  1. Former members of Herdings Youth Centre will be saddened to hear of the passing of Betty Clayton, a long time member of the youth work staff. Betty was a great youth worker and friend to many young people over the years, and will I am sure be remembered for many wonderful times spent with her both at the Club and on the many trips she was involved with. ---------- Post added 27-04-2015 at 20:10 ---------- Just heard that the funeral service for Betty will be on Tuesday 5th May at 12 o clock at Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium. All ex members from Herdings Youth Centre who have happy memories of Betty are welcome at the service.

  4. Remember a place in the nearly 70's opposite Church House, I think its St James Street near to the cathedral. downstairs, called Some Kinda Mushroom, all 2nd hand L.P's if I remember, lots of Ravi Shankar albums!, the owner was a guy with long hair (What a surprise!)
  5. As the flats had deteriorated over a few years, they decided to renovate them and hand them over to a housing association, the plan was to demolish one block, and on the cleared site and down the drive to Raeburn Road, to build low rise housing, but it never happened, think they ran out of money,so they demolished the one block ,renovated the other two and let them to people 50 plus, not sure if that is still the housing policy for the flats.
  6. Only just seen your post, if you aint found out about Pebley yet. Day tickets on the bank, night fishing is for season ticket holders only. Bailiff can give you details
  7. bent as a NINE bob not, thats what makes it bent. A ten bob note is as it should be.
  8. Should have read "do NOT like" the idea of people challenging their policies! Its my age you know!
  9. Hey Wallbuilder, sounds like you were talking to the same person! Both the person on the telephone that I spoke to, and the email replies that I got from head office had the same attitude, defence!, THey certainly do like the idea of people challenging their store policies. They showed a complete lack of understanding of the nature of the provision of equal access for their customers. I appreciate that they need to monitor the use of their wheelchairs, especially if some have gone missing, but as I said in my earlier post it is relatively simple to keep tabs on any item in store, they do it with booze. Also there is also a lack of consistency in their policy about wheelchair use, as neither Sainsburys Tapton Lock Chesterfield branch or Dronfield branch require any deposit.
  10. I guess its like most of these places where people have access problems, make it difficult enough, but probably within the law, and they get the result they want, people dont go there and find somewhere else and the problem is solved for the shop.
  11. Sainsburys Archer Road charge a £20 deposit for use of store wheelchairs, and to find this out any potential user has to first of all get to the customer services counter in the store, a bit of a hike from the car park.I wrote and asked what would happen if a customer arrived and did not have the £20, I was told that in that case it would be a decision for the store manager, all just to get in to the store to do your shopping! The elderley friend I took there recently and I now shop elsewhere. The store staff told me they had introduced the charge as some wheelchairs had gone missing, I asked why they never charged all their customers a deposit before shopping there, as they, like all stores have shoplifters on a daily basis! I gave the Archer Road staff my Nectar card and told them they could use the balance on it to put towards their wheelchair fund as they are clearly in such dire financial trouble. A simple tagging system on their wheeelchairs would alert staff to inapproprite users of wheelchairs and could be mo nitored by their security staff, they do it on clothing and booze. Sainsburys need to do some work on the nature of discrimination ,and the provision of equal access for all.
  12. It certainly is!! and I still go there, even now, although not a lot of tench there anymore.going pike fishing there next week.
