  11. I lived on Margate Drive in the prefabs. I was in the same class as Mick Martin. I remember the name Brian Goldthorpe. I think he may have had two brothers but not sure. Was his name Goldthorpe or was it Gawthorpe? Did he live at the top of the hill on Grimesthorpe Rd, on the left hand side facing down the hill?
  12. Mick Martin was the eldest of three brothers, Anthony was next and Kevin was the youngest.
  13. Can anyone tell me the name of the Chinese restaurant that was just behind Cole Brothers? I think it was on Crossburgess street. You had to go up stairs to the restaurant. I had many a good meal in there.
  14. Check out Wigfield Farm at Worsbrough. They put on a very good day for my nieces son a couple of years ago. Lots of animals to see and a lunch for the kids and not too costly
  15. I consider myself lucky to have grown up in the 60s. I got my first motorbike and used to go to the speedway every Thursday. You could park your bike in the street and never worried that it might not be there when you went back to it. I used to go up West Street on a Friday night drinking, and never saw any trouble. Bus fares were cheap. You never heard of anyone making cutbacks or companies making people redundant. Enjoyed many nights at the Esquire on Leadmill Road. Happy Times.
  16. If I remember right, they used to charge One Penny to use the lift. I too used this station to go to Cleethopes. Happy days.
  17. Welcome home Nettie. Never mind the pints, you may have to start on halves and work your way up to the pints. Have a merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year. That goes to everyone. CHEERS.
  18. What a great way of viewing the old photos without the hassle of going back through loads of threads. Cheers Ralph
  19. I got caned a couple of times, but I remember our woodwork teacher, a Mr. Hill [ BENNY ]. He would walk round the class and whack anyone at will. One day he put his cane down to show a lad how to plane wood, another lad picked up the cane, grabbed a saw and cut it into one inch pieces. I did manage to get a 78 rpm record smashed over my head by our music teacher, a Mr. Lowe [Lonnie ] Happy days at Owler Lane Sec Mod.
  20. I am nearing the end of a book called, The POTTY EDWARDS, What A Way To Get A living. It is by Michele Lockwood-Edwards. It is a really good book with some very funny stories about market life in Sheffield.
  21. Does anyone remember the name Charlie Downs from Chambers Lane. He was a friend of my father. I seem to remember he had a motorbike and sidecar.
  22. If Jessica Ennis doesn't win BBC Sports Personality of the year, there is no justice. Personality wise, no one can get near to her.
  23. I think you are right Sheila, I seem to remember the shop was called Swindell's. It was just below the junction of Hunsley Street. I think, just below the shop, there was a yard with an entrance on Grimesthorpe Road. My uncle had a business in there selling pottery.
  24. Hi davebrmm, My first bike was a Triumph Terrier, 150 cc. It came out just before the Cub. Would you believe I still have a bike, having been retired two years. I have a 1966 Bsa C15 Trials which is road registered, but I haven't been out on it for years. Once a biker always a biker. All The Best.
