  1. Crikey, You could write a John LaCarre style novel based on some of misinformation statements on here. All you have to do is: 1) decide Where the Circus, Section and Departments are 2) who are the Good / Bad / Double-agents 3) who are the Nice / Good and Excellent (bad) girls 4) who are the informants of misinformation (any from 2 or 3 of the above or others) 5) who is the enemy (could easily be any of 1 above) The Title could be something like "Fifty Pulls of Alfie's Toothpaste Machine", then nobody would know what it was about and everybody could speculate on both the title and narrative because the narrative would also be meaningless.
  2. The refuse collection company should commission a whole fleet of trucks to operate on a similar principle, then the streets would not be strewn with rubbish after they've gone by.
  3. Unmanned aircraft (Drones) may become a regular feature over the UK see the following link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19397816 I woudn't be suprised if they were made small enough to chase joy-riders and car-jackers, or peek through your bedroom window!
  4. Well Old Tup, you should have formulated your argument better: just stating "I've worked all my life" and "I shouldn't pay tax on my pension" is not a valid argument. I would like to see the personal tax allowance increased to at least half the national average salary that would take lots of people out of tax, however the basic income tax rate may have to be increased a couple of percent to ensure the treasury get their income, but of course that's a whole new debate.

To scan a particular folder launch WD from the shortcut select Custom Scan Click scan and navigate to the folder to be scanned and tick the box Click OK WD log file is along the path C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Support\MPlog-xxx...xxx.log Safe Mode: By default Safe Mode is disabled on Windows 8 Consumer Preview follow the instructions on this link to enable Safe Mode http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-enable-windows-8-safe-mode/ Safe Mode is a pain to set up, hopefully MS will have it enabled by default on the final release. Safe Mode with networking tested by Updating and running Malwarebytes, appears ok.
  6. Something stinks in this Armstrong fiasco, you don't know what hidden agendas people have, for example some of his Tour de France team-mates my consider they have not had enough recognition for supporting him and so this is a sort of payback time. It maybe someone in the Anti-doping Agency doesn't like Armstrong and so they are using all their power and infuluence to discredit him. Maybe there should be a 3000km race where the cyclist are allowed to use whatever drugs they like, it would be instresting just to see who entered such a competition!
  7. Sorry Old Tup but I have little sympathy for you. If you took a little more interest in how your private pension operates when you were paying into the scheme (that is what you pay in, what tax relief you get, what your employer pays in) and how the income tax system works you would be in a better position to provide an argument as to why you shouldn't pay tax, but of course you haven't. The Personal Allowance for someone aged 65-74 for tax year 2012-13 is £10,500 The basic state pension for a single person is £5600 (approx) HMRC consider the state pension and other pensions as taxible income. Thus if your state pension plus your private pension exceed your personal allowance you pay tax.
  8. In the late 1950's and early sixties, went there for the Saturday afternoon matinee, was 7d in the stalls and 9d for the balcony. Batman, Zorro, Captain Marvell were the film serials along with a couple of cartoons, Laural and Hardy comedy, and Hoppalong Cassidy for the cowboy. They also had a guy playing an Accordian whilst the cinema filled up. Crikey makes me feel old!
  9. I've a 3 year fixed tarrif agreement with SSE (signed up August 2011), so come July/ August 2014 I will be looking for another fixed deal.
  10. I have a love/ hate relationship with Poundland: The love part is they have boxes of maltesers, After Eight and Marshmellows, and sometimes little bags of Thorntons choclolate assortments. So for a fiver I can get a wide variety of chocolate. The hate part is although I try to make the chocolate last, as soon as I've got a pot of tea the contents of the packs seem to disappear as if by magic.

  13. Do not do anything yet, the Smart meter specification is still to be finalized. see the following link http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/tackling/smart_meters/smart_meters.aspx
  14. I wouldn't be supprised if they increased passenger capacity by ripping out all the seating and installed overhead grap-straps and grap bars. Of course that will only be in 1st class. Standard class won't have the grap-straps.
  15. In Greek mythology Gaia is the goddess of the earth.

  17. There's a relationship between life expectancy of animals and expected maximum heart beats If I find a decent link that explains it I'll post it here ( or someone else will) Edit: It's about 2 billion heartbeats in a lifetime; see the following link http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=12877984
  18. I don't have a credit card, I have a bank account with a debit card I only buy something if I've got money in the bank to pay for it, and I only buy stuff from reputable organisations even if that means paying a little more. The upshot of which is I don't have any debts. The lesson was taught to me from a very young age by my mum.
  19. I've always wondered why the dinosaurs were on the planet for millions of years yet never discovered fire, religion, or weapons of mass destruction, all they appeared to do is have a good time: that is- eating, fighting, and breeding.
  20. I get the same effect: its ok in IE9 but out of sync in Chrome. Searching around the web others are experiencing the same problem but there does not appear to be a definitive answer. I've installed the Fast Tube extension allowing YouTube videos to be downloaded. The downloaded video plays ok in VLC player.
  21. Could afford the luxury of clips, used a piece of old folded newspaper, thing is if installed on the wrong side it would loosen the wheel spokes
  22. You could try deleting any applications that you no-longer use and turn off system restore, then treat yourself to a new computer at Christmas Remember if you turn off system restore there is no way back! you have been warned!!!
  23. Are there other little annoying problems that you put with on the netbook such as the applications not always starting or email client shuts down for no apparent reason? if so you may have a some malware running or trying to run. Download, install and run the latest free version of Malwarebytes http://mbo.origin.mb-internal.com/products/malwarebytes_free/ I suggest the above because I recently had something called Trojan.LameShield burried away on my main machine, and only malwarebytes run in safe mode would remove it. Also do a full scan with your antivirus software.
  24. Post a link to a youtube video that shows the characteristics you describe and we will all view it and give our opinions
  25. I quite like RT it gives the complete opposite point of view to the same item in the BBC
