  1. I'll bow to your superior knowledge on the subject of good/bad driving. But I thought 50 was the maximum speed limit and it isn't compulsary to keep to that speed. Surely you drive according to the conditions, keeping up with the traffic (within speed limits, of course). But I agree that should be increased to 60/70 until approaching the roundabouts at either end. And no, I do not drive in the outside lane at 30!!!
  2. I thought it was illegal to to undertake on the inside.
  3. We looked round there a few years ago. We saw a 3 year old car, that we traded in with another company. Although, not the same car it was the same year, make, model and colour as ours. They wanted £2,000 more than we paid for it brand new.
  4. I grew up in Gleadless Town End in the 50/60s. Back then it was supposed to be new hospital. The Southern General. This was well befor the dual carriageway was even thought of. Wonder what happened.
  5. Just been to bank, police gone but lights on in bank. Presume the managers there. Machine at Wodhouse won't let me change PIN. So rang emergency number and explained problem. They have cancelled card and will send out new one. THANKS FOR LETTING US KNOW>
  6. When was this device found? Used the machine is morning.
  7. Hi, we are looking for a under 10's team for my 9 year old son around the north of the city. He is a very keen GOALKEEPERwho played in a championship winning side last season. He also attends a Goalkeeping course at SUFC academy. please call- 07870 294205 if you have a vacancy. thank u.
  8. Just heard the sad news that Irene Carter, ex-BT operator at Hallam and Hillsborough exchanges, has passed away. I worked with Irene at Hillsborough DAC on nights in the 90s. She was great fun and a pleasure to work with. Funeral on Thurs 21st at 3 pm, Hutcliffe Wood. Look forward to seeing any "old" operators there.
  9. No, I don't think the number of taxis is a joke, they are only trying to make a living. I think the whole access to the railway station is a joke. The amount of space wasted by the concrete, steel and water mostrosity, traffic forced down narrow back streets to access both the station and the busy car park. Whoever planned and designed this wants naming, shaming and publicly executing. What an impression this gives to first time visitors to our city..
  10. Hear, hear, iphonelover. I been on long haul flights with noisy, restless children. You can't expect them to sit quiet for 6-10 hours. So why inflict it on them and on other passengers? As for baby trollies getting wet. From what I've seen parents are to idle to return them when cover is provided. They are just left anywhere, raining or not.
  11. Pity it's Eccelesall Road, too much out of the way for me. Re-opening Meadowhall would have been better. I always used that branch.
  12. What do you mean by "Stupid Fees" or do you mean you want it free? I use Handsworth Chiropody, near White Rose. He is very good but a private practise. He has to make a living so I suppose he doesn't work for nothing. Would you?
  13. The answer is easy, don't buy it. I don't understand the constant need to eat and drink. Believe it or not you can survive 2/3 hours without food and drink.
  14. I use my local butcher and greengrocer. Much better quality and cheaper than supermarkets. It's a fallacy that supermarkets are cheaper. USE THEM OR LOSE THEM.
  15. I spent my teenage/twenties between the Old Harrow the Centre Spot and the Olive Grove. The rest of the time I wasted. Wonderful times, wonderful music, wonderful memories.
  16. It went over Woodhouse about 1820. Fantastic sight.
  17. GremlinMick I also had to queue in the Gas offices on Commercial St (now the No1 Chinese Buffet), another fabulous old building, to pay my mums gas bill. I used to go to "town", usually the "Rag and Tag" on Saturday morning with my friends and was asked to "pop in the gas offices on my way" I loved the atmosphere in the old Rag and Tag, the new Castle Market was never the same. I also remember going on a visit to the old GPO Telephone Exchange and was enthralled by it. I eventually got to be an operator, but by then it had moved to Charter Square and had become British Telecom. I was fascinated by the 999 exhange with its lights and buzzer. Also by Directory Enquiries and the large telephone directories.
  18. Another beautiful old building left to rot. Another apalling road system in Fitzalan Square. Another area of our once great city ruined by incompetant planners and the relentless march of the anti-car brigade. Now that Labour are back in power, expect more of the same.
  19. I've never used Park n Ride and I am rather baffled by it. Do I have to pay to run my car, pay for parking in the Park n Ride and them pay again on the bus/tram. Surely this is a rather expensive way to travel.
  20. Chefkicker Yeah? right. Sounds to me like a case of "The lady doth protest too much" syndrome. Why don't you answer therooks question?
  21. Chefkicker sounds as if he/she has an axe to grind. Do I detect a touch of envy?
  22. Me too! Great carefree times. It's true, youth IS wasted on the young.
  23. Cakecraft, Mansfield Road. (Near Fire Station) have a large selection of items. Cake tins can be expensive, so hiring them maybe a better idea. Cakecraft have a large selection of shapes and sizes for hire (at least they used to, I've not been for a while). Russums of Rotherham are also very good. Both have websites. If you are new to Cake Decorating and intend doing a lot of cakes, my advice is buy good quality tubes. "Bekenal" are the best. Make sure your tins and tubes are perfect. Check that there are no seams, dents or any other flaws because these will show in the cake/decoration. Don't be sucked into buying a lot of things you don't need. You don't need to buy icing bags, get a roll of greaseproof paper and make your own. I've made and decorated many cakes and enjoyed every minute. Good luck and enjoy it.
  24. I don't hate United, though i do hope Wednesday finish above them next season. So second place for the blades would be fine!!!
