  1. According to their flyer NO PARKING ON SITE although I know there are a few disabled spaces in the car park.
  2. sadly Dave Moxon passed away a few years ago.
  3. Why?, the fair is operated by one of the area's oldest firms, Farrar's Funfairs who are travelling Showmen, not to be confused with some other types of travellers. They are also the main sponsors of Sheffield by the Seaside and have invested a lot of money into this popular event. ---------- Post added 17-08-2013 at 00:55 ---------- Also in 2012 William Percival who owns Farrar's Funfairs donated £4000 to St Lukes Hospice, from profits made at their City Centre Xmas fair, so I don't think you need to lock your doors and windows!
  4. Farrar's Funfair are at Hillsborough Park until Sunday 18th, open daily from 1.30, all adult rides £1.50 except Freakout £2 and all kids rides are £1. Free admission, if you park in the park's car park, don't forget there is now a pay and display machine.
  5. They were probably escorting John Mottershall or what ever he is called to pick up his back hander from Hammersons!
  6. Farrar's Funfairs have paid for all the huts you see at the beach / Xmas market etc and without their help these events would not take place, Fright Night and Xmas lights switch on as well, as these days with all the cut backs the council has no or little funds to put on these type of events, but earn revenue from companies like Farrar's Funfairs who sponsor and organise them.
  7. An agreed amount will paid along with a bond if the fair is in a Park in case any damage is done to the grass. For example Farrar's Funfair is coming to Hillsborough Park next week. They will have already paid the rent and bond, paid for advertising before they have taken anything. The owner of the fair William Percival owns his own rides along with family members, so they all attend, then he rents out other plots to other showmen who pay him a rent. These figures are only known to the showmen, but I know can be costly and if it rains all week, they will end up with little. This is what happened last year when from May to July loads of fairs were cancelled because the grounds they were due to open on were too wet / soft.
  8. A bit like cars, you can buy a cheap one than is always breaking down and looks rough or buy a new one, Farrar's Dodgem track although the cars are a little older, but not too old was purchased brand new around 4 years ago and visits many fairs throughout the year both in the area and further afield. They just don't turn up and disappear either, they have to pay rent ( a substantial amount) to the Council, land owner, Parks Dept etc and get all the relevant risk assements and health and safety documents.
  9. To buy a Dodgem track like the one in Fargate at the moment it would cost you in excess of £150,000. Then the bumper cars would have been about £2000 each, then you need two lorries to transport it, pay insurance, tax, public liability, vat, fuel for the generator, pay staff etc.
  10. Did not see any problems today, City Centre Ambassadors and the organisers constantly keep an eye on things. All we saw were lots of families having a great time.
  11. Had a fantastic time there today as we looked after a friends 2 year girl, she loved the sand pit.

  13. Winter st as well, building still there, but not sure what it is used for these days.
  14. The fairground pay the council / parks dept for hire of the allocated space for its visit, so they have paid already!, same with the ice cream van etc, they have to pay for a permit, they don't just turn up for nothing.
  15. Once went to a firms do, Norman Collier was on first, got booed off, followed by Brothers Lee and that chicken in a basket was nice!
