  1. Could that be the other way up. It's not uncommon to have power points on the outside of work vehicles if they need to do stuff like power tools or lights or such (a feed out rather than a feed in.)
  2. Sometime in the last two or three weeks they had a big conveyor/routing fault at their central hub, so a lot of stuff that was next day had to be delivered the following day as it all went in as 3 working days. Debenhams were the ones who chased it up for me, and they weren't amused either. This isn't limited to local, Huddersfield gets it too.
  3. Will this be the last hurrah for http://www.istheskislopeonfire.com/
  4. I think there's a large amount of truth there. School PE, for me, is one of the two or three most traumatic things I ever went through at that age (and considering one of those was some ******* trying to run me over, that says much.) There are a few things in there I quite enjoyed, and if I could have concentrated on those, I might have come away with a more positive outlook on the whole business. but football, athletics and especially rugby left me with my sole association with them being pain, misery, fear and humiliation. They were never fun to begin with (I wasn't especially good at them) and the fact that the PE teachers tended towards the "getting bullied and beaten up will toughen you up" school of thought just made matters worse. Playing a contact sport with people who legitimately want to hurt you is a subtle form of torture.
  5. Without getting into which side is right: 1) No, its not an election. However, the outright lies and deceit and general incompetence from both camps mean that the original referendum was not based on facts and information that a rational person could have used to determine their options but was instead basically a wooley, naive gut-feel option. The single most important issue ofthe last thirty years was basically decided by an opinion poll. 2) The referendum wasn't actually binding in the first place. Politically bad to ignore, but nothing about the way the referendum was called actaually give it force of law. 3) Farage himself went on record as saying that if remain won by a 52 to 48 margin then it would be hard to consider the matter settled, and implied he'd fight on. Yet when leave won by the same margin, thats an overwhelming majority, shut up and like it. the argument is, I suspect, that the original referendum was hardly an informed chouce due to all the bull**** involved. They want a second referendum to see if people, now the general shape of how things will go is known, don't actually want what's becoming increasingly obvious they'll get.
  6. They do this up in Huddersfield, the results are interesting. Revenues from litter fines are up, but so are complaints of excessive and heavy-handed tactics by the private company involved, like following people around to see if they drop anything, lying about seeing smokers drop butt loudly and publically, the usual crop of "accidentally drop something, but immediately pick it up, and the litter inspectors swoop" and so on. Complaints to the council get told to "complain to the company" who then trot out the usual denials and non-apologies. Which is basically privatised council services all over, really. It works, if all you're interested in is revenue.
  7. Could be worse. The 201 change in the morning (8.25 to 8.29) basically means I'm now always late for work (as a one per hour service, coming from a train, just getting the earlier one doesn't work.) So thanks to the transport people, will now probably have to look for a new job.
  8. I just hope the timing tweaks for the "minor route change" for the 201 and any changes needed to interwork with the 57 don't affect the timings between Chapeltown/Wentworth, it currently being the only way to get to that estate early in the morning if you don't drive.
  9. Moved away from there about 18 months ago, having lived there for nigh on 12 years. In that time, it has slowly gone downhill. Maintenance done, but very much on the cheap. They did replace the entry/intercom system a few years ago, but the work wasn't always well done. How happy you are there will entirely depend on the pot luck of your immediate neighbours. There are some great and wonderful people who live there. There are some of the worst scoundrels unhanged ever. There's no pattern really. Public transport is good as buses and trams are right outside the building. Car parking can be a nightmare at weekends. Getting deliveries can be a pain if you aren't in (no external safe spaces and concierge will not accept parcels.) Some parts do (or did) seem to have the pervading smell of The Herb about them. Again, it comes down to who your neighbours end up being, I think. If TV or internet is your thing, the whole place is wired for Virgin (from the old yorkshire cable days.) Despite everything, it's comparatively safe and secure, most of the trouble-causers are generally kids who come down off the estate at the back. It can be a great place to live, and its certainly significantly better than a lot of the estates around Sheffield. Good luck with your move.
  10. What bothers me is the lack of common sense regardless. If its all a big ol' con, then its daft to even waste time with it. If you believe in it, then by the internal logic, why the heck would you choose to open yourself up to receive anything thats out there with no safeguards? It'd be like dialling a random phone number and giving whoever answered your credit card details just because you "might" get something useful back out. Believe in this stuff or not, it makes no sense to actually do it either way.
  11. There's bits of The Princess Bride scattered throughout the peak district (there are a couple of bits in Cavedale, which comes up out of Castleton.) further afield, AC/DC filmed the video for You Shook me All Night Long in Huddersfield.
  12. Staples had Really Useful Boxes last time I checked. Can't big them up enough, those things do the job perfectly.
  13. Looks like the Worst Bust Company in Yorkshire, Tates, has gone under. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-35534126 If it wasn't for the disruption to services, and the fact that there are/were a few good drivers working for them who don't deserve job losses, I'd say Good Riddance. Crappest Services Ever.
  14. Generally if they're wrapped up/boxed up in the bottom of your bag and you're going directly from one place to the other, you should be fine. I can only echo what everyone else has said. Non-locking, less that 3 inch blade, you can carry without a good reason, as long as you aren't waving it around in a public plkace or walking into a pub/school/football ground with it, it'll be fine. Locking or over 3 inch blade (or other fixed) you can carry with a good reason. Taking a solid knife when you're going hiking or camping would qualify as long as you arent waving it around at the station on your way out. There's also a religious defense if you're one of the religions that are recognised to carry one and you;re on your way to a service/ceremony. The major gotcha is that it is absolutely illegal to carry an item for self defense (as I understand it, this includes sticks too.) If you tell an officer you have a knife or cane for self-defense, they can confiscate it and arrest you (In fact, thats more or less why lock-knives and fixed blades are "good reason only," some bright spark tried to claim he was carrying it for self defensse, and everyone got into a tizzy.)
