  1. They all do, to a greater or lesser degree. The lines will never be as sharp after 20 years as they were on the day you had the tattoo done. However, on a big piece it's not so obvious. When it's a small piece, if the lines blur, the chances are they will blur into each other, so you end up with something you can't quite tell what it is. It's not necessarily about washing; it's general wear and tear, how thick the skin is, how your skin ages, how much sun it's exposed to, etc
  2. The lines on tattoos go fuzzy and 'bleed' over time. When you have something really small, like under your wedding ring, you run the risk that the lines will blur and blend into each other, so over time it won't be so clear - and you might not be able to read the letters/date by the time you get to your 50th anniversary
  3. Feline on Hickmott Road (just off Ecclesall Road) have all the usual books you'd expect, but I went in with a few pictures and ideas for inspiration - I didn't want exactly what I'd brought with me, but had a chat with the artist and then left him to scratch his head and draw something up for me. When I went back for my appointment what he'd drawn was perfect. I couldn't have come up with the design myself, but loved it. You need to go somewhere with artists, who can design and draw, not just copy stencils off the wall and colour in between the lines! Take a bit of reference material with you, if you can, just as a starting point.
  4. I just give them a short blast in a hot pan - enough to brown the skins slightly but they don't need to be cooked all the way through - then they go in the pot with the rest of the stuff.
  5. It used to be up 12 bags, and in theory, you could call for a collection as often as you like. I can easily generate 12 bags a month. Come autumn (I live opposite a woods) I can generate that much in an afternoon! Rest has to go in the black bin, I guess. Issue I have is that I'm told they must be visible from the road, ie they can be seen without them getting out of the truck. I can put them in my front 'yard' but unless they're looking, they won't see them. I've tried explaining that the only option is then to put them out on the pavement, but there's only pavement on one side of my road, and it's already very narrow, so I will block the street for pedestrians, pushchairs etc. They were not too interested in what my options might be - perhaps i could make a giant sign saying "Garden Sacks Here!" and display it at the gate....
  6. Good curry if you cut the beets into matchsticks first (wear rubber gloves!) and cook in coconut milk. Making me hungry just thinking about it, and I've only just had me breakfast!
  7. put in a sauce that's slightly acidic/sharp, like something with tomatoes, and it manages the sliminess well. I like to make a curry with okra - top and tail them, then fry them whole before they go in the pot. No slime
  8. I've never had a problem using the instant yeast. I got my first breadmaker as a gift a few years ago, and have never bought a loaf since! I've since 'upgraded' my machine, as i became aware of other functions that I would have found useful. I actually prefer the texture of the fastbake option - you have to adjust the amount of yeast etc. So long as you follow the recipes tht come with your machine (at least until you get the hang of it) I've only ever had problems when I've forgotten to put the kneading blade in...
  9. The first couple of shows for each new production at the Crucible are at 'Preview' prices - often much cheaper than the main run. For example, Othello, which is starting in September, will be as much as £25 a ticket, but if you can get organised and plan ahead, the preview tickets are just £12. It's the complete production (you'd never spot the difference!) except you'd get it half price!

  11. I actually finished it with some time to spare! It was a long time since I'd read it before, looking forward to hearing what everyone else thought.
  12. Although I've not been, I've been recommended the massage at Fitness Club Central, on Surrey Street. You don't have to be a member and it's cheaper than a lot of the more obviously 'commercial' places.
  13. You'll get as many different opinions as posts on this thread. One person's "quiet and peaceful" is another's "dull and boring." All I can suggest is take a few days to come and look around and see what your money will get you in different areas. When I moved here I couldn't get the agents to explain why one house was so much cheaper than another when they all looked so nice on the website. I took a trip, saw the areas, and I quickly got to learn what areas I liked and which weren't for me.
  14. Eek. I've had all the usual painful spots done (feet, inside of upper arm, elbow etc) but the ribs definitely is the winner on pain. Guess it depends how big you're going - I had to admit that I'd had enough and call time on one of the sessions for my ribs and at the time I thought 'never again', but you know how it is...
  15. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, June 29th, if my memory serves, and the book will be George Orwell's 1984. The book for July will be A Quiet Belief In Angels by R J Ellory.
  16. I'm also thinking about joining you for the first time. I've got a copy of the book, although as time marches on I haven't yet got round to starting it! I hope to put this right and see you on the 25th - will you still be in the conservatory? Will you have the book on the table, or will everyone be wearing funny hats, or... how will I recognise you?
  17. That's exactly what I did. Walking was a bit painful, and I got very tired very quickly for quite a while afterwards. Just be patient, but don't stop moving and I hope it will ease up for you soon I have no problems at all with my hip now (although my wrist remains troublesome!) I've never had a problem getting my plate through an airport. I've only ever alerted one metal detector, and a quick flash of the scar was all it took for them to let me go through...
  18. Millhouses Dog Training Club mentions Agility on their website http://www.millhousesdogtraining.co.uk/ Their regular training classes are in a couple of locations - one's Nether Edge, which isn't too far from the city centre, think the other one's fairly easy too? Might be worth a quick phone call to find out.
  19. Has anyone ever successfully fitted one of these? I bought the Streetwize version for my car, and two of us (both very intelligent people, I might add! ) struggled for hours at the weekend, and made no progress at all. Anyone got any tips? Better still, anyone local (S7 or S11) that could be bribed with a couple bottles of wine to do it for me??
  20. Try http://www.boxclever.co.uk They rent nationwide, and you can usually negotiate on price!
  21. I've just acquired my new best friend from the Sheffield RSPCA at Spring Street, and it's just heartbreaking to go down there; I could have adopted several of them! Folks might have the impression that the dogs are all cosy and warm, that it's like a dogs' hotel, but it's just not so - they simply don't have the resources. The dogs are in individual cages, with a little bit of shelter, but they're basically outdoors and exposed to the elements. They're living on cold, wet concrete, with all the horrible wind and rain we've been having lately, and just a plastic bed under a bit of shelter. They're surrounded by other dogs, all making a huge racket because they're so distressed. They're cared for by very kind people while they're there, but they really need a warm home with someone who'll give them the love and care they crave. The dog I have rehomed was found wandering as a stray, with no ID or means of getting him home, and nobody appears to be looking for him, and he's only 4 months old! (He's now snoozing quite happily on a bed under my desk here in the office). Others have simply been dumped at the door by owners who didn't even have the bottle to ring the bell and explain that they couldn't take care of the dog. If you're wanting to get a dog, please take pity on one of the sad inmates at the pound. There were really some fantastic dogs there when I visited, including a tiny puppy, so you're not necessarily going to get an ancient mutt with only three legs and set of behavioural problems! Next time you close the curtains at home and sit on your comfy chair by the fire, remember the poor pooches out in their cages at the pound!
  22. I had some sofa cushions redone by Oakbrook Upholstery (Oakbrook Rd, S11) very quick and reasonably priced - looks like new now!
  23. Same here. I had to send one dish back twice until they got it right. Wagamama's is the same everywhere you go, and it's great. The only drawback IMO is the canteen-style layout, which can make it really noisy. Ok if you just want to eat quickly and get out again, but not for a dinner out. Strada is always good, it's a chain but feels ever-so-slightly smarter. Haven't eaten at the others yet, but no doubt I'll eat my way around the square eventually. At least 2 of the places do offers on cocktails, Mon-Thu, too
