  1. seems fine to me, then again I only use Sheffield weekly ticket for £10 - so no change there....still better value than worsts' £16 per week ticket!
  2. "Heh, it's ASDA, do you really expect service? And you won't get apologies from the store as "Sorry" is not in an ASDA store manager's vocabulary." Yes, this is the point - that upon having a serious problem with the order, Asda made out like it was MY fault! Yes, I've got nothing better to do than shop online, fill up a basket full of items, give out my credit card details, only to send the driver to a phantom address. The response was "Well, don't know what to tell ya love, we were there...." If I had'nt rang the store, no-one would have contacted me. Maybe Mathom's right - we are talking about Asda here, maybe you get what you pay for - i.e. cheapest isn't always the best.
  3. I have a Dell Inspiron 530 and Vista - I've got a hibernate shortcut that I use to send the PC into a very low power state. This function has worked just fine on many occasions, yet recently when I hibernate the PC switches itself back on again! It does this about 1 min after hibernating, then it will stay on for 5 mins, go to 'sleep' (which is what it's set to do) and then switches on again! I've tried closing all open programmes and it still does it. it's a mystry to me!
  4. Yeah I should complain but probably not worth the effort. On the phone to the guy who supposedly came out the the 'wrong address' and dialled the 'wrong phone number' and 'rang the the buzzer at the wrong address' and 'left a note' at the worng address, I feel like it would be a wasted effort! It was like he was saying the sky is green and I was syaing it was blue - the argument just went nowhere, I said "well I want to cancel this order because today has been a total waste of time" he said "well, it's already been cancelled love" - yeah great! That's what I call customer service! I would like to try home delivery - as I don't have a car I think it'd be great for all that heavy stuff - I'll give Tescos a go, see how that is. "I know someone who got Kiki Shoe Polish because they'd sold out of Kiwi Fruit. Can you beat that? " LOL!!!!
  5. I placed an order for Asda home delivery of groceries, they were meant to be delivered to my flat between 2-4pm today. No driver showed up, so I rang the 0845 no. and the lady said that she'd contact the store and that my order was OK. So, 1 hour later and still no response from Asda at Handsworth. So, I rang the store and they said that a driver had already been out and that no-one was home! I was, I'd been here all day!! They said they rang the buzzer twice and rang my mobile and left a note through the letterbox at the entrance to the flats. Well, there were no missed calls on my phone, no note downstairs and no-one rang the buzzer-MY GOD!! What the hell are they playing at. I talked to the guy who was supposedly delivering the goods and he swore blind that they were here and all of the above was true. Im soooooo annoyed , i've now cancelled the order and im baffled as to what in earth went on. Perhaps they went to deliver to a parallel universe! GGrrrr I just wanted to rant Anyone else had any joy with ASDA?
  6. thanks, I think I'll give oovoo a try it looks pretty good! I haven't downloaded any updates for WLM - in fact I went and uninstalled it today so bye, bye WLM for now. I'll have to wait till later to actually try Oovoo, but Terminator, why is Oovoo so much better than WLM and the like? Just curious?!
  7. Hello, I have been using windows live messenger for a few months now to use for webcam chats to my friend the the US. I've got Vista and my friend has XP. We were able to communicate Ok until recently when the quality of the video went downhill - keeps freezing up and crashing for no reason. Now we can go online and see each other, but cannot hear each other. I've tested my microphone which is working OK. I think maybe I need to install a different version of WLM? Can anyone advise? I've googled the problem and it seems that Vista has had problems with WLM, but I'm not sure exactly whether they pertain to me - im not that technical Can anyone recommend a messenger service that we both could use? And which version. Many many thanks!
  8. There's a large derelict house next to St Catherine's church right on Burngreave Rd. If you're looking at the front of the church its up on the left hand side. I bet it was a beautiful property in its day - big detached victorian looking house. Doesn't look as if anyone lives there - roof has holes in and windows are broken out, shame really! Good luck!
  9. I was in Sheff city centre on Saturday and picked up an E-0n power sown device for just £1 (on Fargate). The lady at the stand said that when you're PC goes into sleep mode - the device stops the PC and any peripherals attached to it from consuming electricity - as if it were switched off. It says it's supposed to be plugged in to the mains wall socket, I have to plug mine into an extension strip (as there is wall socket close enough), so I'm not even sure if it will be working?! Has anyone tried one of these?
  10. I've written quite a bit of info on my site here:- http://www.best-orlando-getaways.com There's in depth info on Sea World and Universal, the rides the shows in particular - loads of photos....still a WIP, but definately worth a look. I'd recommend both Universal parks and Sea World, Busch Gardens is just outside Tampa, it'll take you about 1.5 hrs to drive. There's also a Orlando Science museum, Wonder Works interactive kids centre and there's always the Space centre for a day away from the theme parks! - it'll take about 1.5 hours drive.
  11. After reading this great thread I've now switched from Npower (boo hiss!) to E-On saving almost £200/year. I was just going to stick with Npower as I thought it might be too much hassle to switch, but no, it wasn't at all. Used energyhelpine.com and switched! If you look at Martin's money saving expert site - he now has the GREEN LIGHT to shop around and switch. I think the electric is the same no matter what provider you use, so why pay more, especially to NPower who triggered this whole flurry of price rises! Congratulations Npower, you just lost a customer...may many more people follow suit - let the revolt begin! LOL
  12. I agree the city centre is often clogged up with parked buses, both First and Stagecoach types. I was on an 88 going along Leopold St and there were several buses parked at the 'Zaavi' stop. Our bus stopped and filled up with a lot of passengers to the point of bursting. During this another 88 went sailing by practically empty! Our bus even left people who couldn't get on at the stop. I don't see why buses have to wait at stops around town especially Leopold St, Arundle gate and High St if they are meant to 'run to time' why cant they just stop at the end of the route, and let's face it, do they ever run to time anyway. This practice of parking at stops with engines running not only clogs up the city street during busy periods, but also makes it dangerous and irritating for waiting passengers to flag down passing buses - as the OP stated - for elderly and disbled people, this is especially dangerous.
  13. I would also like to know if there may be a non-snooty hairdresser in the S11 area or city centre. I rang up Kandi Hair, The Hair Salon, Capelli and 284 for prices for a trim - they were all between £26 and £40!! I have to say I was a bit taken aback - I mean that price just for a trim. All I need is a couple of inches off the bottom of my hair - it's ridiculous. I dont require anything fancy - just a basic woman's trim - 2 ins off the bottom, that's it. I do realise that the Eccy Rd area is rather trendy and thus expensive - is there anything for around £20 or (preferably) less, without resorting to an 'old lady' salon, lol. Or should I keep on dreamin.....
  14. Thats close to where I live - I'll give it a go. Do you know how much it is per class? - thanks!
  15. ..does anyone know of any fitness classes/aerobics in the eccy rd area or hunters bar? I thought I saw a post about one at the church on Brocco Bank near Hunters Bar but can't find it. Evenings would be preferable - im aware of some at the Collegiate Crescent campus - are there any others around? Ta very much!
  16. What words and phrases really annoy you? A few of mine include:- - At the end of the day... - Brainstorming and other management jargon like thinking outside the box. - the word quoshed - I dont know why but it really annoys me and Ive only ever heard it on the news, as in 'his conviction was quoshed' - I think maybe it sounds too much like squashed! Its a word no one evers says in conversation. - over use of the word 'like'. There's a Pizza Hut advert on at the moment where the woman says 'maybe we'll buy her some like gloves' ???!!! So, what you rather not hear again in 2008?
  17. i used to think Bench was quite trendy/sporty and not 'chavvy'.......maybe the times have changed. Its quite pricey tho - Isnt Henry Lloyd supposed to be a but chavvy - even thought their stuff is by no means reasonably priced?
  18. so possibly ........... chavs = yobbish, tracksuit wearing, gold chains wearing, burberry clad lads/kappa slapper women (with obligatory 3 kids in tow) townies = wanna be gansters?
  19. This may seem strange, but I've recenlty returned from working abroad for 3 years and upon returning have heard people that I used to call 'townies' refered to as Chavs. Me and my mates would always call (certain!) people townies but now the word chav seems to be the norm. Where did chav come from? Perhaps the Little Britain sketch with the pink tracksuited mum Vicky??
  20. I didn't see all of it. i switched over at the sight of those two men stuffing loads grapes and biscuits into their mouths and the trying to talk - with dribble pouring down their faces - it was disgusting. Who would want to watch that?
  21. I think watching TV online is getting more and more popular, but if you think about it how long can you sit at your computer or sit watching your laptop? I know personally i'd rather watch programmes on my flat screen tv which is a few times bigger than my PC screen. I think if anything, there will be more stuff to watch via TV in the future. In the paper the other day it was saying that the BBC were in the process of compliling archives of programmes available for people to watch for free/or some programmes for a small fee on their TV sets. Now that would be cool!
  22. I wonder how them factory girls earn enough money to 'go over't Rovers' every single lunch time and night for drinks - must pay a lot of money?! Or everyone esle in the street for that matter.
  23. Yes Christopher Biggins was brilliant last night - doing the challenge and winning some stars for the group, unlike Janice who wimped out of most of them - saying "well, I don't care if I don't eat" thats nice - and what about everyone else?! She wouldn'y even put her hand in a box of rats to get a star - not all that difficult in comparison to the box of spiders that she did stick her head into (maybe its just me - I'd take rats any day over spiders!) Lynne's weird dancing was soooooo funney! LOL now i know why they call her the real life Eddie from Ab Fab - Seeing all the other camp members try and stifle their laughter was hilarious. She says - and finally "the rhythem of stillness"....err isn't stillness being still and not rhythmic? LOL Even though there aren't that many big names this year, I'll still watch as it seems amusing and entertaining - and Ant and Dec do a great job at presenting, and taking the mick out of the contestants. I'll watch this, unlike Big Brother where nowt interesting has happened in 3 years.
  24. What about David Gray - that song babylon is awful - his voice makes me cringe.
  25. Hey all I don’t know if I’m the only one who’s experiencing this at my workplace but basically I’m getting sick and tired of putting in money for one reason or another. For instance, we all put in a pound when its someone’s birthday which at this rate seems to be once a week. Put in a pound every Friday for casual Friday – the money goes to charity (fair enough I know!) . We’re encouraged to buy raffle tickets every other week or so – yes for charity again so not compulsory. Give money to sponsor someone’s kid to do a fun run, sponsored walk/marathon etc. Give money because somebody had a baby. Out for lunch for someone’s birthday £20 for Secret Santa. 3x Christmas Do’s to go on. I know I might seem tight fisted and maybe I am being, but I am single and live alone and don’t earn a massive salary. I cover all my bills alone and don’t always have money left over for this work stuff. And yes I know that none of this is actually compulsory – but really, if I was to say im sorry I’d rather not do this or that then people would say oh OK, but really word would get round that ‘she’s the tight one’ blah blah blah. Its especially annoying when you don’t even know the person who asking for sponsorship money – ugh! Does anyone else have similar goings on at their workplace? Im sure there must. Sorry if this is a bit of a moan but I just wanted to get it off my chest!
