Woodseats Road Smithywood Road area
brian@bnevin replied to Smithy Blade's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
I remember going in Smithywood club,in the 60's,and they had an owl on the stage. If Wednesday had won both its eyes were lit up,if they had drawn, one was lit and if they lost switched off.The days of The playboys and Joe Cocker etc. -
Does anyone know of pub,in Sheffield, with a function room that has a decent size car park suitable for a school reunion.Somewhere that will put on a buffet on and preferably sell real ale.

I left in 1959 and still see my pals from my time there. Dave Bellwood,Graham Douthwaite,Pete Collis,Johnny Langston and Stuart Webber. We all left with few GCE's,except Stuart, who went into the 6th form.We all finished up with good jobs and have all now retired. Nobody has mentioned Icky Bown, the best teacher of the lot.We had plenty of slipper from him but it didn't do us any harm.Thats whats up with society today. No discipline!!!

You are dead right about Bunny.A pal of mine who lives at Stocksbridge still sees him knocking about. The thing I remember about him he had 'OMO ADDS BRIGHTNESS',an advertising slogan at that time, tattooed on his arm. -
Don't know how true it is,but I've heard, from a good scource, that United are doing away with their reserves. It seems as though they have got rid of most of the reserve team and all the older Academy players.Doesn't bode well for next season. How do players get match fit and where do they get players from? It's funny theres been nothing in the Star about this, seems a bit under handed to me !

Hi Cynthia, Eddie Langley was the scourge of us fitters. We would go into the Market for our breakfast, and every so often he would raid it,if you were caught you were up before Seldon, the boss. There were six Snr Reps,Eddie Langley,Ken Race,Arnold Boyd,Roy Palfreyman and two others who I can't remember.Anyone help? The clerks on our district,No.4,Were Dick Callaghan and Connie Price. During his apprenticeship Cocker worked as my lad,as did Barry Brown. When I went to Rotherham I worked for Ken Race again. I remember David Blunkett working on the third floor as an audio typist,I wonder what he went on to do!!! -
When I first got married we had an outside loo,but we had a poe to use at night when it was cold.Six years later we bought a new house at Dronfield. The last thing I did as the removals van left was toss that bloody poe onto the bombsite on the other side of the road!

Plasma or LCD and where to buy in Sheffield?
brian@bnevin replied to SuzXxX's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I bought mine at Currys at Drakehouse.I went on their site on the internet, but without seeing them in real life, its a bit confusing.I got LCD as they tell me they are more reliable.Get some prices off the internet and they'll match them in the shop. -

You sat Littsies quiet now,I'm not surprised I'm 65 and he's the same age.Age catches up with everyone.I once saw him take on the market lads at Castleton ,he didn't win but put up a good scrap.Oh happy days!!!!
