  1. Could someone please tell me how to waterproof a knitted item. A friend of mine wants to make an outdoor installation/sculpture that will include some knitted parts to it. I seem to remember talking to a girl who made baby leggings to go over nappies and I think she said she washed them in lanolin but can't be sure. Any advice gratefully received.
  2. Thought I'd post a little note from deepest Newcastle........sorry for not replying to texts etc. Been lovely to receive them but have run out of credit on phone till tomorrow (no broadband till week on wed! it's like living in the wilderness). All is fine tho' missing my sheffield friends. Joe starts work tomorrow so i need to get myself organised with knitting, cake baking etc. I have decided to put the white summer top on hold given its rained every day since we arrived! Will finish Joe's tank top and then perhaps go onto the nativity figures......start early so i get a few done for christmas. love CW xxxx
  3. What's entrelac when its at home?? Am v impressed with the online tutoring and rescue service provided by the more accomplished members of the forum - myself excluded!
  4. Hi, I can't I'm afraid...will be having to dedicate all my time to sorting, packing and last minute rush before heading north x
  5. I need help with my socks...or rather one sock. I'll be asking for the next installment of destructions Wheezy!
  6. Popped along for a knit, chat - and found some fab wool in the sale......getting my stash stocked for the move to Newcastle. There really is only one shop to visit. Jill has assured me Newcaslte will be no problem as she already deals with international customers.
  7. Hello.....heard about this site today. What a good idea. Nothing interesting to say at mo...think I'm all talked out having spent the morning with Jill, Mrs Radish and Wheezy in the Woolbaa! Pleased to hear you feeling better Little Blue. Hope exams going ok.
  8. Sorry can't make it as cooking for friends. Actually turned up last week ( without checking forum) ....was most disappointed to find a dark shop and no lovely knitters! Am still on with my tank top for hubbie. Struggling with the collar/rib edging as seems to be impossible to pick up number of stiches suggested. I did the smaller size in the hope I could get away with it. Unfortunately all that happened was the hole was too small for his head and the top was puckereed around neck. Hey ho will need to unpick and start again. Have a good meet. Hope to come next time. Ruth Ps Ta to Caroline (the wool spinner) for book. Loved it. As I don't know your nick name can you email me so I can return it.
  9. Will set to it Jill! The oven is warming. Ah yes the Nativity...I did knit the donkey, half and Mary and Joseph but afraid that's where it got to so further pressies had to be bought for my sister in compensation for the lack of home knit figures. Here's to next Xmas. Hopefully I'll be more successful in 2009
  10. Yes. I'm now on with a sleeveless tank top for my fella, in keeping with the current 80's look. He's a bit apprehensive about the whole home knit thing so I have o raise my game ....may be paying you a visit Jill for advice on sewing up......to ensure a quality job! What are you knitting Wheezy? Have missed seeing you
  11. Hi everyone, I have missed the chat on forum. as a relatively new user and less experienced knitter I haven't felt I had much to post up. However, the Forum really helped me when I was getting stuck with my knitting. For me, there is an issue with the use of made-up names (I bought into to at the suggestion of other users). It's hard enough to remember everyone's 'real' name. I can understand the logic behind changing name for internet use but I quite like to know who I'm 'talking to'. What does everyone else think?
  12. Happy Birthday........think this calls for a cake (especially as the cake baking has been rather non-existent in recent months). Any requests Jill??? Thank you for opening such a welcoming and friendly shop. My knitting has come on leaps and bounds with your patient support (i'm thinking of the red bolero that almost never was)
  13. Yes, I'll be there. I'm on with knitting a nativity set for my sister.....I need wool for the donkey's feet and nose.....and then there's mary and joseph! The last project (purple cardi) now complete. It's so warm and cosy. I feel on a roll with the old knitting now. Look forward to next meet. Seems ages since I've been. love Cake woman (will try to bake tho' bathroom refit and chaos may win out)
  14. Hi, Bought a lovely knitting book with instructions to make Nativity. Began with donkey and having got to row 3 have come to an abrupt halt..... Does anyone know what the following means: Inc once in each of first 4 sts, K2, incr once in each of next 8 sts, K2, inc once in last 4 sts (36 sts - increased by 16 sts). I wondered if it meant I have to inc and then knit into the back of stitch- is that right? Thanks in anticipation to all those more knowledgeable in tha art of knitting R x
