Mrs H Solo replied to Mrs H Solo's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I usually go straight up the m1 to junction 33 and into the centre, so I should be ok then. -
What would you all have to talk about it if didnt snow? I can't believe it creates such discussion.

I attended from Nursery to leaving 5th form in 73 so I was probably in the year above you. I lived across the road from the school. -
now thats interesting, I used to work round the corner in Hartshead at Vehicle Licencing Office. That scan of the business' - Basil D Laitner, I worked with his daughter at aforementioned establishment when she worked there for the summer, it was her wedding where the murder took place. And interestingly for me and nobody else is that another business there is USDAW, where I am currently employed. I didnt realise they used to have an office in Sheffield. Thats why I love this forum.

Supermarkets are taking over this country. I live within walking distance of 3 superstores which are all open 24 hours. There is a big space recently vacated on our main road, big enough for a Tesco Express, I really hope not but they are everywhere you turn.

Apartments to rent in Sheffield for the weekend?
Mrs H Solo replied to KATIEB_23's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Try Sheffield University, we stayed their last summer, it was set in superb grounds, extremely clean, and reasonably priced along with the fact its not that far from the city centre too. -
Clearly not, as I have shocked my work colleagues with that information.
-
Where did you get that information from, sounds pretty callous.

Clothes and coats going missing from school
Mrs H Solo replied to charmaine79's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Years ago, when my daughter was in junior school, she noticed something missing from her schoolbag when she returned to it after a PE session. She reported it to her form teacher who asked everyone in class to empty their bags to see if the offending item was in there. Everyone did as they were told except one girl who refused to do so. This same girl had been the only left with everyone's belongings whilst they were at PE as she couldnt participate for some reason. My daughter thought it was very unfair that this girl refused to co-operate and to add insult to injury could clearly see that this girl had the item in her bag. The teacher refused to take it further and my daughter was told to be quiet. At home time she approached the girl and asked her to check her bag, she wouldnt of course and through utter frustration, my daughter whacked her one. Guess who ended up getting punished? Following on from the incident which could have easily been sorted by the teacher we were subjected to weeks of offending mystery phone calls, which we got the police involved in and they (although we didnt suspect for one minute) discovered it was this sweet little nine year old who was to blameand she and her family were actually already known to them. Thieving, lying, and offensive phone calls at that age, wonder what she is up to now? The school staff are just not interested in sorting out what they perceive as petty theft but the bigger picture is that it is just the tip of the iceberg of their real offending, and its that which we should be worrying about and tackling. -
Does anyone remember? (shoe shop on fargate)
Mrs H Solo replied to wickedwitch's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
It will possibly go on forever as nobody appears to have the correct answer. -
Does anyone remember? (shoe shop on fargate)
Mrs H Solo replied to wickedwitch's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
when you have all sorted out what shop it is, can anyone recall how much on average you would pay for a pair of ladies shoes, circa 1973? Nice shoes, that is. -

Dog Poo every morning outside my house
Mrs H Solo replied to Kier Sheff's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I experienced this situation many years ago, the dog next door was the culprit, and the first time I entered the house I had accidentally trod in it and trailed it without noticing in every room of the house before I smelt something foul! However, that was the luckiest house I have ever lived in! I mean we were very lucky when we lived there! -
Arbourthorne masterplan demolition of houses?
Mrs H Solo replied to lazy gator's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Lets hope that it does get sorted soon, it does appear to be a long running saga, and that whatever replaces them, lasts longer. I remember the prefabs that were there before and they probably lasted longer! -
Advice sought re: medical negligence
Mrs H Solo replied to storminatcup's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
My advice comes from personal experience of medical neglect. It too wasnt about compensation, but accountability and learnings. Dont get your hopes up on any level. The medical profession know how to manipulate situations. My case was clear neglect, the 8 pertinent points were answered with unbelievable arrogance, much like the arrogance experienced when dealing face to face with these surgeons and specialists. They twisted my words, missed my point and I was left feeling generally let down. However, I could have taken the complaint to the next stage but felt that as I was still alive, why should I waste my precious time on these people, who, it is very difficult indeed to pin down to say 'sorry, I was wrong, I didnt listen to the patient, I made the wrong decision'. Its all I wanted. -
Are you doing anything to celebrate the Royal Wedding?
Mrs H Solo replied to rachvog's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Bacon and brie croissants with bucks fizz, feet up in dressing gown, until lunch. Thank you for the day off. -
Working for a Trade Union, queries around bank holiday and public holidays are the most FAQ. People should really check with their employers, as it will vary. I have fantastic t and c's so I will be enjoying a lovely long 4 day break. Cheers.

WARNING - Lloyds TSB - Account reactivation
Mrs H Solo replied to Phili Buster's topic in General Discussions
I have been into Lloyds this morning to pay in a cheque for a susbstantial amount to be asked by the cashier, how long that money intends to be in my current account? I said not long as it is for a car deposit, however, I didnt even like giving that info. The cashier went onto say, that with there being so much fraud around they dont advise keeping large amounts of money in your account! Unbelievable. Perhaps I will keep it under my mattress from now on then. -
Which pub had the best jukebox
Mrs H Solo replied to FATBLOBBY's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
The little Three Tuns used to be a good one. I remember it had J'taime on, and someone was overheard saying, "I love that Jet Amy".
