  1. Hi Guys, In April this year I posted a request for a jazz trombonist who lived and pereformed in the Sheffield atea late 1950's and 1960's I gave his name as Mick Shaw but I got it wrong!!! His name is Mick Shore. We were in the RAF together 1956 to 1958 but lost touch. I have heared that he performed regularly the the area. So if anyone remembers Mick Shore or knows of his whereabouts or anything, please let me know. Thanks.
  2. Hi Texas, This local Sheffield Tuxedo band is not to be confused with the original American and Famous Tuxedo Band of 1910 lead by Papa Celestin. I don't know if they made any records, I doubt it, but Papa Celestin certainly made recordings later on. I think he died in the 1950's. But Celestin did definitely play with all the early jazz musicians. Mick Shaw was a local Sheffield lad and I served and played with him in the Royal Air Force in 1956. I heard from another friend that he formed a Traditional Jazz band when he was demobbed and that would be after 1958. I bhave just looked on the web and discovered that Papa Celestin made a series of records after 1917 by Columbia and Okeh. so they were certainly a very early recording band. Thanks for your comments.
  3. Hi guys, I am not from Sheffeild but was in the RAF with a mean trombonist by the name of Mick Shaw who lived in the Sheffield area. I understand he formed a trad jazz band by the name of Tuxedo Jazz Band. He must have been performing in these venues you are all discussing during the late 50's- 60's. Can anyone remember anything about him or his band. He would be in his 70's by now. I have located another RAF jazz performer who was also his friend and he is still playing. Goff Dubber, he has a website and in his photos and history there is a picture of the RAF jazz band featuring Mick. Its facinating reading all your nostalgic moments, great stuff, Keep it up and if anyone remembers Mick please leave a comment.
  4. Hi sprite, I see you posted this message in May 2005, so I hope you are still around? You mention that Wild Bill played with Mick Shaw in Sheffield. Was this Mick Shaw a Sheffield based trombone player who led his own band? If so could you provide a bit more information about him, and is he still going today? It's nice to read about your memories of the jazz greats who visited Sheffield. Keep it up.:)
