    So whats the answer?

The Council reject the application, make it very clear that it's listed status will be preserved long term, forcing Platts to give up and sell it to one of the multiple parties who wanted to buy it and re-open it as a pub when Enterprise sold it 2 years ago.

Yes but you cant just leave it as an empty building which is slowly deteriorating for ever.Surely if it was viable to invest in it and turn it into a decent pub it would have been done by now.Something has to change.

It's been deteriorating because the current owner has deliberately been encouraging it - stripping out the fittings and smashing a window (which was amateurish, because it was so clearly done from the inside).

The pub was never any good because it was owned by Enterprise Inns - the worst of the PubCos.  With a decent brewery behind it, it could rival the Rising Sun.

And the plan is definitely to demolish it by the way.  This big eyesore is planned for its place:

  3. Do you think that it's actually quicker to fly London to Leeds than it is to get the train? :hihi:

No. But despite what Londoners think, 99.99% of the world don't start their journey from there.

    ---------- Post added 02-11-2018 at 09:30 ----------

I assume that Channel Four News will continue to use studio facilities in London for their daily news programme.

Even This Morning had to eventually relocate to London because they couldn't get guests to travel to Liverpool.

Liverpool has a similar lack of transport connections as Sheffield (though it does obviously have an airport).

In contrast BBC News and Sport works fine from the better connected Manchester. BBC Breakfast, Match of the Day etc. get their guests in fine.

  4. Sheffield was on the long list but didn't make the short list. There was some hope that Sheffield would get to host one of the creative hubs but those have gone to Bristol and Glasgow, so it looks like there might have been a decision made based on geographical spread, rather than having a hub close to the HQ. Suggesting that the decision has owt to do with HS2 and the airport is likely hobby horsing. Doubtless every other decision that doesn't go in Sheffield's favour in future will be attributed to those by some people.

Business needs transport infrastructure. That and a skilled workforce are the only two factors.

Do you really think a guest coming onto channel 4 news is going to fly into Manchester, then get the 60-90 minute chugger over to Sheffield, for the sake of a 5 minute interview? Or get the slow diesel train up from London and back - a 5 hour round trip?

  5. How could this have possibly happened?

There meat is lovely and the shops are always full.

If these kinds of local shops go out of business then we will have no choice but to buy our food from big supermarkets

A company with 600 staff is not a small business/local shop by any definition.

Much better to support the genuine independents around.

  6. I don’t know I’m not an expert on autism and its impact are you?

Did you know his 'autism' is self-diagnosed?...

His cerebral palsy is legit, but that's a physical impairment.

Jared is just a nasty piece of work. He gives disabled people a bad name by constantly citing it as an excuse for his simple bad behaviour.

  7. Jared is in the news again, saying he has only been to PMQT once because 'the shouting' affects his autism.

Oh dear. Could it instead be because he's a lazy good-for-nothing feckless blob who has achieved the square root of nothing as an MP?

Someone whose previous job was DJ-ing at a rock bar has said "loud noises mean I cannot cope"

    :hihi:

  8. I've seen flats go for more on homes under the hammer ,got to feel sorry for the ordinary working people down there, rents of £1200 per month are common.

You pay that for a standard 3 bed in S10. £2000-£2500 is more London

The usual saying is that London prices per week are what the rest of the country would pay per month

  9. They are actually all over the place, although most are now flats

For instance Hillsborough way there's Burrowlee House just off the park, theres the one on the left as you head down Dykes Hall Road, and Loxley House on Ben Lane. The old asylum at Middlewood is stunning too.

There's also the impressive Queens Tower up Park Grange Road in Norfolk Park

  10. I thought this was a great place, but always felt the location was a problem. It's kind of hemmed in by major roads and no one really lives round there, nor is there a cluster of other places to bring people over.

If it had been located on say Division Street, it was 10 times the pub that Brewdog will ever be

  11. Hang on, an autistic, celerabal palsy sufferer was a nightclub bouncer, I’m not desputing what you posted, but can you please elaborate?

He worked on the door and DJ-ed at West Street Live for years.

Most of his reputation for misogyny and homophobia come from his widely-observed behaviour in that role, not his internet hate spiel.

This isn't a slur on WSL by the way - which (in my opinion) is otherwise a nice family business

Here's a news story about it anyway: https://www.shefnews.co.uk/2017/10/31/sophie-evans-west-street-live-knew-what-jared-o-mara-was-like/

  12. Who are these people ?

Have you/they ever met Jared ?

I've known him fairly well over the years. He's all the bad things people say about him and worse.

He's a nasty nightclub bouncer who has fluked his way into a cushty job he can't get sacked from for 5 years, effectively thieving our taxes.

  13. No it wasn’t.

Have you read it? It was like a 7 year old doing a talk to their class

"I'm from Sheffield. Kyle Walker, you know the good footballer, is from my constituency (actually he's not, he's from Sharrow, which isn't in Hallam). We also have blades and owls. And even some brown people too, though they are usually only rich ones like doctors and university lecturers"

  14. Speaker of the House didn't think so. Is he an idiot for commending the 'incoherent ramblings of an idiot'?

He praised it for being short. Well-educated MPs usually use it as an excuse for a bit of grandstanding and showcasing of their eloquent rhetoric

  15. "I'm delighted today to finally be able to make my maiden speech as the MP for the constituency where I grew up, Sheffield Hallam.

"I was elected a year ago as Hallam's first Labour MP but due to mistakes I made when I was young, and for which I am truly sorry and hurt a lot of people, I've been unable to speak in the House with confidence until now and I currently speak in the capacity of an independent.

"In addition to this, I am also Parliament's very first autistic MP as well as having cerebral palsy and other disabilities. This is something which fills me with immense pride and it is an honour for me to have the chance to represent our country's disabled people in addition to serving my constituents.

Mr O'Mara praised his Liberal Democrat predecessor Sir Nick Clegg for his 'admirable and steadfast belief in the value of our membership in the European Union' and commitment to multiculturalism, noting he shared both of these.

He added: "I may, of course, be biased but Sheffield Hallam is quite possibly one of the most beautiful and greenest constituencies in the country."

The Independent MP also praised the sports stars which have emerged from his constituency, including 'the best right-back in football' Kyle Walker.

He offered the warm tribute to the England star 'even though I am an Owl and he is a Blade' - in recognition of his support for Sheffield Wednesday and Walker's for Sheffield United.

He said Sheffield Hallam 'gets unfairly typecast as one of the least diverse and most wealthy' constitutencies in the north but said he'd had the 'privilege of meeting people from all walks of life' since being elected.

Mr O'Mara, 36, said: "Hallam is the epitome of multiculturalism as is the city of Sheffield as a whole and I am very proud to call it home."

He also spoke of what can be learned from the teachings of Jesus, although said he considers himself "a man of science".

Mr O'Mara said: "He was a man who forgave those who truly repented and he shares my belief that our utmost human priority should be helping those who are most disadvantaged and vulnerable amongst us."

The Sheffield Hallam MP concluded his remarks by asking his constituents, all political parties and everyone in the country to join him in "prioritising these principles".

He added: "I promise that I will do my utmost to help all those in need of help within my constituency and to champion the cause of equality.

"When I return to Parliament in September I shall do so with renewed vigour and an unwavering commitment to social justice and look forward to being the best MP that I can possibly be."

House of Commons speaker John Bercow congratulated Mr O'Mara for his 'commendably succinct' and wished him well.[/i]

    Incoherent ramblings of an idiot

  16. According to Wikipedia Cerebral Palsy and Autism spectrum disorder.

Cerebral Palsy is a physical disability. It's as much a learning disability as being in a wheelchair is

And most of the population are on the autistic spectrum, that's why it's called a spectrum. A sizable proportion of them are high functioning - basically almost every university lecturer and elite scientist in the country fall under that diagnosis.

Disability doesn't make you a bad person. He's sending out a really offensive message blaming being nasty on disability.
