  1. Just to clarify in terms of what we actually play. We're going along the lines of Kings of Leon, Bare Naked Ladies, The Coral, Everclear, Foo Fighters, Fuel, Goo Goo Dolls, Greenday, Harvey Danger, Lenny Kravitz, Live, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Reef, Reel Big Fish, Snow Patrol, Sublime, Stroke 9, Tonic, The Verve etc etc. Surely this should give you half an idea about what we're on about. Our sets will have something for everyone in there.
  2. Hi All, We're a drummer, bassist and singer/acoustic guitarist looking for the final nail in our musical coffin. We need a lead guitarist to bring everything together. I call it a lead guitarist but really, strong rhythm is what is really essential. If you can solo as well then we're definitely not going to complain. We don't have gigs yet (because you kind of need the guitarist for that bit) but we've got extremely strong contacts and will be doing paid gigs as soon as we're up and running. By the way, we're completely selling out and doing covers. Anything that's gonna please the crowd but we're looking at mainly rock and pub music. Whatever keeps the crowd entertained. If you're at all interested, drop me a line or point me in the direction of your website so I can hear some of your stuff. Cheers Chris
  3. You've got me intrigued. Send me some details and I'll see about meeting up. I'm overseas this week but I'm back the follow week if you wanna meet up :-)
  4. I'm looking for a violin or cello player (or both if you're feeling clever) to start something slightly different. I'm an acoustic guitarist and singer with some of my own stuff already written and I'm looking to add strings to the music. Don't know where it's leading at this point but would like to find someone, have a jam, see how well we gel and how well we can make it work. Could lead to gigs, recording etc. but just looking to find someone to start with. How you want to play your part is totally up to you. Ideally you'd get a feel for the music and put your own spin on the violin/cello part. Send me a PM if you're interested. Cheers!
  5. Oh, I'm also an acoustic guitarist if that sweetens the deal at all???
  6. Male vocalist here if you want one. Can hold my own up front and your kinda music slots in extremely well with my style. Shoot me a PM if you're still looking.
  7. Sunday afternoons West Street Live have started it up again. Dunno if last Sunday was a one-off though...
  8. Are you called the Hold 'ems, Touch 'ems and Squeeze 'ems? Sorry, it's a Scrubs joke that you could never ever use in any scenario other than a Journey Tribute Band...
  9. Cheers. That's a good start but I was also hoping to hear from someone who actually does it or knows someone who does.
  10. Hi All, Just a shout out to any of the buskers (of friends of buskers) that do Division Street on a Friday and Saturday night. Just wanted to know what the story was with being allowed to do it? I know that technically, you're meant to pay a £10 deposit with council, use their 'busking mat' and only play between 10am and 6pm, but the guys on Division Street seem to get away with it despite the presence of police (and maybe City Ambassadors if my drunken memory serves ). Any advice would be extremely well received cos I'm keen to hit the street and have a hit around on the guitar for a couple of hours. It's more a drinking deterrent than anything else. If I'm playing guitar, I'm not spending what little money I have Cheers
  11. Hi All, As you may or may not be aware, the Goo Goo Dolls and Ben Folds are playing at the Carling Academy on consecutive nights (7th and 8th of July). I know people who are going to Ben Folds (£23.50) but don't know anyone whose going to Goo Goo Dolls (£19.50). I just wanted to see how much interest they get in Sheffield cos being an Australian, they had a decent fan base in Sydney, but they rarely toured and while I have all their CD's, I never caught them while they were over there and now an exciting opportunity has arisen here. Before anyone has a dig, no, I'm not an employee from Carling Academy nor do I have any association with the Goo Goo Dolls. I'm just a fan who wants to see if there's any other fans out there and whether they wanna meet up for a drink before the event??? Cheers
  12. That doesn't surprise me at all. I'm only after a support role so really, I'm not really there to talk to the big wigs, just someone high enough to put in a good word. Essentially that's all I'm after. Once I've got an interview I'm in the drivers seat. I just need to get there!
  13. It wasn't that I didn't want to try those methods. The problem is that it's not direct enough. When you write to the HR department, there's a very good chance that your CV won't be kept on file let alone looked at. Ringing up is a little more personal, but who do I ask for? HR? They're busy, try again later. So, face to face is the only way. I'm not going to book up a solicitor's (or any member of staff's) time with a a meeting just to see if they've got something available or to think of me when the next vacancy comes up. So, I've gotta do it out of hours when it's a relaxed environment and the conversation is a little more informal. This way I'm not wasting anyone's time, and generally speaking, if the person you're speaking to isn't the right person, they're usually friendly enough to point you in the direction of the person you should be. I would have done it for someone at my old firm given the opportunity. Sadly in almost every business, it's not what you know it's who you know. Half of my major jobs I've gotten haven't been through an interview organised by the HR department or through an agency, it's was through a friend. Plus people are more likely to hire on a recommendation. I'm not saying they can give me a good one based on crap talk in a pub, but it's better than walking into the firm off the street... I'm not saying this is the best method, just a different one.
  14. The plan is to surf the bar and just try and run into the right person/people and strike up a decent conversation and maybe swing it towards my wanting to work there. It'll probably take a couple of attempts but I'm pretty desperate to get back into legal and I'll try anything at this point.
  15. Cheers scottf. And ha ha pretty_big. I'll punch at my weight for the time being. I haven't got lofty expectations or anything. Just gonna see what happens. You don't know if you don't try!
