Did you work at ESC Brightside in the late 50's
eagleweb replied to Sparkytom's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
Great John, if you'd like to email me at concordcarpets@gmail.com I can send you them. I cant work out how to attach them to this post I'm afraid. Ps. Amazing that the open hearth furnaces were still in use when you were there. ---------- Post added 16-11-2017 at 11:50 ---------- -
Did you work at ESC Brightside in the late 50's

There was a verbal contract, so I m sure I'm sure you'd have some muscle legally, if it went that far. How about mentioning you are considering going to the Star and Trading standards? The threat of having your companys' name slurred might have an effect? I have a small carpet firm, and rarely would I want more than a deposit on a job, for which I would always issue a receipt or pre-invoice. The carpet trade is so very seasonal, there are weeks, months even of little or no work and then all of a sudden, especially like pre-xmas, there is more work than one can cope with as everyone wants it doing during the same couple of weeks. Some firms decide to be less than honest in order to grab work, even promising fitting dates they know they wont be able to honor in order to secure the work. If the firm employs fitters, they will no doubt be run ragged trying to get as much completed as is possible. I'm sorry to hear this story. I hope you find a solution.

"Linoleum" as in very, very hard Vinyl flooring, like that put down in hospitals and schools.. yes we can supply and fit this. It depends what you mean by Linoleum really.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linoleum Mostly people go for Vinyl (sometimes called cushion floor) in domestic settings.

Yes, in most cases much cheaper, but the floor you are laying the lino onto would need to be very level, plywood costs about £50 plus a bit of labour to make it level, lino from about £100, and fitting about £50. 07763863255

Yes eightlegger, Dr Hudson lived there. My grandparents first house was next door, it must have been in the 1930's as my dad remembers riding on a horse drawn cart with my grandad, with all their furniture and belongings, from Pitsmoor to the house opposite deep lane. Dr Hudson probably saved my grandads' life in actual fact.

With regard to one name mentioned, Hudson. Going back to the post war period, my Grandfather Daniel Webb (who had the Newsagents at the top of the hill near the working mens club on Bellhouse road) was good friends with a Dr Hudson, they were both avid pidgeon fanciers. I dont know if this is of the same family name of Hudson that you mention.
