  1. Sorry , just looked at the previous threads regarding the marriage and you were the main contributor to that thread. Hush my mouth.
  2. I am not sure if this is of any help at all but there has been a previous search regarding a wedding. If you google marriages 1856 charles jackson emma wilbraham sheffield forum , there is some info.
  3. 3. I suggest you google Nicky and Mark Webster and read about their situation. 4. You need to be 21 or over. In theory most authorities will advise that there is no maximum age for foster carers however it is something of a contradiction as some authorities will state there should be no more than a 40 year age gap between child and adoptive parent.
  4. Try Peak Vets, Olivet Road , Woodseats. My dog was having eye problems about 3 years ago. Our then current vet recommended them to us , as they had some specialist equipment. We stuck with them as we are not only impressed by the vets, but also the rest of the staff there.
  5. I'd have Gil Reece or Len Allchurch rather than Woodward. Or maybe Trenton Wiggan ?
  6. Is David Hirst your dad ? Only kidding!!!!

  8. Is he talking about people from Barnsley, Stocksbridge and Coal Aston. They've got funny accents and I feel his comments totally unfair? As an aside if the OP had used BigNeilPirch as the spelling of his alias, an anagram would have been "chirping bile"
  9. I remember some of the names of folks on here. John Clapham a bit older than me but if I remember correctly you had blonde curly hair and lived in the police house. Maid Marion ; I think Platts is your married name and that you and your sister were both attractive looking girls. I remember fondly the days of playing football , cricket and tennis on the street outside the gates of Beck Road School.I don't recall anyone having a car until Stan Bradley went and bought himself a beautiful pale blue Ford Cortina. All of a sudden our sports games became interrupted when he saw a ball go anywhere near his car.
  10. I suggest you look on the government's frequently asked questions section regarding AVC contributions to a pension scheme. Your contributions to an occupational pension scheme's AVC cannot be refunded if you have been contributing for more than 2 years I believe. Nobody will give you specific advice regarding fund performance i.e. transfer the contents of your current AVC fund to the Billy Whizz Super Duper Investment fund as it will grow at 75 % every year. An IFA might ask your attitude to risk to help you make up your mind. As Andrejuan has suggested there may well be tranfer charges however your employer may have negotiated favourable terms to transfer to its chosen AVC provider. If your company has an occupational pension scheme there should be some named individuals to whom you can refer. Best of luck
  11. Has anyone driven up Woodseats Road and Scarsdale Road today and if so how difficult were the road conditions? I would like to get to the Derbyshire Lane entrance of Graves Park.
  12. I remember Hope and Keen. They were a cross between Mike and Bernie Winters and Morecambe and Wise, but sadly they weren't very funny.
  13. I have a copy of Our Clubs dated June9th 1971 price 3p. One of my aunts had kept it as there was a tribute to my late father in it as he had been concert sec at the AEU club. Here are some of the clubs advertising in it and some of the turns who were appearing there at the time: Eastwood View WMC Patrick McClusky , Pam Hough Shiregreen WMC Miss X was on twice Midhill WMC Steve Denton and the Mystery Train Hillfoot WMC R S Jays Show Woodhouse West End The Heatwave, Edith on the organ Ecclesall Non Pol Sir James Linacre Pitsmoor,Queens Rd, La Plata,Tinsley , Burnaby St. Dial House,Darnall Horti, Burngreave Club, Philadephian, Burngreave libs , Darnall Aqueduct,Limes,Foundry Workers,Grimesthorpe social, The Amberley Hotel were some of the venues who had turns on. Duggie Brown, Doreen Beales , Turnstyle, the Chapman Brown Show , Lynne Perrie and The Duane Marcel Four are names who people may well recall who were appearing locally that week.
  14. Do you have children or a child there, if so are you concerned? Do the performance tables highlight the numbers of children with special educational needs due to learning or behavioural difficulties? The last Ofsted inspection reported that in every area of the inspection the school was rated either good or outstanding. Were the Ofsted inspectors misleading us?
  15. I have just had a visit from an old pal of mine , Keith Smith. On Tues 1st Dec there will be a reunion/ gathering at the Club Double Six. Mick Fidler had a long association with the Double Six first of all coming along and coaching and training the football team. Eventually Mick became the youth leader and enjoyed a lengthy spell in charge. As a young lad, I can still picture the lovely beaming smile from back of the counter there of his lovely and now sadly late wife Pauline. I am unsure as to whether Mick has organised the reunion or whether it has been organised on his behalf but I am sure there will be a lot of old Woodseats faces popping along to see Mick and I am sure the visit to the Double Six will be followed by a trip to a local hostelry.
  16. As far as Wood going, he is one of a collection of poor centre backs at the club at present . He may well be big, strong and Ok when the ball is lumped in the the air to opposing forwards but any striker with any subtlety will murder him. He may well be fit and strong but he is certainly not agile. At his best he is ponderous. He will only ever look good at a lower level. Sodje might return if the treatment table is uncomfortable at his new footballing home.
  17. For those who don't know the ice cream here is wonderful. Has your lovely wife had your baby yet?
  18. In the early 1980's I lived and worked in Canada for a short time . I worked for one company which sold whole life insurance on a door to door basis generally to low income families. The policies did not offer a great amount of life cover and were not expensive. The areas we were canvassing had a tremendous amount of immigrant population from all sorts of countries many of whom could not pinpoint or understand my broad Sheffield accent. From time to time the sales staff would "double pad," that is to say we would work in pairs for a little while to give each other encouragement. One particular Friday afternoon I was double padding with a native Canadian. It was his turn to make the sales presentation and I would be giving the moral support. It was going to be the last presentation of the day. Bob knocked on the apartment door and a large skinny man answered. He resembled Ginger Baker . His ginger hair was covered by a leather style flying helmet which seemed a little strange to be wearing indoors. He invited us in . The flat was loppy. His wife / girlfriend had teeth like a piano keyboard and was sprawled across the settee. The puppy they had was peeing all over the threadbare carpet. Their baby was happily crawling in the dog ****. The adults had either had had plenty of booze or some dope or both before our arrival. Ginger asked us if we would like a coffee. We could see a few cups scattered around with drink stains that might have been there for a few weeks. We declined. Bob was halfway through the rigid word for word presentation we were supposed to perform . By this point I had said nothing. Suddenly the Ginger one leapt up to his feet as though he had been electrocuted. " D' ya wanna beer? " he bellowed. Bob asked me what I thought . My only words were . " Goo on then." I was absolutely gobsmacked when the Ginger nutter excitedly said to me " You're from Sheffield England. My daddy is from Sheffield England and he sounds just like you."
  19. As the Yorkshire County Cricket club has long since abandoned its ancestral home in Sheffield, and totally ignores the rest of South Yorkshire as venues for first class cricket should there be a push for a South Yorkshire side in the County Championship? Yorkshire's home games are all played at Headingley, Leeds other than the fixtures during the Scarborough Festival.
  20. I blame the wealthy people of Whirlow with all their big cars and expensive TVs. I was up on the Whirlow playing fields today and there were some seagulls there. I think they were waiting for the tide to come in.
  21. Try FCA tel 0114 2426090 or Team Fostering. They will discuss with you the fees they pay you. You will be self- employed and whether you choose to foster through either of these agencies or a local authority you can expect to go through a lenghthy assessment period. A fostering agency would pay appreciably more than the local authority and the payments might vary according to the nature of that placement. At one point in time the more problematic of children were placed solely with private fostering agencies however that is no longer the case, as many local authority carers have moved to agency fostering due to the increased level of support and activities for both children and carers. There is now a shortage of foster carers. During the assessment can discuss what age, sex, ethnicity would be appropriate for you to foster. Best of luck in your fostering career.
  22. A little girl in my family passed this comment. My Mum has got three children and we have all got different Dads. She has never got married so she must be a lesbian!!!!!
  23. Based on the figures you have quoted then you are suggesting that it will be a doddle for a first time buyer to acquire a 95 % mortgage ; with an income multiple over over 7 times annual income , and that a good IFA will find it for you for no fee. Even the IFA's will be having a laugh at that one.
  24. You could try BCA ; British Car Auctions . You can select the Transporter model you are looking for and the site lists forthcoming auctions and catalogues. http://www.british-car-auctions .co.uk
