  16. This is a true story......'onest One day, circa 1960, a car ran into The Cricket Ball and the driver was taken into Spears H dept office which was next door. The driver was Fred Trueman who was on his way to play for Yorkshire at Bramall Lane. The story spread quickly round the works and I remember going to nosey. That night The Star told the story how the famous Yorkshire bowler had run into " A Cricket Ball"
  17. On the old map. I started work in 1957 and Greystock St was the entrance to Spear and Jackson. It ran for about 200yds into the works and on the LHS was the saw smithers and on the RHS was the Lab and melting shop The Plumpers was the pub used by the men from the melt shop and was known to serve in the middle of the night. On the corner plot no 34 was Jim Sawles sandwich shop,32 was a paper shop and 39 was Peels Butchers Lots of good memories from them days. Jim Sawles "Prem and Picallili" sandwiches were legendary.

  19. Hello John I saw Margaret about 18 months ago in Meadowhall. She had just retired from the flower business. She had handed her stall in Sheffield market over to her daughter when the market moved to the Moor. She looked very well and still lives in Sheffield. I am also in touch with Pam Hill and Joe Cooper. Joe had a stroke about 2 years ago but has recovered very well. Janet
  20. Hi Jean. I think the Hills's live behind the post office across the road from grandad's chip shop. I am in touch with Pam and I will find out when I next see her will be about 2 weeks. Margaret Eades lived two doors up from the shop and the Naylors lived in the same yard next to the entry. Janet
  21. Simon was 50 three weeks ago. We still see Peter Rhodes who lived with his parents at 26 before you moved in. His father was a remarkable man who had lost both his arms from the shoulder sockets in a rolling mill accident at ESC. He still went to work as an internal post man at ESC every day. He used to go for a drink in The Hodgeson where he had a swivel device for holding his pint so that he could drink without anyone's help and also a stand with a clip on it for his ciggie. The poor soul died after being knocked down by a car on the zebra crossing near Dennis's swap shop What was the name of the sweet shop near to Dennis's shop?
  22. Janet lived at 24 Moss St until we got married in 1964 and her parents until they were moved to Longley in the 70's. The chip shop was on from the co op towards Crown Hill about 50 yds.
