  1. Does anyone know how old are the houses along Firthwood Road and whether they are built on mineshaftsas this appears to be a problem with the Dronfield area as a whole.
  2. Wow thank you to all those who have taken the time to feed back. Truly very helpful and I may pm some of you for specifics. It's really all about education for us, schools are so important and the no.1 reason for choosing Dronfield (closely followed by affordable housing in a decent area). Does anybody with kids at Henry Fanshawe know what the after school/childminding facilities, particularly fees, are like?
  3. Good to know Shirker. Which parts of Dronfield would you recommend and what do you think to the new Persimmon development at Stubley?
  4. Congrats on becoming a parent ! Know what you mean about 16+ and can see exactly what you mean about bland. Perhaps that's what we need after living it up in our 20's. Thankfully ours will be off to Uni when we're about ready to leave. Planting roots down for next 5+ years first! Is Dronfield a des res area? Property prices lead us to think so. Dore and Fulwood were both strong contenders but not value for money compared with outskirts.
  5. Interesting comments guys/girls. We've been looking at areas around Sheffield for ages. Major probs have been risk of flooding and lack of decent schools. Fascinated to know Rustyfunk which areas you would consider cool in comparison, given we're parents.
  6. Dronfield. Need to be within walking distance of Henry Fanshawe. Are there any particularly rough parts we should avoid?
  7. Hey there, still looking to relocate Up North. Exploring Dronfield but need the low down on what it's really like to live there. We're a 30 something family working in South Yorks.
  8. A senior moment Plain Talker....yes we did mean Spink Hill! We guess that everywhere is going to be much the same with good and bad areas. Working within the caring profession and coming from meager roots, we are both well acquainted with all sorts of people - some of the most genuine coming from large council estates. However, we do appreciate advice from established people about local "yob" sub-cultures, as this is unknown territory and we have a teenager to protect. Coming up for the first time this weekend so maybe a few drive by's will help our short-list.
  9. Ivor&Mel have just read that link and Eckington now sounds quite scary and not the sort of place we would want our teen to be placed in school.
  10. Thanks Tricky, great to know! Love getting insight...it may just save us big bucks and ever pressing time...
  11. Hi Strix, just tried to pm you but says mailbox full Eckington is looking high on our agenda, as is Springhill. Any views on that particular area where there is a fee paying school Mount St Mary's? So where did you end up and what made the decision?
  12. YES - we agree!!! We had got this one on the list already but thank you anyway. It does look gorgeous.
  13. chinaski - if only life was THAT easy and we were not an expanding family! Very good offer though and one we'll smile about for some time to come. Thank you ;-) mathom - thanks for the advice, it has confirmed what we have been thinking and finding out about. We're starting to think that we'll get more for our money living on the outskirts of Sheffield. Seriously considering Spinkhill, Eckington and Wickersley. Anyone got any advice about these areas? Please ....... Still haven't had feedback about Wadsley Park either. Cheers!
  14. Thanks kazads53 - will have a look at oughtibridge too, as well as bradfield school.
  15. We've seen a few really nice houses ourselves online and will include some of the above in our 'want to view' selection. We really want a Detached property as Mr P plays the guitar (loudly!!!). Also, nice to have privacy.
