  1. Sheffield based Will4Adventure is now planning the next Challenge4Charity in aid of Endeavour (Sheffield) Youth Achievement Foundation: this will be an (insane) 50 mile sponsored walk through the Peak District National Park. Wherever you stop – we’ll pick you up – how far will you go? Challenge4Charity 2013 is a continuous sponsored walk - with no opportunities for sleeping, or for separate team members to walk separate stages - it is purely a case of walk … as far as your legs will take you! With regular marshals and support drivers you have the option to walk as far as you can up to the maximum of 50 miles inside 24 hours. To that end, pick up points will be located at the 10 mile point, the 15 mile point, and so on through the route. After the half way point there is more flexibility to pick people up more frequently if need be. More details can be found at: http://www.will4adventure.com/challenge4charity.shtml See you on the 23rd March! Will

Challenge4Charity 2012 is a continuous sponsored walk - with no opportunities for sleeping, or for separate team members to walk separate stages - it is purely a case of walk … as far as your legs will take you! With regular marshals and support drivers you have the option to walk as far as you can up to the maximum of 50 miles inside 24 hours. To that end, pick up points will be located at the 10 mile point, the 15 mile point, and then at two and three mile intervals thereafter until the half way point. After 25 miles, walkers will continue in small teams and be supported by a vehicle which will meet them at one and two mile intervals. More details can be found here and this is the registration form. We need walkers, marshals or for people to just go to the page and spread the word through Facebook, Twitter ... etc. See you on the 31st March! Will
  3. So long as people are responsible there's absolutely nothing wrong with wild camping and everything right about it. There is a code to wild camping in England and Wales though. Broadly it is as follows: * The pitch must be out of view of any road * You must erect your tent last thing and strike camp first thing * Where you camp should be at least 600m above sea level (hence nowhere in the Peak District - but this is a code and not a set of rules) * You can not light a fire (for many good reasons) * You must not leave any litter (including your loo paper!) * And on that note – all ablutions need to be done in a hole and at least 30m down hill of any water source Get out there and enjoy!

  5. We are a Sheffield based outdoor company teaching outdoors skills for the hill and the crag - but in particular we run Outdoor First Aid courses. Also it might be worth noting we lead 6 free walking weekends in the Peak District each year and also run Challenge4Charity - a voluntary organised and not for profit sponsored walk - covering (up to) 50 miles inside one day. A bit insane - but amazingly good fun.
  6. We're doing something similar - have hired the rotary centre in castleton for the weekend and hazels catering are doing a hog roast for us. We're supplying our own alcohol too so keeping the costs down.
  7. I have a single friend see - (not me) - who is coming up to Sheffield one Friday soon - looking for a good night on the tiles. Since we're 30 plus (ok ... 35 plus) we require bucket loads of cheese - 70's, 80's, 90's music etc - but less students and their ilk (ie under 21's) since we don't want to look like the aged farts we are. Options considered so far are Bubblegum at Gatecrasher 1, Le Freak at Cubanas or Royale at the Leadmill (but probably not this one since it shuts at 12 - and we're not that crap). Thoughts please? 9. I agree with Chairboy - Ken Drabble runs Meersbrook Motor Co. - really good little outfit - honest and totally trustworthy. Have been using Ken for about 10 years now.
  10. What a shame that a hardworking teacher who gives up his spare time for the students of his school should be treated in this way. I was a teacher once, and I too used to volunteer my time taking students away on weekends - and this is no likely undertaking I can assure you. Without a doubt this is an unfortunate turn of events for this teacher and arguably he was wrong to allow these students to drink alcohol in a pub. But what are his choices? It is also arguable that he could have kept them with him at the campsite. And, in my experience it is easy to imagine also that these same children would have been drinking alcohol anyway in the privacy of their tents. Getting any such behaviour into the open and into a controlled environment must surely be considered to be a managing an inevitable situation positively: far better than naively pretending children don't drink and won't drink, if you ask me. So what now? Well I hope that this teacher won't be brow beaten by the culture of blame that is so prevalent in today's society. I hope instead he has the strength to pick himself up and continues to volunteer what precious spare time he has to help the youth of today's society. Chances are though, like so many teachers before him, he will understandably call it a day... and I don't see anyone else in the queue to take his place. Well gee, thanks, "mum Sharon Marsden". 11. I have a small group of novice climbers coming to the Peaks this weekend (6th/7th May) and to make things slicker I could do with an assistant. There will be some teaching involved - so will make for excellent experience - plus they're a good bunch. Happy to make a contribution to expenses etc. Email me if you think we can help each other.
