  1. No contest. The best fish/chips was Bestall`s on Bolover Street. It was a husband and wife operation and they worked well as a team. He did the cooking and she did the serving. Every night there was a queue that went right out of the store. With the building of the Arts Block at the university the place was demolished and I heard they moved to the Ecclesall area. Anyhow the best chippy.
  2. I recall one at the bottom of Mushroom Lane and the beginning of Winter Street. Near Weston Park. There was also one on Commonside. near that hospital.
  3. My good friends George & Bill Wood attended St Marie`s in the 40`s & 50`s. They both went on to De La Salle.
  4. The old Corn Exchange. A stunning great building sadly lost in a fire. I think it was on Exchange Street.
  5. My recollection of High Schools in the 50`s were, Firth Park City Grammar High Storrs King Edwards Central Tech Abbeydale Grammar Hurlfield Nether Edge Notre Dame De La Salle
  6. I went to De La Salle in the 50`s and our school colours were Green and Gold. I don`t have a school badge but vaguely remember it. Other high schools I remember were:- Firth Park Grammar City Grammar Convent High School Central Tech King Edwards High Storrs Hurlfield Notre Dame Did I miss any? Do you remember your school colours and what was the badge like?
  7. The last I heard he lived on Wentworth Street. But that was 60 years ago, he`s probly moved by now.

  9. I went to St Joseph`s School on Howard Hill Walkley from 1948 until 1952 but went to Western Road School for woodwork one afternoon a week. I think the teachers name was Mr Shaw. I remember he had a few fingers missing. Being a woodwork teacher I wonder why???
