  1. I attended every concert watching bands like SOB, Lazy Jake, Hot Property,Greensleeper to name but a few,Shape of the Rain had a huge following in those days.I's there any history about Western Park concerts back in the early seventies, this was a great event and appreciated by many progressive rock fans in the area,it was probably Sheffield's answer to Woodstock.
  2. I was a member of the band in 1981 this was a 5 piece line up then with guitarist Marshall john smith. I was recruited by John after leaving Radiation due to financial problems and family commitments. This was a professional band playing night clubs and the W.M.C scene up and down the country. John O hara was defiantly one of the finest soul singers and performers in clubland history and a great guy to work with. The late seventies O'Hara playboys line up,(who had recently won on New Faces) had 4 Playboy members who with myself, became the original Radiation line up in 1979 Pictures of the late 70s playboys band can be seen on Radiation.org.uk John recorded an LP in 1980 called No Turning Back which was produced by John Goodison at Look records, mainly original songs and a few covers.John continued with the Playboys until 1983 when he quit the band and went solo.John is still singing to this day around the local pubs and clubs, sadly to say whats left of them.
  3. Hi, we are an established Rock an Roll band looking for venues in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire and would like to play at your jam session. We are a 5 piece line up with keyboards, would there be an electric piano there by any chance.
  4. I was a founder member of this band from 1979 to 1981 the original members were, Steve Whitehouse (drums), Bruce Butler (bass Guitar), Chris Franklin (Lead guitar), Peter Rhodes (Lead Vocals), Colin joined the band as a sax Player along with Simon Ellis on Trumpet in March 1979.The band was originally a Six piece professional soul band and was based in South Yorkshire. The Bands First gig was Gleadless Valley W.M.C. in July 1979. Colin Lumsdale eventually became front man, band leader and later introduced his electrifying stage show at the the beginning of 1981 when, we entered a battle of the bands competition for EMI Records and came 2nd.The Line up then was Coiln (Lead Vocals) Chris (Lead Guitar) Bruce (Bass) Richard (Keyboards) and Steve (Drums). The show started with CARS by Gary Newman and Colin performs his robotic dance routine then came CUT A LONG STORY SHORT by Spandau Ballet, Colin then introduced some his original songs starting with SUBWAY LODGER followed by FIRST TIME then MY LAUNDRETTE DISASTER and finally STIFF AND COLD.We return for an encore and play TURNING JAPANESSE By the Vapors. A Band called the GENTS did won the competition.I still have the original VHS video recording of this concert and some early photographs of the band in 1980. Colin was an extraordinary person and will be remembered for his exceptional stage performance which astounded audiances all over the country. I left the band later in 1981, they became a very successful until 1983 when they split, and went to south Africa. RIP Colin we all miss you
