  1. The next meeting of the movie group will be on Wednesday 27th May at 8.30pm to see Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, which is a silent movie and will be accompanied by a live band. The film's less than an hour long so we should have time for a brief discussion after it. p.s. come and find us on facebook, too!
  2. I think the general consensus was that we liked it and thought it was well-written. We wondered whether he'd have been so honest if he'd known he would end up running for President! Anastacia wasn't so keen but hadn't read it all and now plans to go back to it. What did you think?
  3. I'm bespectacled too! But you don't have to wear glasses to be our friend.
  4. Yes; Yes; Ben & Jerry's; Dunno how much; meeting at about 6.05pm by the box office at the Showroom cinema.
  5. I don't mind if we see "Knife in the Water" - what does anyone else think?
  6. Hm. Is anything on at that time? Or do we choose a different date or (shock!) a different cinema?
  7. May be worth mentioning that Cabinet of Dr Caligari is on Wed 27th May at 20:30.
  8. Great I got a bit ahead of myself and finished it ages ago, but had my memory refreshed by listening to a bit of pb63's audio book.
  9. I'm happy to see that. Does that make it a group meet?
  10. Is everyone ready for Wednesday's meeting, then?
  11. I wish you'd thought of such in-depth and justified things to say during the discussion, Ron!
  12. That was pretty much what I thought - and I actively liked all the deliberately Flemingy touches. For example, I know Sebastian Faulkes can do very emotive descriptions with lots of metaphor, but here he deliberately kept the descriptions very factual and surface-level, in order to be more like Fleming.
  13. We confirmed last night that the May meeting will be on Weds 13th May, discussing Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama. June's meeting will be on Weds 10th June, and we agreed on Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. In a stroke of luck, I got home and discovered my housemate's reading it at the moment, so I'll be able to borrow his copy. Of the four of us last night, there was an even split for/against Devil May Care. What did anyone else think?
  14. Both April's and May's books are pretty easy reading - I'm sure you'll manage!
  15. I don't think we did set a date - but four weeks from the April meeting will be 13th May. Does that suit everyone? I'm very smug - I've already started on the May book!
  16. I think we said the next meeting wold be to see In The Loop on 20th April. I've created a group on Facebook, now - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=70988824858&ref=mf
  17. Right, if no-one else is going to make a decision, I propose that we see Age of Stupid on Monday at 6.20. I'll communicate by other means with those of you with whom that's possible - I think most of us just hardly ever look at the forum now.
  18. Mondays are particularly good for me. Either of these options would be fine with me: I would try to see Age of Stupid anyway, if we don't see it as a group.
  19. It's OK, we didn't carry on very much longer after you'd left. It was nice to have you with us!
  20. We decided last night that the next meeting will be on Wednesday 15th April, to discuss Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks. I returned a copy to Central library last night, so you lot can make a mad dash for it now. May's book will be Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama. Thanks for a good discussion last night. I will be reading some of the stories again at some point.
  21. For a change, I've read this month's book and half of next month's! See at least some of you on Wednesday.
  22. I can't make it on Monday, and I know Code13 can't either, but we won't be offended if the rest of you go!
  23. We meet at about 7.30 (and the discussion usually starts around - at the big table in the conservatory. Edit: Blooming automatic smilies! That was supposed to say "the discussion usually starts around 8"!
