  1. BT Infinity, Sky, and Virgin fibre optic are the only ones i know of that are truly unlimited, as in no download limit and no throttling at peak times. The rest, even if they state unlimited (this is just me checking the small print of contracts) all have clauses in stating that they can throttle your speed during peak times or if you are seen to be an excessive user. As a student in a shared house i have put a lot of research into this as you can imagine 5 students rack up a lot of internet/download time.
  2. I dont really think thats the case. I just recently switched from wirless/cables to adapters and i cannot tell or see a difference between these and the cables. And as of yet they havnt dropped out at all. Im on some Netgear 200Mbps ones, easy to set up and much better than having wires all over the floor.
  3. Hi, last year (or indeed the year before now) i moved into a rented property in preston for a years work with two friends of mine. We moved out in September 2012 and left the place as clean as we thought necessary. We mowed the lawn, and the inside was spotless. However when we got the report on our deposit back in late November claiming that the grass and hedges were overgrown, plus the house needed deep cleaning and so we would lose a couple of hundred pounds of our deposit. We thought this was outrages and asked for proof, which they supplied. There proof consisted of a picture of some crumbs on the kitchen work surface and another picture of the grass overgrown, even though the report was 2 months after we mowed the lawn. We wrote back to them saying we weren't happy and we also pointed out that they rented us a house with a gas fire fitted and turned on that didn't have a flue and that they were lucky we weren't informing the HSE. We received an email saying they were investigating and would get back to us. This was the last email we ever received from them and now they ignore any emails that we send. Its been six months and we would like our deposit back on principal more than anything else. Is there any proper investigation or authority that we could go to or ask for help? Ive even gotten my parents involved who had to act as guarantors even though we were three single men earning 20K each, and in fact more than my parents. Sorry for the long winded piece of rubbish that is my writing.
  4. A good mate of mine is an optometrist and he says only go for it if your below 45 unless you have disposable income as you will more than likely require glasses in the next ten years anyway as your eyes deteriorate. Im just waiting till i finish Uni (only 6 weeks wooo) and then getting them done whatever the price.
  5. Its less likely to ever be someone from outside sheffield as when you go to somewhere you dont know your constantly scanning for road signs etc. The only objection I have to this particular bus gate is that if you do end up heading towards it, it isnt the easiest of busgates to avoid, especially if you dont know the area. As most of the side roads that you have to go down look like dodgy dead ends.
  6. You allways with technology have to take things on forums etc with a pinch of salt as who goes on to the internet to say "my dishwasher works fine, thanks bosch" everyone just goes on with the bad stuff. And whilst there may be a couple of thousand people in a bad case complaining about something what you have to remember is that they have probably have sold millions and so the percentage of breakages is often very low and below 0.1%.
  7. I say keep the bus lanes and keep the fines and then use the money to subsidies the bus fare. I would love to use public transport more often as it is (if they were well used) the best and more eco friendly way of getting around a city. Plus if i was going out with the GF then i could have little drink over dinner. As it is for me to get from my house to meadowhall/retail park i would be looking at £7-8 for the journey there and back and so a car is just cheaper and easier to use, and if you are to add another person into the equation driving is a no brainer.
  8. these events have allways had a blue element have they not? Im only 24 but i can remember many years ago a red nose tv program with naked men running about and thinking thats very rude. Is it just a case that kids stay up later nowadays, or was it really that dirty (cant say didnt watch it). The show goes on late does it not and in my eyes swearing and blue jokes are allowed after 10 (maybe even 9) and if your child is up at that time then you as the parent have deemed them old enough or mature enough to cope with the content. Tbh i haven't watched one of these nights for years now as they are just terrible to watch, with poor presenting and even poorer comedy/tv shows. And the people that you guys have mentioned so far are all hasbeens and several have never beens.
  9. Basically what we have learnt from this thread is that fault finding pc's is a *****. Glad you found the problem pretty fast anyway, anyone who has built a pc before knows the problems that can occur and sometimes they can take ages to solve.
  10. unfortunately sheffield isnt the best place to get car insurance. I live in S10 a part of sheffield that most people would agree is reasonably nice, the car is registered as off road private parking doing less than 8K a year. However when i was living in preston last year my insurance was around £250 less. (24yo with an average insurance price of around £800, on a 1.2 polo). I was getting quotes of around 6-800 in preston but get quotes of around 750-1000 here. And another thing i notice is that at my age ncb seems to count for very little. I did an experiment and put in 0 ncb and then 7yrs ncb and the difference was less than £75
  11. Thats a fair point, Why keep watching something if you think its rubbish just because you like the genre. I like sci-fi/fantasy films and yet after watching (forced by the GF) twilight i didnt go to the sequels on the theory that they mite get it right this time.
  12. depends where you are but i would look for your local riding club or local show event and put a poster up or if they have a website post on there. Most places go by word of mouth for stables as people like to know what the owner is like etc. I would also say that your ad is a little hard to understand at points with mention of water bills and supplying own electric fence.
  13. The best Chinese ive had in sheffield was at the Canton Orchard and im surprised that you were dissapointed, ive never heard a bad word about it and every time ive been the food has been nothing but superb.
  14. Tbh i would guess those three will just have small roles in the film, cant really see mark hamill and carrie fisher jumping about with lightsabers and harrison ford is well past it now, the last indiana jones showed that. If they want to stay in the same era as the past films they will have to do something along the lines of the new start trek films and slightely alter the setting. However thats now been done. In my eyes if they want a starwars film they have to go into the past like KOTOR or into the future and just remove themselves from any association with what happened in the previous films, otherwise you may as well just call it a remake
  15. just do what my neighbor does and build regardless, and when he finally gets rejected the council will do nothing anyway and you will get away with it.
  16. because if you force people to pay too much then lots of people start to have guns without a license. All you have to do is look at how many people dont pay insurance (a legal requirement to drive on the road) and you can see what would happen if a gun license was several hundred pounds. I personally believe that in cases like the one in the article the man having a gun or not, would not have stopped the crime. If he was so inclined to kill these women he could have done so with or without a gun, ie strangulation or a knife. Whilst guns are a tool that makes killing easy, they are just that, a tool and if someone has murderous tendencies in them they will carry them out none the less.
  17. Just do what everyone does when they need a new key for a microsoft product, ring them up and tell them that you have a new motherboard as the old one was faulty and you need to re-install, simple. Also at what stage do you have a new pc? is it getting a whole new one, is it changing the motherboard, ram and cpu is it just changing the hard drive. seems like a load of bull to me coming from micro$oft that they simply will not be able or legally able to enforce.
  18. you never know, i tried the online dating thing last year because i was working away from home and didnt really now the city or many people there, plus i work in a very male dominated industry so meeting women there is nearly impossible. I would say it was one of the best things ive done, although i would say that girls in my age group (20-25) all seem to have the same job on dating sites, they all seem to be teachers or childcare, got bored of asking the same questions to every single girl
  19. To me its just absurd to be closing DVS now as this will be the first spring and summer after the olympics which has by most accounts inspired younger people to go out and use sporting facilities. I know the libdems have allready quoted a figure of several hundred thousand more to demolish the stadium and lay the staff off than it would cost to keep the stadium open for a couple more years. I would also ask what does this mean for sheffield eagles?
  20. but then you wouldnt get the 10 second early warning beeps from your speakers.
  21. Surely everyone shares a toilet, or is it just me? There has only been one year of my life where ive been on my own and that was my first year at uni where i was in halls with my own bathroom, other than that ive either lived with my family or friends. Surely youve got a warped view of life if you think that you will always have your very own porcelain throne sat there waiting for you and only you.
  22. most pc speakers are cheap, meaning that the wires are thin and not well shielded and can pick up electrical noise, the amplification in the speakers is cheap, and cheap amps tend to buzz anyway. Or as has been mentioned it could be an earthing issue or a dirty connector but i would see these two things as the least likely. or they simply could just be on there way out.
  23. What you need, as has been mentions is an external DAC like the arcam r-pac, musical fidelity V-dac or cambridge audio dac magic for started dacs. although looking at your speakers it may not make a great deal of difference anyway. for example i have monitor audio BX2's plus a cambridge audio 351a amp, which cost about £500, and using a dac when i play music from my laptop improves sound quality probably 50-80% depending on the track in question.
  24. You'll not really find too many shops that sell 'gaming' cases as they are quite specialist. I would say try different websites Ive never really liked dabs. Ebuyer.com and Overclockers.co.uk are my favorites, but try Scan.co.uk as well.
  25. tyres make a huge difference, if you were to put all terrain tyres on a 2wd car it would get further than a 4x4 with road tyres on. I get everywhere on the farm in 2wd cos im using the correct tyres, very rarely does it have to be put into 4wd. What i hate about most Chelsea tractor drivers is that they believe that there 4x4 means that they can still do the same speeds as when the road is dry. The fact is, is that 4x4 doesnt increase stopping distance and in many cases the heavier vehicle makes stopping pretty poor.
