  1. There is an alarming post on Facebook Only in Meersbrook group about a local guy who was mugged on his bike going through the tunnel last night, he was badly bruised and shaken up and his glasses broken. It appears there is a group of youths hanging around there and people have been intimidated several times recently, police haven't been able to do anything. It is a useful shortcut but clearly not safe. Don't use it.
  2. How sad - beautiful Whirlow brook Hall looks like a soft furnishing factory that has been abandoned. I cannot believe that this wonderful building has been allowed to die like this. It was one of the few accessible places that people in wheelchairs could get a cup of tea and enjoy lovely surroundings. The park looked beautiful today in the snow
  3. dronfield by pass is a major trunk road and yet there is only one lane open and lying snow - has DCC no snow ploughs?
  4. Last Tuesday I went on a white knuckle ride in a double decker stagecoach X17 bus to work in CHesterfield. It went at breakneck speed through the snow past all the cars - terrifying ! http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/images/smilies/help.gif
  5. Chris was a wonderful head and really nice person- he did so much for Meersbrook Bank and I can't believe this news. Condolences to his family and all his friends and the Woodthorpe community
  6. Hi - Davido is back - went last night food as good as ever!
  7. I agree- Everest is consistently excellent and they deliver too, but a hidden gem is Momtaz which is 200 yards further up Chesterfield road. Curry to die for - a different and drier curry, nice small and friendly restaurant - also deliver . Both have menus on internet

  9. UsuallyFerdinandos at Meadowhead is a great little restaurant but try to avoid it if they have a big party booking upstairs - we waited over an hour for our order to be taken and others even longer. Why they took our booking in the first place and that of the other people who were downstairs I do not know- in spite of the very apologetic staff we weren't hungry when our meal finally came. However the food was excellent as usual and I think it was a bad night !
  10. I agree- I am now going to wander over to Abbeydale road to find something!
  11. Its just disappeared - i can't believe such a good restaurant has gone, Chesterfield Road now has none before Woodseats except the nearby but unfriendly Al Carretto
  12. What has happened to Portofino ? It has gone, I cannot believe it has folded the food was soooo good. There is no Italian on Chesterfield Road now before Woodseats.
  13. if you are serious about doing social work I would suggest you worked at something related / did vol work, a good option might be to apply for a teaching assistant in a school or some otehr way of working with young people. If you think you want to work with adults a job in a care home/day centre wouldn't be a bad idea - then apply for the MA. Its appalling that social work has no other route other than 3 year degree of 2 year postgrad unlike teaching that has the GTP and PGCE options you will get your fees paid and a 6k bursary but I think the rules have changed so check it out. Working for a year 's in a relevant area or voluntary work will certainly help you get on the course. . Quite often a local authority take students on in their second year - pay them trainee rates to work for them for 2 years. It is not difficult to get a job once you are qualified but bear it in mind the money is not good for a lot of responsibility . I don't regret doing social work but I wish I could have earned a bit more. Compared to teaching the salaries are pretty dreadful - whereas 20 years ago they were similiar. Good Luck
