  1. i think the place you are talking about was fred hartleys...it was supposed to be trade but i think everyone had got a pass to get in there, we really thought we were buying some real bargains, would be worth a fortune on ebay now though. lol
  2. hi lynn, you may know me not my mum, lol, as i left colley in 60/61. with your surname i remember sandra ,geoffrey, and martin, i dont think they were related though. i lived on wheata rd from it being built till 1964 and mum n dad lived there till 2001. i went to both monteneys before going on to colley, so i probably do know you, where did you live?
  3. i remember Wetherall he was my form teacher. i think in the 2nd year, i always thought of him and Gibbs as letcherous dirty old men, my favourite was of course Brightmore, then there was fizz and Mrs Salveta, didnt Mr Burgin and Mr shaw both die whilst on their holidays. [not tog lol] oh and the one that wore a beret, the music teacher, his name escapes me at the moment, I think it began with I maybe Ibbotson, Miss Hudson and Miss Piper, Mrs Moore to name a few more. happy days,i never wanted to leave school.
  4. do you know Janine who lives by the side of the gennel on Holgate cres, she is an old friend of mine.
  5. I knew Ralph Hardwick as his older sisters were friends of mine, [they lived on the cres] sadly Ralph passed away a number of years ago. i think there is only his sister Margaret left, as both Pat and Anita have also passed away. Ralph was a prison officer at Leeds or was it Manchester prison for many years. will answer your pm shortly sorry for delay
  6. he never wore a mini but i well remember his doc martin boots lol
  7. Can you still remember the names of the footie team....i can remember some perhaps you can fill them in WAM, Ben Grayson, Gary Baker, Raymond Else, Stuart Booth, David Reading, John? Parker, and i think there was an Ian after that i'm lost help
  8. yes Pete, I was a witness to the deed on the said night, along with all the others from the youth club or was it the colley young socialists footie crowd, Ben Graysons dad was manager, and i remember my dad having an honourary roll too (he too is still with us, aged 90, and very frail now, and my mum was with us till last dec too].I was with Margaret Harrison and June Fowler a short while ago, sadly it was at Linda Jacksons funeral. Her and I had remained best friends all our life, and I miss her terribly. Do you remember our sunday morning hikes too, and the long staff you used to take. We went round rivelin valley, up stanage edge into hathersage, played footie somewhere near little johns grave then on to fox house, where some of us got the bus home, too tired to walk anymore, then on to Don Halls for a sunday night party with much underage drinking going on, and we thought we were the wild bunch....the kids of today would consider us very tame. Are there anymore of our lot out there from the youth club or footie team come on lets hear from you too...we can all reminiss together. Look forward to more posts. ps remember me to your Mick too. If he goes on friends reunited he will see himself on one of our class school photos.........Sue Elliott
  9. does anyone remember the big stone cross on St Pauls church getting struck by lightening and having to be taken down cos it was dangerous, and then replaced with the wooden one. i also remember Pete Herring from Wordsworth ave climbing up the tower onto the old stone cross, under cover of darkness ofcourse.
  10. hi, yes joto it does mean seaside, i've relocated to the east coast, and after what i read is happening with parson cross i'm pleased i did, but in my heart it will; always be the special place where i grew up.
  11. where has everyone gone, i'm suffering withdrawal symptoms....no posts since 5th june, and where is everyone from new parson cross, you know wheata, monteney, rokeby etc....looking forward to more posts
  12. i saw jimmy clithero at "the lyceum" in the 50's also went to see ruby murray and eddie calvert [the man with the golden trumpet] there too, all of them were brilliant, as for the fruit n veg man with the horse and cart, i remember my dad and mr titman across the road from us bidding against each other for the bucket of horse sh*t. happy days.
  13. i think john would be 62 63 now as he was in the same year at school as me, and he may well have been the bully cos i remember he was always in trouble and i think in his teens he may well have been expelled, but when you got talking to him he was a nice enough lad. i think today he would probably have been diagnosed as ADHD or one of these other new fangled titles that are given to kids who dont toe the line, and i seem to remember he didnt know the meaning of fear, he just carried on regardless
  14. no i left in 1986, and i hate to hear all the rough stuff thats happening there now cos its still in my heart and soul, its where i grew up, where i learned all my values, and where i made all my childhood friends, whom i still love dearly
