  1. Following my last input. I have had a rethink. Mr Green was the woodwork teacher. I am still unsure about the metalwork teacher.
  2. I was at southey 1958 - 1961. Last teacher was Mrs Rawley 4B. Mr gower took woodwork. Metal work teacher was Mr Cawthorne I think
  3. Oh what memories. Saturday matinee at the Capitol (Essoldo) Barnsley Road with friends . We would come out of the pictures, then run down the spare ground towards Deerlands Ave. Hitting the side of our legs as if we were horses, shooting each other with our fingers. Falling down as though we had been shot. Friday nights it was either Capitol or Paragon (Firth Park) depending on the film they were showing. All dressed up looking smart just in case you met a girl. Oh what memories.
  4. I worked at Union Carbide (British Acheson's) late 80s . Never worked anywhere else where there was a canteen like the one at UC. Food was always fresh and cooked well. Lady in the booth taking the money was a bit surley. She didn't take any back chat. Just by looking at her you knew not to say anything out of the ordinary.
  5. My wife says her father worked there around 1957 his name was Frank. He lived on Rider Road off Rudyard Road, opposite the then Hillsborough baths.
  6. Hi Ken. You are going back a few year drinking at the Hillsborough Inn. My wifes father used to work behing the bar there. The door/gate to the back of the inn is/was still there. Left Sheffield in 1985. so dont know if the door/gate is still there.
  7. Black Hill or proper name Holgate Cres. was a small hill that ran betwwen 194 and 196 Deerlands ave. It was built by Italian POWs, so I was told. the road was black tarmac so as I was always told. Hence the name black Hill. Other theories were that there was no street lights all the way down hence also being called Black Hill becuase when it was dark believe me it was black.
  8. Lived on Deerlands from 1946 until getting married in 1966. Lived at the top Holgate (Black hill). Almost oppisite park gates. Had some great times with great friends. Unfortunately the house I lived in (among with loads of other houses) has been demolished. Actually drove down Deerlands today whilst on a weekend visit. Live in Blackpool now
  9. My first alcholic drink was in The Huntsman corner of Deerlands and Barnsley road. I don't live in Sheffield now, but I think the huntsman is no longer there.
  10. Just cannot understand why we picked my mother and new born brother up from there
  11. Does anyone remember the bombed church on Burngreave Road? On the opposite side was a large building. In 1953 I remember my father and I picked my mother and new born brother up from that building. I would like to know if anyone knows what the building was, and why my Mother would have been there.
  12. I used to have a motorbike and sidecar. Parking light attached straight to the battery
  13. My best memory is playning with my friends in the cornfield when I lived on Deerlands Ave we lived opposite the now park entrance.. Before they turned it into a park. Used to have some great fun. Especially when the corn had cut. We pile all the cut corn into massive piles and dive into it. Them were the days.
  14. My Grandparents lived at the bottom of Botham Street number 4
  15. Hi cuttsie I used to go to Lindsey youth club roundabout 1958 -1961
  16. Hi Ken Broclehurs. My name is Eddie. Sorry to learn about your dad. Whilst at Wraggs I took over the payments on a Matchless 500 motor bike and sidecar from a lad who worked there. One morning I drove up Bradfield Road I was waiting at the traffic lights. Just as the lights turned to amber someone sat on the pillion seat and tapped me on the head. When I looked around it was your dad. If he had done it a couple of seconds later, he would have been sat on his backside in the middle of the road. Because I was just about to move off. I also took your dad home (just off Herries Road) on a few occasions after working overtime. Titch was very well liked at Wraggs. Everyone including myself and my mate Brian got on with him from the start. He got on well with everyone. I can promise you no-one had a bad name for titch. I now live in Blackpool. We left Sheffield in 1984 and bought a guest house. But I am now76 and been retired a few years.
  17. I worked with Ken (titch as we used to call him) he was the first person I worked with when I first started at Thos Wraggs. We worked in a crew of three. Ken, myself and my friend Brian (Brian and I started at the same time). He was good at bowls. But I once beat him. We used to have a works competition. If a new player was picked to play against one of the works team, they had to forfeit so many points. Ken forfeited 6 points. I beat him by 7 points. Titch was also a good loser. When we worked over-time we (Ticth Brian and myself) would sometimes call in at the Yew Tree Inn and have a couple of games of snooker. Plus, a couple of pints. Titch also liked his beer.
  18. M y wife was brought up in Rider Road Hillsborough 1947-1966
  19. I used to work at Thos. Wraggs. 1966 till around 1976. We raised a lot of money and put a load of fish in the dam.
  20. Had a cousin who lived in Occupation Lane. I'm sure they lived 8/9 houses down from the main road. Their name was Sheldrick.
  21. I used to go out with Sandra Bagshaw. She lived on Daffodil Road, what was known as the flower estate
  22. I sat near the window overlooking the playground. Needless to say my concentration wavered a bit when the girls were doing PE. Happy days
