Poppi has returned home as if nothing ever happened. Thanks to all for keeping an eye out for her. Poppi is a small calico cat (white, black and ginger), she has no tail, so it's quite distinctive. She went out at 9pm on Wednesday 19th Oct and hasn't been seen since. She tends to stay around the Ochre Dyke Lane area of S20, between the Crystal Peaks bus station and Moss Way police station/Asda and surrounding area. She is chipped, so if you find her, take her to a vet and they will be able scan her for our contact details. Alternatively, any info that may help us find her, can be sent via PM on here. Sounds to me like it's nothing to do with your boiler if the water is hot at the taps. I've got a thermostatic shower valve (gravity fed) and I'm having the same issue, I've ended up ordering a new thermostatic cartridge (£115) for mine. I live in S20 next to Peaks and could may be call in and take a look for you on Friday afternoon if your not sorted by then.

Is that when you're in Safe mode ?

Just a thought. Have you tried resetting IE ? Goto tools, internet options, advanced tab and at the bottom there's a reset button. Click that and put a tick in delete personal settings. It will get rid of all your cookies, passwords, favourites, history, etc, etc. See if that gets you online.

Still no joy, even in safe mode ?? Can you get to your routers web interface through IE ? Open IE and type 192.168.?.? (replacing ? with the correct numbers for your router) and hit Enter

Ethernet cable from router to LAN port on laptop will give you a wired connection. Once in sfae mode with networking, your laptop should get given an IP address by your router, once it has an IP address, you should be able to get online.

Were you trying it wired or wireless in safe mode ? Try it wired

Have you tried starting the laptop in Safe Mode with Networking ? Press F8 at start up until you get a black screen with white text, it will offer you Start Windows Normally, Last Good Config, etc, etc. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. Once into Windows, try IE, but only to somewhere safe (ie Google, BBC, etc) If it works, it sounds like you've got a nasty on your system. I'd say there was very little anyone could do to help you by posting on SF. It would need to be looked at properly. I've just had to re-install an XP laptop from scratch because it got nasty on it that redirected web searches from popular search engines. I had 17 hours of trying to get rid of the virus, but eventually had to give in to it and start over.
