  1. I'm sure that you'd be welcome at any of the above mentioned gyms. There are a few ladies that train at the Forge (including a blue belt).
  2. The Forge is a good bet if you want to improve your BJJ. The main instructor, John, is a brown belt and he certainly knows his stuff. There are plenty of higher grades that attend as well as complete beginners, such as myself. All belts (and stripes) are given by Lagarto (a World Champ) so you know that all promotions are deserved. There are a few guys at the gym that have competed in MMA. EDIT: ^ beat me to it. That's what happens when you stop to eat a pot noodle in the middle of posting a reply.
  3. Hi. I am also a beginner at GB and I echo the sentiments made by Chaz. The level of technical instruction is awesome and everyone is friendly and welcoming. PS. Does the new timetable come into effect this week? I can't make the beginners class on wednesday but I will be able to pop down on thurs. I'm also looking forward to the no gi class. Rabbit.
  4. Is it really necessary to post your info in every MA thread?
  5. There's a gym in walkley that allows PAYG. There are also other options such as paying for a week, month, etc. at a time. Its on Bole Hill Road, S6. Its called the Max Fitness Centre. Tel: 0114 281 2863. I went there until I moved house. It's basic but there's everything you need there.
  6. Worst owls players. top 5: 1. Patrick Blondeau 2. Patrick Blondeau 3. Patrick Blondeau 4. Patrick Blondeau 5. Patrick Blondeau He was about as useful as t**s on a fish.
  7. Shullie. Your verison of events is completely inaccurate. I saw the dog attack in endcliffe park. Its true that the collie did run up to the akita and yes, it should have been on a lead. However, it did NOT attack the akita or act in any way aggressive. It was excited and it wanted to say hello (thats what dogs do). Just 15 minutes previously the collie ran up to my dog and they got on fine. The akita attacked the collie. The man with the akita didnt help matters by just standing there and doing nothing; he made no attempt to restrain his dog and shouted at the bloke who kicked his dog in order to release its grip on the collie. He needs to understand the responsibilities that come with owning such a powerful animal.
  8. Hi. What does a typical beginners class involve and are there any differences between the classes on monday and thursday i.e. more emphasis on technique/conditioning, etc. ? thanks.
  9. Continuing running it the near future will only make it worse. try using an exercise bike while it heals. it will strengthen the muscles and ligaments around the knee joint while the injury heals without placing it under stress (my dads mate, who happens to be an orthopaedic surgeon, was on an exercise bike the day after he ruptured cruciate ligaments. get a physioterrorist referal from your GP and you should get seen pretty quick (in the new outpatient physio centre at the Northern General).
  10. Its no-gi submission fighting from standing to the ground. You cover takedowns, the clinch, and submissions, chokes, positions, etc. They also do some boxing training.
  11. No. It's still run by Peps. I believe that they entered a guy in a recent MMA fight, so i guess it's still going.
  12. Shootfighting: 7.30-9.00 tuesday and friday 393 club, hillsborough.
