  1. My Nan and Grandad, Ted and Jessie Moulds had a allotment at chancet wood gardens. They used to live in one of the huts until they moved to lowrgdges probably late 50s early 60s. Grandad used to fly his pigeons from there, and his old stone wall is still in the wood.
  2. Stray racing pigeon seen outside Morrisons on broomhill shops, pied/chequered color two green rings, no numbers visible might be someone's lost pet?
  3. Yeah I've seen the aircraft from Thorpe, daytime operations only though, this was a twin prop operating in the dead of night, read it might be some sort of surveillance aircraft. It was following a search pattern in big circles heading towards sheffield, overhead for over an hour or so.
  4. Just been watching it circling over Killamarsh/Beighton area... Just gone now. Google search of "twin prop plane circling at night" revealed worrying results
  5. Manhattans are great, always have my bike serviced there and the work is always spot on. My machines covered 64k in three years and manhattans have kept it firmly on the road through that time. Proper old school bike shop, which are sadly becoming rare these days. Highly recommended
  6. It's a nationwide thing with defender parts at the moment.
  7. The bus stops are longer to accommodate the lines of 120 busses that drive everywhere in a convoy of different operators. No wonder traffics a nightmare!
  8. Just been to Westfield for the advertised 15-16:30 lane swim to be told it's cancelled for a private party...great! Ended up in Eckington with everyone else, which I find a bit too warm tbh. Going to try ponds forge, but commuting 11 miles to get a decent swim is a bit far 4-5 times a week. It does annoy me when proper swimming plays second fiddle to everything else!
  9. The great Comet ISON, suspected to have broken up just prior to Perihelion, then reappeared from behind the Sun a lot later than expected. The remnant initially brightened quite a lot on its way back out, leading me to believe that the Nucleus had survived. sadly however it faded away. The remnant of ISON will be visible but is around magnitude +5 so not easy to see at all. Worth looking out for next year is ESA's Rosetta mission, which will land on a comet and take samples to determine what it's made of!
  10. There is still a large storage facility of several thousand barrels of god knows what,in decaying and leaking barrels! plus the stuff they buried and denied having. Also the tankers which are parked up overnight, so it wouldn't surprise me if there had been an incident. It's the first time I've heard that siren in all the years I've lived here.
  11. Yes I suspect it was the SARP siren, however as it hasn't been tested recently I don't know what it should sound like!
  12. Heads up, There has been a spate of bicycle thefts, petty crime and assaults in rother valley by certain individuals with Irish accents. One was challenged last night and he produced an iron bar which he used to make threats! Be very careful when leaving your bikes, and especially around the trans Pennine trail area, as this is where they are lurking and hiding bikes etc, if you see anything suspicious please notify police and park staff, they are carrying offensive weapons so do not approach.
  13. Fantasy FM, Hardcore FM and SCR...everyone had it on in there cars....happy days!
  14. Satellite tv, Internet, communications, scientific research into just about everything you can think of, understanding what we and the rest of the universe is made of..you use products of the space program everyday. The answers to the energy crisis will more than likely be linked to the exploration and understanding of universal physics. The answer is out there, we just have to find it. Better weather forecasting and understanding storms, hurricanes, weather systems....which will save many lives. Better understanding of climate change. Shall I continue ?
  15. Maybe....but I would still love to hear an Apollo astronaut speak. Maybe you should speak to mr clegg while he is in sheffield and get him to explain how the government can fund 35 billion pounds on a train set that nobody will use, but cannot adequately fund the country's health service, schools and public services. I personally support Sheffield children's hospital charity. Astronomy is a personal interest of mine.
