  1. Why not switch them off and see what happens ( or what doesn't happen )
  2. I wouldn't say the bankers are incompetent, if you can build an organization That's 'too big to fail', that is; your organization will be bailed out by a second party (the government), demonstrates both a high degree of competence and ruthlessness, especially when the second party is funded by a third party (the tax payer) some of who will be eventually sacrificed for the greater good of everyone (well almost everyone), then being a banker would be great, a bit of public criticism and lots and lots of other peoples' money which you can call your own. Now what's wrong with that? Who would like to be a Banker?
  3. I suspect a memory issue, your currently installed memory maybe ok for the slower processor but your replacement processor maybe running faster than the memory can cope with. You could download Microsoft Memory Diagnostic tool http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp Run the exe to create an iso image then burn the iso to CD configure to boot from CD You can run the tool for 5 minutes or forever a warning will be displayed if an error is found. Also check the MOBO user manual for the memory required for that particular processor. Thats my best shot.
  4. I delibrately avoided suggesting removing the processor mainly because some processor/ fan assemblies are held together with plastic clips. the plastic tends to harden with age and instead of getting tne nice spring action from the pastic, you get a not-so-nice breaking action. My solution in this instance is to use cable-ties, I'm sure others have different solutions.

  7. If you've never built a computer, and before spending several hundred pounds on components. Try the following: Get an old tower computer ( that you know is working) and strip it down to its basic components. Do not remove the processor and processor fan from the motherboard. You should finish up with a pile of hardware which will include: An empty case Power supply Motherboard complete with processor, fan and memory Graphics card (if not using on board graphics) HDD CD / DVD drive IDE and or Sata cables Lots of small screws You should also have lots of notes indicating the position an orientation of various connectors. Wait 24 hours and then re-assemble. If all goes according to plan The computer should work. if it doesn't then....

  17. Acccording to Barbara Slater of the BBC the sport has never been more popular, and audiances are ate a 10 year high therefore the BBC should be showing all the races. The following from the BBC website Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: "We are absolutely delighted that F1 will remain on the BBC. "The sport has never been more popular with TV audiences at a 10-year high and the BBC has always stated its commitment to the big national sporting moments.
  18. When the lottery first started, I ran a £300 syndicate, the average return was around £50, after a few months syndicate members were getting frustrated with the whole thing, mainly because they expected a bigger return. At around the sametime there was disclosure of some dubious payments paid by the Lottery Commission (or whoever distributes the funds), one of which was to Winston Churchill MP of about £12 million for his grandfather's (Sir Winston Churchill) papers written during WWII. The syndicate was wound-up partly becuase of the poor returns, but mainly because everyone had a different idea of what a good cause is. I haven't played the lottery since Mike
