  1. Apologies if this is a stupid question, but can we have bigger radiators fitted to improve the temp in our house (some seem very small), or do we also need a new boiler? Thanks
  2. Another recommendation for S6 Handyman, Lee Rogers, who came to our new house and put all sorts of things right for us, and fitted lots of great new bookshelves. Lee is always really positive and helpful, works hard and clears up after himself - will definitely be asking him back for more jobs in the future. (I can't tempt either of the cats into that little hammock though Lee!)
  3. Just moved house and the shower cubicle needs the seal replacing at the bottom of the (curved) doors. It's probably just a tiny job to someone but I can't work out what sort of seal I need or how to get the doors off! Can anyone suggest someone to do that for me? Thanks
  4. Big thanks to Lee Rodgers - aka Leepy or the S6 Handyman - 07946237432 - came and did some jobs we've been storing up for ages. Lee is polite, on time, hard working and a pleasure to have in the house. Will def be in touch again Lee! Beth
  5. Try U-Mix Centre near Queens Road, very reasonable prices for their dance studio

  7. I'm looking for help with secondary glazing for noise reduction. Have got an approx quote for the actual window panel, but am unconfident about precise measurements and fitting it. Who would I get to help me - would a general handyman do it or do I need a window fitter? Thanks

  9. Hi, what's the difference between the different bits of Totley? Am thinking about areas to live in and am not familiar with the area. Thanks
  10. Anyone live there or have lived there who can let me know if it's a nice peaceful place to live? Thanks
  11. Am sure it's all fine but was just followed home by a long haired tortie cat with a tag, called Pancho, near Empire Road, S7. I had a hunch that she might be lost or have wandered out of her territory and would feel awful if I didn't put something on here, just in case. Hopefully she's just not a cat I've met before and she's already home.
  12. Hi, I work for a charity which has two premises, and we are thinking about getting a keyholding service so that staff don't have go out on their own if either of the burglar alarms goes off. We've not used one before - does anyone have any experience of this, or suggestions about what to look for when choosing a company to do this? Thanks
  13. If you come out of the garage intending to turn left, is there any advance notice of the bus lane and the hours it operates? I can't remember ever seeing one.
  14. Another recommendation for Fresh'n'Clean carpet cleaners. Excellent price, quick appointment, friendly chap (John) - will definitely use again.
  15. All large shops must close on Easter Sunday, so garden centres won't be open

  17. 50 delivered to the refuges yesterday, much appreciated. Thanks BB
  18. Have you tried the Domestic Abuse team? They might be able to give them to refuges for the kids there. http://sheffielddact.org.uk/domestic-abuse/
  19. Try 'Everyday Mindfulness', they run 8 week courses although I doubt they are free.
  20. I adopted a very timid young cat earlier this year and had to be very, very patient with him, made him a little den he could hide in and left him alone in that room for a few days, apart from going in to leave food, change his litter etc. I chatted to him quietly but didn't approach or try to touch him. If you look on the web you'll find lots of advice about adopting timid or semi feral cats. The main thing seems to be that you have to let them hide for as long as they need to and come round in their own time. After many weeks my cat started to become a bit braver and is now very loving, although still quite jumpy. Good luck!
  21. I know it's really horrible to think of her not having a proper burial, but one scrap of comfort might lie in knowing that her beautiful soul had left by then and she was free. She'll always be with you. Thinking of you
  22. I'm so sorry to hear that Kim, my heart goes out to you. At least she is at peace now, but I know that's not much consolation at the moment. Sending you a big hug. And as teeny says, it's black bin day this Fri so you should be able to get her if you can face it. Do you have someone to go with you to get her?
  23. Thanks very much everyone, I couldn't have done it without the advice and support on here! And Teeny has been great too, looking after both cats when we've been on holiday. Medusa I'm glad your Al is such a happy cat, he sounds quite the cool customer, being gorgeous in a 'look but don't touch' sort of way! The latest Charlie challenge is that the cat flap we have, which is one of those fancypants ones that reads your cat's microchip, won't recognise Charlie at all. It works fine with the other cat, so it's likely that Charlie's chip has moved somewhere from his neck. The RSPCA (where I got him) are kindly lending me a scanner so I don't have to take him over there to check. Oh Charlie!!
  24. Hi, just wanted to give a quick update on the progress of the nervous cat I adopted back in March, Charlie. Many of you were really helpful with advice and reassurance, and I'm delighted to say he's coming on really well - after a few weeks in a box and then behind a bookcase, he started to venture out and became more and more adventurous round the house, and gradually started allowing chin rubs and strokes. He now LOVES a stroke when he's in the mood, particularly when our other cat is around or it's food time. The resident cat still isn't keen despite all his winning ways (rolling on the ground, showing his lovely tummy, making completely cute warbles and squeaks), and gives him a bash now and then, but she's managing to live alongside him. And the loveliest thing is that we finally felt we could trust Charlie to come back if we let him outside, and he's loving it out there. I did some training with a little bell and some tuna and so far he mostly comes back when I ring the bell, or at least within sight so I'm reassured. Well done Charlie! And thanks so much for your support everyone, it was a very nerve wracking experience and there were many times I thought he'd never even come out of his box.
