  1. Yeh I spose so. They should ask for a deposit full stop, they charge enough as it is!
  2. Hi julado, what they've told you is tripe, for one thing they shouldnt have asked for a deposit. I would be raising questions as why the deposit is needed when everyone else doesnt have to pay one why should he? (ask them if it is because he is deaf or because he has disabilities, is he being discriminated against). Also The bill could come to you, all you have to do is say the account holder is your son and the billing address is your address in Sheffield, the only way they wouldnt do this if it was itemised so just ask for a non-itemised bill, otherwise I can see no problem with it coming to you in Sheffield. The reason why the charge is £124.99 in newbuild's is cos all the wiring and sockets has been connected fresh and there wasnt one there before, this is always the case with new builds....... There goes my BT speel again! The prices they charge are obsurd I know I'm paying em!
  3. Hi, i'm new hope you dont mind my posting. Its terrible the housing situation, we're in a one bed ground floor flat (which we waited 4 yrs for) and want a house cos we get married in six months and want to start a family. My sister had her son and lived with my mum and dad (and me when I were still at home) for 2years before she were offered anything. Even then it was disgusting, my dad had to go under the floorboards to restrengthen the kitchen floor or it would have fallen through - council said nowt were up with it. Next door neighbour said the previous owner left it in a right tip and all the windows were covered in black flies. Why do they let them get like this, surely the council should go straight in, clean it up and re-release it. It were empty yonks. We've tried bidding but only way we'll get something is if I end up pregnant and in a one-bed flat that is not an option. We dont qualify for priority in any way shape or form so will have to buy in about 18months time, which the way the housing market is going and the prices isnt looking at all promising, we've got steady jobs but pay isnt great, bills, council tax, weekly food etc it all adds up. If I've ten quid left after payday and all bills been paid my goodness me I'm a lucky girl! As well as SYHA try Arhes and Places for People, they might be able to help. They just knocking Scowerdons down and theres hardly anywhere for them to go. Doubt they'll start rebuilding anytime soon.... I sincerely sympathise with your situation and hope you find somert soon.........
  4. Hi, I used to work for BT yonks ago. The only way round it I can think of is to tell them you want an extention fitted off the main line, (so there one main phone line and 2sockets) they should then only charge you for that if the line is already there then they should switch the line ON for free as long as there is no fault of course. Also the £124.99 should be a charge if there is a fault with the line not the equipment so if all you need is a box and the line is fine they should waive the charge. There are some freelance telephone engineers that advertise in Sheffield Star, they should be able to fit you a new box/socket for less than BT charge and the line again should be switched on free, they usually put the charge on then waive it afterwards. Hope this helps. Only other thing is to contact Ofcom? and ask how much is costs BT to do the work compared to how much they charge the poor old customer!! P.S A landline is a priority in all houses especially if you have kids!! Tell BT it was the builders fault and to invoice SYHA for the work.
