  1. It's time common sense was taught by parents and teachers left alone to proper schooling like Maths & English. Too many useless parents use school as an excuse for their kids bad behaviour.
  2. Good luck with the re-opening, the place could be a little goldmine with the right TLC. One thing though - try to get some decent cleaners who'll keep the bogs respectable. Any plans for a quiz night? Always popular to pull punters in from a wider radius?
  3. I'm looking for an 'A' level Maths tutor for my son who needs to retake some of his A2 modules in January next year, to get from a Grade D to a C or B. I think he would benefit from some 1-1 tution - can anybody recommend a good tutor that they have used? Thanks
  4. Because I've got relation originally from Sheffield who would like to see it.
  5. I'm trying to get hold of a copy of the DVD produced last year on the Sheffield floods produced by Look North. It was on sale through Radio Sheffield but have now sold out - does anyone have one I could borrow/buy??
  6. As a matter of interest, was one of the guys in the band called Pete Eason or Easton? I'm sure he was in this band when I bought a car from him in 1984?
  7. Unfortunately not - it's gone to the laptop graveyard. I took it to a small computer shop who seemed confident it would be a simple job of replacing the power connector, but after weeks and weeks of messing around they gave in and gave me the laptop back. I then took it to Real Electronics laptop repair centre - I was very impressed with them although they conceded that it needed a new motherboard, which made it not worth repairing. They were of the opinion that the first shop messed things up, which I am inclined to believe since they faffed around so long with it, but I had no proof of any misdoings. If I had a laptop problem again I would go back to Real Electronics - they charge £25 for consultation but then knock that off the cost of repair if you have the repair done through them. They seem to know what they're doing with laptops unlike some general computer shops who either don't want to know or try and help and make things worse! Good luck......
  8. Yeh, you're probably right. I've already contacted '3' who I've got my mobile phone with, but they've recommended that I don't take mobile broadband with them as their coverage isn't all that good! I respect them for their honesty....might just get dad to pay a bit more out and get onto Sky TV + broadband. My broadband is with them and has been excellent.
  9. Probably not, but I know how frustrated I get if I need to sort out my own internet problems....if the broadband account was set up in my dad's name I doubt whether they would want to speak to me if I tried to sort it out for him! He knows nothing about computers and I reckoned a mobile broadband in my name would be easier. Just concerned about network coverage that's all.
  10. My parents (in their 70's) want to try using the internet and I need to set up a broadband connection for them. My first thoughts are that I want to avoid landline broadband because if anything goes wrong I can't imagine the problems my dad would have with the call centre trying to resolve a problem! Mobile broadband (set up in my name) sounds a lot more attractive but I'm concerned about the coverage in Sheffield 12 where they live - does anyone use mobile broadband and what's the connection like?
  11. Hi Neeeeek, the laptop is an Evesham branded laptop but suspect it has a HP 'body' - I'm not 100% sure as the laptop is still with the shop. The connector has been quite loose for a while although it was still getting power through to the battery. Whenever I use the connector now though, there is a bit of a burning smell and there is no power getting through at all. When I got the new battery recently it was already half charged so I tried it on the laptop and it powered up and everything worked OK, so I assumed it would be simple job of replacing the power connector.
  12. There's a problem with getting power through from the adapter to the battery - I suspect that the power socket needs replacing. It's a new battery so I know that's not the problem. The reason for asking for a recommendation is that I've had the laptop with one repairer for 3 weeks now and they're still no nearer getting it right - there may be something else wrong which I'm not aware of, but although I keep calling into the shop every few days they don't seem to be able to tell me what's wrong and don't seem bothered about getting the job done. I feel like asking them to call it a day and I'd rather find someone who can give better service.
  13. Can anybody give a recommendation for a local shop/business that does a decent job on laptop repairs?
  14. Baron10, my Dad's family were Binghams - did your nan live on Archdale Road?
  15. My Dad's family lived at 101 Archdale Road from the 30's and my Gran finally left there sometime around 1968 I think - her name was Doris Bingham.
