  1. Well that puts a different aspect on it
  2. No doubt may be wrong. It looks as though someone has drawn the back ground. Just saying
  3. Wow bassett one. Forgot about the "stretch legs" game using a knife, Had some good fun playing that game with my friends on Deerlands Ave. Played on the grass verges . Didn't you throw the knife in the centre of your opponents legs to seal a win? Them were the days.
  4. Saw them years ago at a Pontins Holiday Camp. They were on stage the night of my daughters 7th birthday. I took her back stage to see if they wold give here their autographs. They both ignored us and walked away with the man who was the entertainment manager. Complete ignorance.
  5. My first job was in a fishmongers, up the gennal Firth Park. Going home on the bus (No 1) afterwards didn't get many people wanting to sit near me. Don't know why . Owner used to put bits of money in places, to see if I would take it, never did take any. At the end of the day the owner would cash up the takings. Put the money in a money bag. Lift a trap door that was in the room at the back of the shop go down the steps into the cellar and put the money bag somewhere, I was told never to go down into the cellar, not very trusting was the owner. When my Grandfather died, I was told that I could not go to the funeral, because it was on a Friday and Friday was the busiest day. I worked until the Thursday before the funeral walked out at the end of the day and (without telling them) didn't go back. I went to the funeral. Not nice people to work for.
  6. . This has nothing to do with the topic. As stated before I went to Southey Green Sec Mod. Sat in front of me was a girl ( not giving name). One day sat listening to our boring teacher Mrs Rowley. I had a temptation to undo the bra of the girl sat in front of me, as you could see the clip under her shirt. Anyway the temptation got too great. I leant forward and with a twist of the bra clip the bra undid, the girl screamed out. She told Mrs Rowley why she had screamed. I was hurried up to the Headmaster, where I received six strokes of the cane. I can still feel the pain now. So if anyone is ever tempted to do something. Think very very hard of the consequences.
  7. Just been through all 36 pages of this topic. I went to Southey Green Secondary Modern 1957 to 1961. No one who went to my school has mentioned any of the teachers. Not surprised really.
  8. Once took my then girlfriend (now wife of 53 years) to the Kinema. When I got up to leave at the end I tore my trousers on a spring that had come through the seat. Never went again.
  9. Anyone remember SYD Laundry on Bellhouse road 1961/2. I worked in the docking area, loading the packs of laundry into different areas
  10. I worked there 1962 to 64. It was run like a labour camp. Machines were operated by coloured people. Who were too frightened to say anything to the bosses. The machines were started bang on time every morning. Even if the lads who took the clay bricks off and loaded the barrows up was not at the machine. They just let the bricks fall on the floor and pile up. Then when the lad got to the machine he had to clear away the mess and take the bricks off the machine at the same time. It was the same at the break times and end of the day the machines stopped at the exact time you were supposed to clock out. So if the day started at 8.00am the machines started at 8.00 and if the shift finished at 5.00pm the machines were stopped at that time. There was no canteen. You had to eat your snack sitting anywhere you found to sit. Believe me it was dirty. dusty and unhealthy. In the winter we used to gather in the kilns where it was warm. Tramps used to go in the kilns at night time because it was warm. I finished up barrowing the coal from outside into the top of the kilns. Where the kiln fires were controlled. Had to make sure there was enough coal for each of the fired kilns until the next morning. The weekend was the worst time because you had to make sure there was enough coal delivered to cover until you started Monday morning. Couple of lads I went to school with worked there the same time. Alan Lee and Terence Fontana.
  11. Bad news about my old friend Johnney Whelan. Passed away around 7 weeks ago. He worked in the control room.
  12. Hi Purple. Definitely wasn't a cornfield in 1976. I 'm almost sure it was a cornfield up to about me leaving Lindsay Road School in 1957.
  13. lived in Deerlands Ave from being born in1946 to getting married in 1966. When I was young the area now known as Parson Cross park was a cornfield. My friends and I used to love it when the hay had been cut. We used to have lots of fun. Then it was changed into a park. Can anyone remember when the field was changed to a park?. I'm sure it was still a cornfield when I attended Lindsay Road school. From nursery to leaving in 1957, to go to Southey Green school
  14. Let them rot in hell. That's what I say. UK was not good enough for them. Now they want pity.
  15. Keep the ISIS brides out of the UK. They knew what they were doing. I have no sympathy for them or any others who left to be with ISIS
  16. I moved from Sheffield. Over the pennines to Blackpool in 1984. Go back visiting relatives and friends now and then. Definitely not the same. I used to live on Deerlands Ave. My old house and most around have been demolished. Don't know what's going to replace them. Thatcher and her motley crew ruined Sheffield and other areas.
  17. Hiya John. Didn't emigrate. Just moved across the Pennines to Blackpool that was 1984. We are both well, now in our 70s but doing OK. Both daughters Carron and Emma are married. We have six grandchildren. oldest 25 youngest 2. So we are kept very busy. Hope all is well with you and your family. Give our best wishes to both your Aunties, Lynne and Dot if you see them.
  18. Ace Waste . I worked at UC in the packing then nuclear shop. Knew your dad. We used to live next door to Hughie's mother and father in law Lillie and Les Daubney. Knew his wife Janet who sadly died. Give him our best wishes. Our names are Eddie and Anita. He will know who we are.
  19. Yes I remember the high wall. Me and my cousin Jacqueline (she lived in Wensley Street) used to play in the yard a lot. Weren't the toilets at the top of yard, opposite the back door?
  20. Just been on Google street view. There is a massive mosque opposite to where my grandad and you lived. That was street view 2017. Area where the house was is just trees. Street lamp still there. Not original one obviously.
  21. Next time I am in Sheffield, might go and take a look at Botham Street. Just to reminisce a bit. Crazy eh.
  22. Yeah he died in hospital (royal infirmary) of pneumonia. Amazing that sometime in the pass we knew each other. Your name not Robert or Steven is it? Have a good New Year.
  23. That was my grandad Joshua William Fothergill. I am his grandson Edward. So the couple who lived there was your mom and dad. Didn't see much of them but they were very nice. Can't remember them having a son. But obviously must have had. I think they lived in the front room, not sure. Small world eh
  24. hi Bothamlad. Unbelievable. My Grannie and Grandad lived in that house. They moved to Botham Street from Deerlands Ave in the early 50s. I and my cousin, who used to live in Wensley Street prefabs, used to visit them all the time. My Grannie passed in 1958. My Grandad passed in 1961. There was a couple who used to lodge there. The house has long gone now, just waste land last time I saw.
