kitchens newsagents who raced greyhounds at Owlerton. Another newsagents accross the road, I'm struggling to remember their name, I think they lived on Providence Rd opposite Lark St
  15. David Milibands photo on yahoo mail today 6 july looks like Wallace. If one of you techy bods can link it to here I'd be obliged.
  16. I've had lots of these set backs over the years, invariably something else comes along which turns out better, relax don't worry (easy for me to say).
  17. Its a long time since I did anything under the bonnet of a car. But I am pretty sure, you are not just talking about an add on. somewhere on the steering column, something needs to activate the system, a pump needs a drive which may mean an extended shaft for an extra pulley and drive belt. The gearing on the rack and pinion, or steering box may be different. Is the Ka sold with and without power steering. If it is then sell yours and buy another. If Kas do not have power steering, forget it. A none standard conversion of something as major as that would scupper your insurance completely as it would take away the type approval of the car, and it then becomes a special, or kit car.
  18. Float valve is probably the PC name. Have a quick look at the old one before you go, so you know what you're looking for. Sometimes the very cheap ones are a bit rubbish, you might want to spend a couple of pounds more. Ask advice at the shop. Check before you go, ball cocks often fail because of a bit of dirt, or loose solder, opening and closing it a few times might clear it. They are very easy to take to pieces usually still in situe, just clean up the seal and put back. Good luck
  19. I've just had a glance at Tony's expenses on the parliament web site, it's almost all blanked out. Interestingly one of the items not blacked out, is a bill for £6990 for roof repairs. There is no VAT on it and I'm sure it should have it at this level of cost. I've forgotten when it kicks in, about £60K I think or £1200 per week. It doesn't give the contractors address, its probably a caravan site somewhere near Sedgfield.
  20. I've just read it, they didn't ban it they rejected the complaint, which was she didn't have a reflective jacket and it may encourage kids to cycle into a supermarket.
  21. I may be a cynic, if I wanted an ad to get attention, I'd get my brothers and my pals to ring up and complain, suddenly it's getting air time on youtube and it's on yahoo news. Duffy's ad only needed 18 complaints.
