I was born in the front room of the terraced house I grew up in. It had an off-shot kitchen and an attic. Both original. I remember 2 of the glass panes in the attic window were blacked out. They were remnants from the war. We were lucky enough to have a bathroom. (You had to go through the bathroom to get to the attic stairs.) There was a sink and a bath. The toilet was outside across the back yard.

I wouldnt recomend Akhbars on Meadowbank Road. Its overpriced, and I found the service really bad. Wont be going there again.

Can anyone remember the name of the pub underneath the Marples in the Square? You came out of The Marples and turned right. On the right hand side there was a door and steps going down into the pub. I cant believe ive forgotten it. I had quite a few nights in there in the 70s.
Hope you can help me.

Hello Grimesthorpe. It's getting to the time of year when we have our six monthly get togethers. Mrs. JDS has suggested a date when many of you can't get. Having read your posts and spoken to others, the following Fridays may be more suitable:Sept. 23rd. Sept. 30th.
Oct. 21st.
Nov. 11th. Nov. 18th.
For MrsJDS, Nov. !8th is the only other date she can get to, due to family commitments.
If it's not too late in the year for you, May I suggest Nov. 18th.
Please make your thoughts and opinions known as soon as possible so we can get the date set.
Thanks, Ralph.
Â
Any times ok with me.

George, Victors parents lived at 53 Skelwith Rd (bottom of the close) Mark Williamson bought the house when Mrs Peacock passed away, Barbara's maiden name was Foulds and she was the one who lived on Hawkshead, when they married they bought 81 Skelwith Rd (the one that has the extention on) they had one son Phillip about same age as me (are ya keeping up lol) Barbara passed away, I believe Victor lives abroad now, he had another brother I can't for the life of me remember his name and two sisters Janice and Susan I think their names were, know who it is now ? phewwww.Â
I remember Philip. He joined the police force if I remember correctly.
