  5. Hi lovelace. I left Lindsay in 1957. Stuart left the same time. He went to Firth Park grammar. I used to live three houses up from the Black Hill. Most of the houses from black hill up to Adlington have been pulled down. when it snowed we used to have great fun sledging down Black Hill.
  6. Hiya lovelace. I went to Lindsay Road. Nursery through to 4th year juniors left to go to Southey Green. You mentioned Peter Varley. His brother Stuart and I were big mates. Just looking at a picture of the old school buildings. Great School great times.
  7. I was at the Fiesta when the Walker Brothers appeared. Believe me it was the worst show I have ever sat through. The first half was passable. The second half was diabolical. One of them came on to the stage and started talking. Rambling on about nothing, you could tell by the way he talked and acted that he was high on something. It didn't get any better when they started singing. They all must have took something during the interval. Everyone around us was saying they were drugged up.
  8. I can remember the shop was always busy. All the customers were very nice and friendly. They used to put the days takings down some steps in the back room. You lifted a trap door it was like a cellar. I was told never to go down there, either on my own or with anyone else. They never trusted anyone. The old man was the worst out of all of them.
  9. I left school in 1961( Southey Green). My first job was at Wild's fishmongers Firth Park. Right hand side up the gennil (Quadrent). They used to leave money around, to see if I would pick it up and hand it in or keep it. I always handed it in. Whilst there my granddad died. His funeral was held on a Friday. When i asked if I could take the day off to attend his funeral, they said no, because Friday was their busiest day. I left. They were not good people to work for. Always remember catching the bus number 1 outside the Paragon. No one ever sat near me because I stunk of fish.
  10. I lived on Deerlands Ave Parson Cross. Always remember the rag man who used to come round with his horse and cart. Think the rag man was called Jack. Could never work out what he used to shout. He would give you a balloon, or a gold fish, a plate, or a punny (donkey) stone for cleaning steps, in exchange for a few rags.
  11. I worked at Seniors. Ponds Forge in 1963. I worked as blacksmith striker. Blacksmith was Harry Hoole

  13. I went to Lindsay Youth club late 50s early 60s. Was a great place.
  14. I lived on Deerlands Ave more or less opposite park gates. We were always building dens on the back field. Had some great fun. Them were the days. The kids today don't know what its like to play out all day with friends. Doing the things we used to get up to. They don't know what they are missing.
  15. Spray all the plant with warm soapy water
  16. I lived top of blackhill 1946_1966. Did you live right hand or left hand of 8foot. There were two brothers who lived in the house next to 8foot (right hand side). Cannot remember their name. Did you live opposite the Cartels?
  17. Hi Arnie Grey. we used to live next door to your Aunt Connie. Remember her garden was always looking nice with lots of roses. She was a lovely person always smiling and chattie. My name is Anita. Our surname was Chapman. We recently found out that my husbands mom was born at No.12 Rider Road in 1912.
  18. We had a caravan on the Elms site middle of the 70s to early 80s. We, Fothergills, bought ours after our friends, Whelans and Cantors bought theirs. Used to go there from Sheffield, where we lived then, every Friday after work and stayed until Sunday. Then through the summer we spent more time there. We would go around to the Little London site each time we were there had some good nights. The owner of the London site tried to persuade us to move our caravans on to his site. The elms owner and the Little London owner didn't like each other. Had some great times there caught some decent fish.
  19. I lived in Deerlands Ave from 1946 to 1966. At first the park was all corn fields. I never heard of a swimming pool being built. We used to go to Longley Park swimming pool.
  20. Hiya Brian how are you? It's your old friend Eddie here.
  21. Sorry for your loss. Was/Is your moms name Margaret by any chance
  22. Yeah, I remember the V sign. Was it white and big?. I'm sure Alan had a friend who lived up the steps. Seem to remember going to someone's house up there.
  23. Hi again. Yes they lived at number 12. Aunt Phyllis always wore a bun in her hair. Her hair was very long, reached down to her backside. My Aunt and Uncle Arthur had a few kids. Reginald, Harold, Barbara, Laura, Malcolm, Barry, Peter, Phyllis and Alan. Then me, who stayed with them, as my mom was always in and out of hospital. Don't know how we all managed it in that small house. Alan and me used to play football and cricket on the waste ground at the top of Rawson Street. Got some great memories of way back then.
