  1. Does anyone know of any carol services in the S1 or S2 area in the days leading up to xmas?
  2. Yes I have to admit I thought they were cranks when they told me they were taking 'invisible people' home with them! But it worked is all I'm saying and so I have no complaints.
  3. forgot to say the second time they took a housekeeper and a selection of children...so no monks or anything peculiar just ordinary folk. The housekeeper apparently had a big bunch of keys and was in the attic. After I told people about this two people who'd stayed in my attic before independently reported sensing and hearing her. They didn't tell me because they didn't want to frighten me! I'm generally not a believer of such stuff but I couldn't argue with the experience in my house.
  4. Hi Thanks for replying. I'm not sure that was the last one as my father heard about them on radio Sheffield in 1996 talking about the stocksbridge bypass. I contacted them about a 'purple lady' who was frightening my daughter in her nursery. They came and took her away and I have to say I was completely sceptical initially but my daughter who was about 18 months old told me that the lady had gone. They had to come back though the following week because of the sounds of running along the landing and doors banging that everyone witnessed and scared the hell out of me. They sorted that too and told me the 'purple lady' had been a nanny. She was apparently thinking she was looking after my daughter. It took me a while but I later managed to find this woman in the 1841 records from the name I was given. I still live in the same house and have no further problems. I can't remember the name of the tall man who wrote an account of it for me but seem to think he was an inspector for mainline and lived with a woman I also met in a flat on Arbourthorne. Sadly I no longer have the account he wrote as it went in a burglary.
  5. Does anyone know what happened to the 'ghost busters' club that operated at Mainline buses in the early 1990s?
  6. Just got my post ...the first for days (S2). Postman Craig was cheery as usual and said that they're all working extra hours to clear the backlog. Good ole posties.
  7. I wonder when they'll catch up with blue bin collections ?
  8. just put my teenage daughter on a very overcrowded 120 this morning. She was the last one allowed on and she texted me to tell me that a nice lady gave up her seat to her which I thought was very kind.
  9. Hi the key does unlock the car and will turn the engine over but not start it. Its a 2002 307 diesel. I will go and look through my paperwork to see if I have my code sheet. If I do where would do it for £50? The peugeot forum I found had several key related questions but non of them had been answered. Also they were not local and so unlikely to be able to point me in the direction of someone cheap locally but thanks for the suggestion.
  10. Thanks for that I didn't even know such things existed.
  11. Hi Whilst cleaning my car of snow yesterday I have somehow lost my master key. After hours of pouring hot water onto the ground, using a metal detector and checking through every item in my black bin (just in case), checking the car, house etc it still has not materialised I luckily have a second key that can be used to lock and unlock the car but it doesn't appear to be able to be either used remotely or be able to start the car. I understand that this is because it hasn't been programmed. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anyway of getting this done without costing an arm and a leg.? I searched on line and one place quoted me £200, another one £50 but only if you live in North London! The peugeot dealers on Eccy Road were unable to help because their parts department had closed at lunchtime. I'm suspecting they would be very expensive.
  12. Are the bin men not the ones who drive the gritters/ snow ploughs?
  13. This sounds like it might be an easy place to drop them off at tomorrow (if I can dig my car out). can't quite work out whereabouts that is. I thought the back of Tescos was Division St/ Devonshire Green. Anyway I'll phone the numbers you suggested i the morning. Thank you for all your kind comments. Truth is, the reward is the feeling you get knowing that you've done something to help...however small
  14. Thank you for your comments and for being so candid. Perhaps you might suggest to me the most direct way of getting these to the people who would benefit from them. A neighbour is giving me another one too so they'll be a few. Although I'm an animal lover I work in mental health and am only too aware of how people can end up destitute for no real fault of their own. I would also add that I wouldn't exclude drinkers or addicts from that. There's not many of us in the world who have never made a mistake it 's just that most of us are lucky enough to get away with it/ get second chances/ have loving family friends etc to get us through. This is only my opinion and I don't wish to start a long debate on worthiness
  15. Look I live in a house of 2 humans and 3 cats so I'm partial to both. I kind of feel that I would rather help those living on the street but if not then I could donate to cats shelter although they do seem rather big for a cat.
  16. Thanks very dull. There is no reply which maybe means it is not manned all the time.
  17. Hi everyone I've been looking through my vast airing cupboard and realise that I have more 'spare' duvets than I'm every likely to need. They're not doing any harm in there but because of all this cold weather I was wondering if any homeless charities could make use of these for street sleepers. It's always awful to think of people sleeping in doorways and dustbins but in this weather it becomes even more horrendous and dangerous. I do hope that services have managed to accommodate most people in shelters over the last few nights. Given that I can't get my car out the drive I realise that I probably can't take them anywhere until the worst of it is over. I could walk to the Salvation Army on Duke Street but have no idea whether that is manned or indeed whether anyone would want these second hand duvets.
  18. thanks mh01 for that. Can you tell me where that info came from because on the national rail live feed it says they are running on time?!
  19. Failed to get car out and so thinking I can get to work in Ashfield hopital by getting train to Worksop (northern rail) and then getting a connection to sutton Parkway. The train links for live info at the top of this sticky aren't working. I think I just heard Toby Foster say something about trains to lincoln being suspended which would scupper this plan but I can't confirm it. Anyone have a working link for the live updates?
  20. yo sushi at meadowhall offers discounts
  21. Hi What road are you on? If you live near me and like wholemeal sliced bread I could let you have some. My daughter had emergency op on sunday and is non weight bearing too so I know how disabling it can be.
  22. you must have a very small car if it is hidden by 2 feet of snow!!
  23. well perhaps it would have been more constructive to say that rather than branding most of the population as hypocrites.
  24. Hey, perhaps you could clear it up for me? Is it therefore hypocritical for Christians to have holly and ivy etc because it is not part of christianity but from an older religion? Apologies to everyone for going so off topic but it irritates me when people want to spoil other people's( particularly childrens') harmless fun and fantasy.
