  1. That day for West Ham, Noel Dwyer was stand in goalkeeper for Scotland international Laurie Leslie. Owls scorers were Fantham 2, Finney, 2 Wilkinson, Craig , Ellis. The result as SP says knocked West Ham off top spot into third while the Owls moved up to second behind Spurs. Good times.
  2. The players which I selected I had seen them play many times and imo worthy of a place in the line up. There is no doubt if I had seen Dooley, Hagan and Jefferies they would have been considered for selection. Not easy being a manager is it.
  3. My team would look like this having all represented their country but not for our local clubs at the time. In a 2-3-5 formation Ron Springett Mel Sterland Graham Shaw Des Walker Peter Swan Emlyn Hughes John Sheridan Tony Currie Jimmy Johnstone David Hirst Chris Waddle
  4. Ron Springett signed in March 1958 , my first game was 7 th April and i am certain Mike Pinner played in goal losing 2-1 against Burnley . so it would have been one of Ron,s first games versus the blades.
  5. Hi Runningman , i can remember the score going up on the leppings lane scoreboard when Billy Russell got the hattrick, and all the talk about the blades playing in Blackpool colours.. Y ou really jogged my memory there.
  6. I can relate to a few of them good times.
  7. I looked at that myself Padders , only time i remember playing more that twice in a cuptie is against the Arsenal
  8. I think the game you are thinking of is in 1988 drew 1-1 at Goodison Park and lost the replay 0-5 someone called Lineker scored four, still don,t like him.
  9. Keep those memories coming red or blue we all have a football story to tell. Best game, best/favourite player who has played for you , best player you have seen, biggest crowd you been in, first derby game you saw. Get those memories out here and let us all enjoy the moment. I could fill the hard drive if i got going.
  10. I remember it very well. That morning every paper was tipping a Man U v Chelsea Final, they got it wrong. IF memory serves me well the other semi was played at Burnden Park. State of the pitch would be questionable today.
  11. Sorry Padders, searched Pathe News and You tube and nothing relevant. Take a look at this for old times.
  12. Just for you Runningman. I wasn,t refering to the team that played Man U .Kieth Ellis hatrick, Finney 2 and Fantham 2 that night as you know.
  13. My first visit to S6 was easter monday 1958 lost 2-1 to Burnley a few games later we were relegated. the next year promoted with Fulham , the end of the yoyo years. and from then on things were rosier , A semi final at Maine Road, losing 2-1 to Blackbun, robbed more like, Runners up to Spurs, beating Man Utd 7-2 at Old Trafford , A great team Springett, Johnson, Megson, MacAnearney, Swan , Kay, Finney , Craig, Layne, Fantham , Wilkinson. The good times and i used to wait at the shareholders entrance , " Take two in please Mister," Yes the early 60,s were a good time to be an Owls fan.
  14. For someone who brought Derek Dooley, Ron Springett, The 1966 World Cup to Hillsborough and known as " The Greatest Wednesdayite of the All" don,t sound remotely like Chansiri. I rest my case.
  15. Disgraceful performance. No on field leadership whatsoever, what, is the captain doing. GM can't hold there hand when they cross the white line.
  16. Enough is enough when you turn the radio commentary off.
  17. Scoreline respectable is all there is to say. We are light years away from the Premier league.
  18. Correct Padders, Peter Grummitt saved Mike Doyle penalty, Coleman scored for Owls and Phil Bowyer wants to be a hero and scores both for City. The beginning of ten years purgatory.
  19. I was there, Ian Bowyer had not read the script.
  20. Wouldn,t back Owls tonight at 20/1 with a three goal start. Using counterfeit money.
  21. As GM has stated you are not going to get players on loan in the january transfer window who are regular s in the team they play for . They come with little playing time and have to get up to speed asap. , Unless you are very lucky and a club has several players they wish to offload and fit then i don,t see the point in doing any deals, unless a player is hundred percent ready to go, you may aswell play players from the under 23,s., but i,m like everyone out there " we want names and faces" we have to be real it doesn,t happen. Certainly at S6.
  22. I would say this is very likely what has happened, only time will tell. GM says he has spoken to the players as a group and individually. Surely the first thing he would tell them would be whether they were in his future plans or not, and what were their thoughts to that situation. Would they be prepared to play to the standards asked of them which is also going to influence future employers and be to their advantage or tell them they will not be up for selection which appears to have happened with some of the players. In my opinion whatever happens GM is not going to change his mind, he knows who he wants and has done for a while, and those players are as determined to see the managers position is uncomfortable to say the least, and us as fans are caught up in the middle.
