  1. Europe has been suffering from a shortage of drivers for years. This article is from 2018, before the pandemic. https://www.bifa.org/news/articles/2018/dec/truck-driver-shortage-crisis-now-spreading-across-the-whole-of-europe
  2. This is true, but it still comes under the remit of social care that would benefit from an increase in NI revenues. I wasn't sure if it was anymore, but https://www.nhs.uk/Services/careproviders/Overview/DefaultView.aspx?id=65877 says it is.
  3. It's been a long time since I had any knowledge of it, but the care packages provided were designed to equal the benefit income of the client, with extra costs for non essential care. So I wouldn't imagine it was any different to that of the private sector to be honest; it's not like the clients (those needing care) are going to have money left over. Note that was for respite care, rather than care for pensioners, of which I have no idea about - but don't think that just because care is subsidized by the social components of council tax that it's any cheaper than private.
  4. This was my point in an earlier post. To cancel a booked act due to concerns around inclusivity just means that they didn't care about inclusivity when they booked it. SCT should now go ahead and publish a list of what is acceptable and what isn't and only book acts that meet the 'inclusivity' criteria. The reality is that they have no list and cancelling this show was a kneejerk response to a complaint, and future acts that perform risky comedy will continue to be booked. Jimmy Carr makes jokes about paedophilia and rape. SCT obviously considers that his show meets the standards and values it desires at it's venues, as he plays the City Hall next year.
  5. SCC do have care homes/units in the community, such as the respite care unit on Warminster Road. Not everything is privatised.
  6. It's a pie in the sky idea put forward by some think tank that has got recognition. The reality is that the store was purchased in March and the staff were told by the new owners that there are plans to convert the building into a mix of retail and hospitality, including a roof terrace bar, a restaurant in the basement and retail units on the different floors. It won't be a hospital. It probably won't be a mix of retail and hospitality either.
  7. I bought a little USB capture device from.. somewhere I can't remember. It takes 5 slides and has a small screen so you can view each slide, then you can take a picture of each one which is saved to a memory card. You then either transfer it via USB or via the card. The quality was decent enough for what it is. It's a laborious job though. Basically something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/DIGITNOW-Resolution-Negative-Computer-Required/dp/B01HZQZLXW
  8. Going back to the topic, what should happen is that according to GDPR you can have your account deleted; if that isn't possible, then your data should be obscured. So if posts cannot be deleted, where the poster's name appears on the left of their post the name should be rendered into garbage, as to remove the link between the post and the account. I've no idea if this happens on SF. I've never seen a garbage username (well, not one that wasn't intentional). Seen plenty of garbage posts, but that's a different matter Edit Taken from SF's T&Cs: 4.8 If you wish to close your Account, you may do so at any time. Closing your Account will result in the removal of your information. Closing your Account will also remove access to any areas of Our Site requiring an Account for access. 4.9 If you close your Account, any Posts you have made on Our Site will be anonymised by removing your username, avatar and any identifiable information.
  9. SCT is a charity and manages the City Hall on behalf of SCC according to Wikipedia https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/700520 SCT owns SIV, Sheffield City Hall Ltd and Sheffield Festival Ltd.
  10. That's not the argument at all. We live in a free country, where within hate speech laws people such as Brown can say what he wants on stage and he has to accept the consequences of his words. The consequence here is that he has had his show cancelled. I can't say I'm bothered about that; if people want to go and watch him, fine. Go and heckle him and call him a racist at his shows if you want, you have the right to do so but you also need to accept the consequences of your actions in that scenario. My beef here is with SCT; they obviously didn't have a problem with him being booked in the first place and knew they would make money on it, so whatever values they have as an organisation either didn't exist in the first place or are not as important as money. It's quite clear that without the noisy minority, the gig would have gone ahead as normal. The values that SCT now feel they have and which are at odds with Brown will be quickly forgotten by the time the next comic is on stage cracking jokes about homosexuality, child abuse, sexism, death, rape, terrorists etc etc.
  11. What has Jared O'Mara's selection process and failure as an MP got to do with the Tories? As El Cid points out, there isn't much information available to see why he was selected, and it raises a lot of questions. Why was he selected? Was he the best candidate the NEC thought Sheffield Labour had to offer? Doesn't say much about the quality of candidates does it? Would the local party have rejected his selection if they could have done? Did the local party already know he would be unsuitable? I think it's fair that no matter what your political allegiance is, you have the right to expect your local MP to at least be competent and represent your constituency in Parliament.
  12. The problem with the cancel culture is that there is never a clear criteria that determines when an organisation like SCT can hold their hands up and say 'we did wrong, we shouldn't have allowed that show to be booked'. It's just a knee jerk reaction to someone complaining about it, when other artists in a similar vein will fly under the complainant's radar. The lack of criteria means a lack of consistency; so they'll ban Roy Chubby Brown, but not an act like Jimmy Carr for instance. For the people who complained about Brown, which Jimmy Carr jokes about rape, paedophilia and homosexuality do you enjoy? (FWIW Jimmy Carr is next March, tickets are on sale. I think he's great.)
  13. Yep. https://labourlist.org/2019/08/what-labour-should-learn-from-jared-omaras-selection/ https://momentum.nationbuilder.com/campaign_weekend_in_sheffield_hallam1
  14. Yeah, it was started after I did my post in this thread. I thought I best put my post in the Labour thread rather than starting a new one, as the old Jared thread had been locked due to old school SF moderation
  15. The junction where Hollinsend meets Ridgeway Road wouldn't be fun on a bike if you are going straight over it; not only are you crossing tram rails, you'll need to be in the middle of two lanes of cars, and space is at a premium, plus you have cars turning across your path from the other direction. I never see cyclists on this junction, possibly for good reason. I'd give City Road a trial run to be honest, it's only got tram tracks for half the distance you are on it and it's by far the most direct route; plus, apart from the parking bay at Manor Top, there are no parked cars to navigate until you are past the tram tracks. I used to cycle down there plenty of times to town; you basically freewheel from Manor Top to McDonalds at the bottom of Granville Road.
  16. I remember my house price doubling in a few years in the early years of the 2000s; we had far more social housing then as well as a buy to let market and holiday homes. Was that the fault of the Conservatives as well, who managed to preside over a housing price crash in the '90s?
  17. The Labour gift to Sheffield that keeps giving. https://southyorks.police.uk/find-out/news-and-appeals/2021/august-2021/former-sheffield-mp-summonsed-to-court-in-connection-to-fraud-investigation/
  18. Ah yes, sorry. 'Election winning Labour'.
  19. To keep the thread on topic, the UK Borders Act 2007, which introduced the laws that lead to those 50 criminals being on a plane, is a Labour invention. If Labour don't like the laws, then perhaps they should try and revoke the parts of their own Act that they have decided they no longer like? I'm sure that's an election winner.
  20. If you can launch a web page and pass it the username and password to login automatically from a desktop shortcut, then it means you are passing the username and password in the URL. i.e. mysite/webmail?username=bob&password=bobbins That's a sign of a very old school login IMO. As for a potential cause of the problem you were having, it sounds like the site couldn't set cookies properly in the browser, which might have been some setting in the uninstalled AV app.
  21. Honda deny it has anything to do with Brexit. The quote in the article about Brexit being the straw is from a Professor at the University of Bath, not Honda.
  22. The claim on here is that the RSPC illegally took some animals away. The Facebook page doesn't say that. I think it's quite fair for people on this thread to want more information - the right information. The latest Facebook posts indicate the site needed a huge clean up, with a paddock chest high in weeds, dirty pens, rooms needing painting and now needing equipment to power an electric fence. I think Busdriver1 is spot on with his assumption and the sanctuary has fallen into disrepair to the level the animals were removed, temporarily or permanently, which for an animal sanctuary is incredibly embarrassing to admit so the initial story given by either the Sanctuary or a concerned party was a load of tosh and had to be removed from Facebook as it wasn't true. It would seem the OP hasn't followed suit.
  23. Were you there when the animals were removed? It seems quite black and white: a) The RSPCA removed animals illegally or b) The RSPCA removed animals legally and the Sanctuary is being evasive with the truth. Considering how the Sanctuary Facebook page can't even muster an official explanation apart from asking for help to tidy the site and someone creating a GoFundMe which might well be used for legal costs at some point, you can understand why a lot of people will be thinking answer b). Edit In fact the GoFundMe organiser in the Facebook comments says she doesn't know what the money will be used for, but is for legal fees if required.
  24. It's as if someone made a forum account just to reply to the posts on this thread isn't it. If defending the Sanctuary via bashing the RSPCA is the only defence, then I'm not sure it's a good one.
  25. As a sign of the times, this thread would have been locked by now back in 2016
