  1. thanks... i liked the look of crookes and the locations good cos i could walk into town, but i don't know i could afford it, are there any houses/flats these days for like 45k? small's fine, i mean crookes/crookesmoor would be so ace but how realistic is that? also i have acquaintances in burngreave, what is it really like there?
  2. ooh, well the cheaper the better, like REALLY cheap, but i don't want to get attacked or robbed, and i don't have a car so it needs to be pretty easy to get around sheffield by public transport. is that specific enough? actually i did think about burngreave but i don't know how safe it is, one friend of mine looks scared and says "aaargh attercliffe pitsmoor blah blah babble grrrhhnngrfff", another one says it's fine, don't listen to him where else?
  3. Hello, how is everyone? Where you reckon the cheapest place to live (counting muggings as a potential cost!) in Sheffield is?
  4. hullo... dunno if anyone remembers me, prolly not! aint been around on here in ages, maybe as much as a year. im a sheffield ex-pat (ha!) and recently have really been seriously considering moving back to the old town. dont know if this post is really appropriate, but the moderator can always delete it if not...basically my life here has fallen apart and i'm wondering about moving back to sheffield, but i'm in two minds because although i love the place, i'm also firmly of the opinion that there's no going back, only forward. i know you guys'll all be biased in sheffield's favour! but maybe you can remind me of its good and bad points and the dangers of running away from your problems (ha!) the problems i found whilst living there were, everything i loved was shutting down, i couldnt get a job, and landlords are eeevil eeevil eeeeeeeeevil! but i also loved it because it's a beautiful city, looks especially gorgeous in spring, it's very green (i'm not really an urban kind of girl), it's small enough that you can get around easily without being late, i dont get shouted or leered at on the street, i have some old friends there, there are cool places where you can see bands play, loads of places where you can get vegetarian food, and the fat cat is the best pub in the world ever i dunno what to do!
  5. theres some dodgy david icke book called 'and the truth shall set you free'. steer clear say i! ps: i'm not anti-religion, just anti david icke pps: i don't think any of us want to get into a "does god exist" religion debate so let's leave that thought right here
  6. though i've lived here since i was 2 (does that make me a sheffielder? i've always considered myself one), my best mate is from canning town in east london (also lived in elephant & castle and later croydon which is worse) and i often jokingly tell her she's an honorary sheffielder. i know she likes to hear that cos she loves this city, scars and all, and hates london more than i did (i lived there for 2 months remember) - she had to live there for the first 15 years of her life so i know she appreciates sheffield more than most. sorry, this was a bit o.t. i guess we're both abit too young to really know that much about sheffield council's history, though there are a good few problems. but really nowheres perfect and sheffield is the best place i've ever been. i love travelling about but i always come home to sheffield and am glad to be back. places like croydon are nationally reviled but there are less jibes about sheffield, and for good reason: it's a good place, the people are more than decent, and it's the perfect cross between city and greenery with green places to walk around on your doorstep. so can my best mate be a sheffielder-please?
  7. i lived in sharrow a little while and thought it was ok. leafy and central, i've lived in worse places. but i didn't feel safe there i guess, not walking home after dark. i imagine thats what you mean by worst area though, right? where you could feel safe and not get beaten up or harrassed, or where there isnt too much graffiti or drugs, or where there isnt gangs of lads hanging about because theyve nothing better to do. i'd have said pitsmoor was the worst area because its kind of scary. i dont know about working class or snobby, i dont care about class difference, my only thought is how safe you are and whether theres good transport links to elsewhere, and whether or not you see greenery out the window. i wouldnt mind living in dore, though i'd have to buy a bike i suppose! it'd be a bit boring. i like to live close to the action. its all subjective though isnt it, it depends on what you look for. t020, what do you look for in an area? i tell you what i don't look for in an area...i moved to london for a little while but hated it so much i left after only 2 months. i hate arrogance, people just walking right across you or shoving onto a train before you, not letting you past, always in more of a hurry than you, motorists not stopping when youre waiting at a zebra crossing, that sort of thing. i lived in an unpretentious, working class area (canning town) and worked on oxford street, but people weren't friendly or considerate. nowheres perfect, i know, but i've never found such rudeness to quite such a level anywhere outside of london, and i've lived in a lot of places in the u.k. sorry, i should've said hi, i'm new. hope it's ok me just posting like this.
