  4. I am very grateful indeed to all you suggestions and all the very useful info that you have given and made me aware of. One thing is for sure, the people of Sheffield seem very nice if you guys are typical of them! regards, Pete
  5. SHsheff, Yes, that is good advice and i was considering to that sometime soon. Just wanted to get a feel of what you guys who know the area in and around Sheffield thought. As Ewdenstar said-- consider near a tram line. I think that probably would be best considering the main criteria I have set us. ie Transport and hospitals. That link you gave Jibbo was very impressive but going out of the price range I have set. I am thinking of £500 to £600 a month- preferably closer to 5 but , of course, we want something decent. I hope I am being realistic in all this. Please feel free to let me know if I am not. Better to be told 'striaght' as they say rather than build up my hopes. Thanks, Pete
  6. Hi, Thanks very much for your views and opinons-- it is very much appreciated. My wife is still working as a health care assistant. I am retired and in remission from cancer so will want access to a hospital for follow ups etc. That property in Hathersage was too big for the two of us now. A two bedroomed would be just right so that e could put family and friends up etc for a few days. Transport is a key issue- preferably a railway as I get free travel as a perk from my job after I had to retire. Good access to a large City like Sheffield would be ideal. My wife and I like the Peak district area and Sheffield looks a City that is constantly improving with good transport links. I will need to get to London fairly frequently as my daughter is there. I am getting much more drawn to this part of the world. Once again, thanks for all your help.
  7. Both in our 60's my wife and I want to move in the area. Not in the City but a small town/Village within easy travelling distance. If someone could come up with some suggestions then I will know where to start . We have some main criteria. Must be fairly near a railway station. Also able to get to the local main hospital easilly using public transport. I drive but my wife doesn't. We also want to rent a property. Cannot go through all the hassle of buying again. A two bedroomed place would be nice and the budget in the region of £500 to £600 per month. Is that a reasonable rent for what we are aimong at? A sort of market town would be nice with some nice walks in the countryside at hand. Would welcome any siggestions please then maybe I will have some sort of a 'start point'. Thanks a lot.
  8. I enjoyed those web sites muddycoffee. I'll spend some time browsing through them. Sheffield looks a real haven for Real Ale drinkers! I am hoping to move into the area one day. Probably outside of Sheffield. Looks as though the transport links are excellent as well. That is a 'key' need for me. Last time I was in Sheffield was for a semi-final at Hillsborough whem my team lost 2-1 to Sunderland. You can see how long that was ago! I was thinking of Grindleford area as a place to rent a place in.
  9. Is the Kelham Island Brewery located in the Fat Cat Pub? Any idea of costs of a pint in the two pubs mentioned. Cheers.

  11. Hi, I want to visit the Fat Cat Pub as I have heard so much about it. Great Real Ale! I will be arriving into Sheffield by train at the main station. I am new to the area so please forgive any questions that may seem pretty obvious. I understand there is a tram service in Sheffield. Can I get to the Fat Cat from the station by using the tram or will I have to walk? regards, Pete
