  1. Its a big allotment area, some are over-grown and not used whilst others are well maintained http://hagglaneallotments.blogspot.com/
  2. You are probably taking what was said completely out of context it was not meant for your ears or anyone elses except the recipient. To give an example In the recent ClimateGate scandal and published corespondance the author of one email contained the statement: "I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of...." Conspiracy theorists seized on this statement as evidence that the climate data was being manipulated to suit the scientists, after all what does "trick" mean? To the vast majority of people it means to decieve or mislead. However, you have to remember this message is private and not for public consumption and as such will contain statements that appear ambigous to the casual reader. In the context of email the word "trick" can be replaced with the word "technique" to give a more accurate meaning, but if the author had known that it would be in the public domain I'm sure the email would have been written differently.

  4. Microsoft SEcurity Essentials (MSE) offers very good protection it uses the same search engine and database as as Microsoft Forfront Security as used in corporate environments. MSE is free, its as good as ( not better than ) other free / subscription antivirus software (AVS) AVS is only half of it, what is also required is good practise by the user If you want to visit salacious, crack, hack, file-sharing sites then you should also expect to get infested with malware. The AVS applicaiton does not exist that protects you from all malware, but the user can do alot to help themselves. Ensure you operting system is up-to-date Ensure your AVS is up-to-date Ensure third party software is up-to-date Run regular malware scans: Malwarebytes is good for this Delete temp and cached files: CCleaner is good for this Backup your important data If you are using Windows-7, learn how to create a system image (you will have to invest in an extrnal hard drive) AVoid installing browser toolbars
  5. Can anyone provide a link to a website that takes you through the calculations, benefits and penalties for these solar systems. What happens say after about 8 years the controlling electonics fail? What happens of a panel develops a a fault? Who picks up the cost? It all sounds good in the short-term but I get the impression its just a money-go-round with the consumer paying the solar panel companies for the ride.
  6. I've modified my part of my original submission to: At the present the earth is warming and the CO2 concentration is 390-PPM, never in the earth's recent history (600,000 years) has the concentration been so high!
  7. Yet another example of companies left to their own devices, you would think OFGEM woukd ensure standard procedures were in place for this event. The link below may help http://www.uswitch.com/gas-electricity/prepayment-meters/
  8. The vast majority of the general public do not understand climate change, and Al Gore's little movie 'An Inconvenient Truth' didn't help, all it did was give the sceptics a tool to bash the scientists with. Occaisonally an expert appears on tv and says the rise in carbon emissons is giving rise to a 'blanket' of C02 in the atmosphere. Ask any member of the general public what a blanket is and they will probably answer 'something to wrap around you to keep warm. Co2 is rising but the planet is NOT being wrapped in CO2. So here's my take on the subject: The Vostok and Greenland ice-cores indicate there has been at least 4 cooling / warming cycles in the last 600,000 years. (give or take a few thousand) At the coolest point in each of the cycles the CO2 concentration was not less than 150 Parts Per MIllion (PPM). At warmest point of each cycle CO2 concentration did not exceed 300-PPM. At the present the earth is warming and the CO2 concentration is 390-PPM, never in the earth's recent history (600,000 years) has the concentration been so high! So the question is why so high? Well one possible answer is industrialization, the burning of oil, coal, gas, and de-forestation. Actually that's five answers: one answer;- Human Kind. If the increase is made by humans than its a truely frightening experiment we are putting ourselves through. Anyone over the age of 55 has probably nothing to worry about. There's lots of predictions for the future, one is for a concentration of 800-PPM by the end of the century, I think they are wrong, there will be nobody around to take the measurement:- WWIII. Link to CO2 concentration http://co2now.org/ Anyone wanting to know why the earth has warming and cooling cycles should see the following ( or enter milankovitch cycles in their favourite search engine ) http://www.sciencecourseware.org/eec/GlobalWarming/Tutorials/Milankovitch/
  9. There's an add-on for Firefox called Firesheep, when used in an unsecured wifi area, access to others facebook accounts is/was possible. The loophole may have been plugged. http://blogs.computerworld.com/17226/firesheep_addon_allows_the_clueless_to_hack_facebook_twitter_over_wi_fi
  10. Are you launching from a shortcut on the desktop or from Start > Menu (Outlook 2010) see the following link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/appvbeta/thread/67a13bfc-1db9-4bb2-ac5a-aa3c8b746e78
  11. Since you have re-installed office, Outlook requires you to setup a valid email account with the correct username and server settings once established you can remame the newly created pst file (call it [email protected]) and then substitute one you think is valid. Closedown outlook when swapping the files. I have never tried setting an account where I could not connect to the server and then changing the PST, I can't think why should not be able to do it, but then some MS applications are just wierd I've just noticed on one of your posts; are you using the 64-bit version of office or are you refering to the operating system?
  12. windows-7, Outlook 2010 PST files normally live along this path for IMAP style accounts C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook the complete filename is usually of the form "[email protected]" Obviously the account settings have to be correct to use the pst
  13. The only problem: its supplied with Windows-7 Home Premium 32-Bit OS it may be an error on the website, but before purchasing check for Windows-7 Home Premium 64-Bit OS otherwise all that extra memory will go to waste!
  14. Probably the hard drive is falling, if you have a linux live-CD distro (ubuntu, zorin, puppy linux) try booting from that, and navigating around the hard drive. if it contains some impportant data connect an external USB hard drive and use the linux distro to copy the data
  15. Since your AVS is now out of date, uninstall Norton and install Microsoft Security Essentials link below: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspx run a full scan with MSE Other stuff you should install and run: Ccleaner, Malwarebytes, TDSkiller The following is a synopsis of a conversation I had with an anti virsus software expert recently.... 'Expert': did you know that when the subscription runs out on .. some versions of McAfee the network connection deteriorates? 'Me': No, are you sure? 'Expert'; well, removing Mcafee, restarting and installing Microsoft .. anti-virus solved the problem. I have not been able to verify this, maybe someone reading this thread has come across this situation.
  16. According to Exposed magazine, sales of the flats start on the 8th of October, the original poster wanted questions well lots have been asked so where are the answers? http://www.exposedmagazine.co.uk/new..._on_Sale_Soon/ Having lived in a block of flats where service charges are applied I know you have very little control over them, the management company are not providing a social service, they are there to make money from the lease holders. If you are thinking of buying a property or flat remember the latin phrase " Caveat Emptor ". If you don't know what the phrase means then any selling agents will be rubbing their hands together and have a grin longer than the Clifton suspension bridge. You can also ask yourself: What are my real reasons for buying? one of the answers will be 'paying rent to a landlord is dead money'. Well, paying service charges to a management company can be considered 'dead money'.

  18. There is a case going thru the Italian courts involving murdered british student Meredith Kercher and the conviction of american stundent Amanda Knox The mothers of these two girls have been interviewed on TV and both are very emotional about the case Some of the evidence is allegedly suspect, and if believed the whole investigation was bungled. The judge has appointed 'Experts' to look at the evidence The prosecution say the 'Experts' are not qualified enough to examine the evidence. A final judgement is will be made by October, if found guilty she faces 25 years behind bars. It seems to me the american will be convicted or acquitted not whether she committed the crime but rather what organizations or inividuals will be damaged least. The same goes for the hypothetical question, if there is no-doubt and you are a close friend/ relative well thats how it is:- and deep down you know that. But if you have good solid reasons to believe otherwise then, the rest of your life is going to be tough and quite probably fall apart.
  19. This could be really bad if for whatever reason you want to boot from a Linux Live Distro CD, Barts, or UBCD4 WIN and you can't turn off the secure boot! Read this http://www.techspot.com/news/45605-microsoft-responds-to-windows-8s-secure-boot-requirement-c oncerns.html and this http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Windows-8-to-include-secure-boot-using-UEFI-2-3-1-1335246.html
  20. I never use trail versions of operating systems: whats the advantage? The dis-advantage is it will be full of security holes! Add the following to your promise list Allways update the operating system Allways use and update anti-virus software Allways update third-party software Over 50% of motherboards fail because of Electrolytic Capacitors A capacitor failure may in-turn cause the failure of other components. An Electrolytic Capacitor has a wet and/or crystalline structure, which tends to dry-out. The link below has a brief discussion about them. http://jonrosensystems.com/2011/03/capacitor-failures/
  21. Update #14 ‎24 ‎September ‎2011, ‏‎08:16:50 NASA’s decommissioned Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. EDT Friday, Sept. 23 and 1:09 a.m. EDT Sept. 24. The satellite was passing eastward over Canada and Africa as well as vast portions of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans during that period. The precise re-entry time and location are not yet known with certainty. http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/uars/index.html
  22. What anti virus software are you using? and what is the connection speed? Virgin cable or via BT landline? speedtest here http://speedtest.net/
  23. I think it is wrong to half (or more) as income tax, I seem to remember when Alistar Darling introduced it, the re-election of Labour was pretty slim, so Darling created the band so Labour could 'dare' the tories to remove it. I also think you should not begin paying income tax until you are earning at least 60% of the national average wage/ salary. Having the above 2 conditions may also mean having the lowest income tax band set at around 25 pence.
  24. if the nutrino detector is moved back half-way along the tube and the experiment repeated, if the error is 30 nanoseconds then it supports the theory that the nutrinos are travelling faster than light speed, but if the error is still 60 nanoseconds then there's an error in calculating the nutrino speed. Bet they can't move the detector.
