Hi Golferjan. My Aunt and Uncles name was Gabbitas. I used to go there a lot. At one stage I used to live with them whilst my mom was in hospital. The children and me were like brother and sister. My Aunt and Uncle were always my second mom and dad.

Back in the 50s/60s there was always a fair over somewhere near Wheata Road. Cannot remember whereabouts the fair was. We used to walk from Deerlands Ave then make our way up Colley Cres. We had had great fun. Going on the waltzer. They always played great music. Always plenty of girls to chat up. Got some great memories

I worked at SBC Rutland Road. Was there 1962 to 64

The brickyard belonged to the SBC. Sheffield Brick Company. There were 2 more. One on Rutland Road, (where I worked) and the other was on Penistone Road near the railway bridge.

William30. You would have lived opposite the Catells. Gwen lived there with her mother. Gwen was friends with my sister. Did the Hawkesworths live in the house at the side of the 8foot. If they are the same we used to call the younger brother Hawkeye. Deerlands looks a lot different now. The house where I lived has been pulled down along with a lot of others. We lived three doors up from Blackhill.

I lived opposite the Simmonites on Deerlands Ave. Names Pauline Lillian and Joyce. Lillians husband worked at Sheffield Brick company Rutland Road in the quarry. He had a terrible accident crippling him for life. I worked at SBC at the same time. William30 do you remember my late sister Yvonne Fothergill? We lived at 200 Deerlands Ave. Me and my friends were friendly with Bobby Knutt ( not his real name )

Hi Jacko. Long time since I wrote in here. Just found an old picture of George Seniors during being demolished. I worked as a blacksmith striker in the lean-to building. Dont know how to put a picture in here. If you are interested I could send it to your email.

Hi Loneranger (Brian) Do you remember the games we used to play on Deerlands Ave. Hide and Seek tag, playing on the fields back of my house. We used to set up our own running races in the park. Brings back some great memories. Thinking of our friends. Bob Jennings, David (sadly passed) Brian and Dennis Farrell, Thompson girls, Eunice Jennings, Diane Hill. My late brother Dion, Georgie Parkin Gee I could go on and on.

Sure do Brian. Remember when we all used to go to the farm, potato picking in Dungworth where your brother worked. What did we use to get 7 shillings and sixpence. Back breaking. On our way home we would buy fire works from Hillsborough corner. Them were the days.

Hiya Bob. Eddie here from Blackpool how are you and Brenda? I went to Southey Green School in 1957 from Lindsey Road. You would have been in your last year. The science teacher was Mr Cooper. Everyone called him Boris, not to his face though. He had a skeleton in the cupboard. You were right he frightened everyone.

Thank you gene. My grandfather was born in 1885. According to the 1911 census he was 29. It states that he was the adopted son of the lady he, his wife and children was living with. Maybe never going to find out how it came about.

Does anyone know of any method one could get infomation regarding UK adoptions from the late 1800s?

Hi again Ernie. Do you remember my late dad Walt Fothergill? He walked out on his family when I was 9yrs old in 1955. He worked at SUT until his death in 1975. at one time he was one of SUT's top drivers. Went abroad a lot.

My late sister Yvonne was baptised in Sheffield Cathedral. She was born 1939. At the time my parents lived in Deerlands Ave. Parson Cross. Never got to know why she was baptised there. I was born 1946 and baptised at St Celia's.

I was born and raised in Deerlands ave. Three houses up from Holgate Cres almost opposite the park. We always called it blackhill. According to the older adults, the hill up to Deerlands Ave was built by prisoner of war personnel. We the youngs ones were always told it got named blackhill because it was built with pitch and tarmac that made the hill black. When I was young around 6, 7 or 8 yrs old the field now Parson Cross was a massive cornfield. We used to have to great fun when the fields were cut. I never heard the park called blackhill park.

I remember Alf very well. I used to live on Deerlands. We were regular customers of his. It was better than having to walk up to Lindsey shops. Those were the days.

I left Lindsey Road School in 1957 to go to Southey Green. left in 1962. Teachers I remember are: Mr (pop) Kay. Mr Cooper (Boris . Science) Miss Marshall (Art. My first teacher at Southey). Mrs Carr ( History I think), Miss Waight (music) Mr Hedley (sport) Mr Cawthorne (metal work) Mr Green (woodwork) cannot remember teachers name who taught domestic science to girls. But she was tall and had very sharp features. Cannot recall Mr Bishop but name rings a bell. Mrs Rowley (my last teacher 4B). During my last year there I was the milk monitor.

I knew Brian Chisell well .We were best mates living on Deerlands. I lived at 200 Deerlands Ave. Brian married my wife's friend Carol Beardhall, but they divorced. Brian and I both worked together at Thos. Wraggs, Loxley

Where I went to school Southey Green ( 1957-61) I found the bullies always hung around together. On their own they were sh8t. What did the school do about it F all. In fact they made a couple of the bullies prefects. hows taht for punishment. Make them prefects a license to bully. Good old Southey Green

Dion had two children boy and girl. His wife came back to Blackpool with the children. Dion stayed in Canada. They divorced. He got married again. Dion worked on the production line at Ford Motor Company up until he passed away with cancer. He played the guitar (self taught) and wrote a few songs, they were never published. I have all his songs and music. Although he wasn't a brilliant singer he got by.

Hi JEB1 Dion Fothergill you mentioned was my brother (My name is Edward Fothergill) Unfortunately Dion passed away in Canada in 2000. We used to live in Deerlands Ave. Dion moved to Blackpool with mum around 1970 he met and married a girl from Blackpool. They moved to Canada around 74/75. I left southey Green in 1961. My teacher was Mrs Rowley
