  1. I lived there as a kid when I was 2-3 years old.I lived with my nan on Gell Street(or Gell Row?) It was the first block next to Hanover Way and she lived on the bottom so she had a garden at least.I visited alot during the late 70's as a kid,I remember the chippie as my nan always went there. My memories are abit hazy but I remember her flat well going to a nursery around there.
  2. Yeah but I think they said they are heading to Isle of Wight, isn't the ferryport that has boats for there situated near the Gunwharf Quays? I think you need to take the M275 and head into town, towards the Gunwharf. You need the Gunwharf Road, that will take you to the ferryport for Isle of Wight. Its near the centre,in the south west, near to the harbour entrance.
  3. Let me ask my partners dad as me and her dont drive yet.I will post on here and let you know
  4. yeah thats sad news, even I went to Scotts back in the 80's
  5. I never used to go out much to town but when I was back in Sheffield last year,it all seemed abit dead around that area now! All those bars have gone and never been replaced, town didn't seem as lively as it was back in the 80's/90's.There were loads at one time including the beloved Roxy! Is this just my impression or am I wrong, does everyone just go to different areas now?
  6. Yeah I think Sheffield people are friendlier to be honest,my partner is from Pompey and she loved Sheffield when she stayed and liked the people, accent etc. I do love being near the sea, have'nt been to Isle of Wight yet but have been to New Forest.I like it but I have to say its not a patch on the Peak District, maybe I am biased.I think its safe to say we always miss the best the best bits of our home town. The weather is abit better here, agreed.Especially for me as I had lived in Edinburgh and Inverness previous.
  7. It was a girlfriend I met through Facebook that brought me here.Your right, there are worse places to be and I love being near the sea.Do you miss Sheffield at all? I do sometimes.
  8. I moved to Pompey about 7 months ago after moving about abit.Originally from Sheffield.Just wondered about your thoughts on the Pompey?
  9. Wow,surprised anyone replied to this post after all this time!! I left Inverness in Jan. 2008 and now I am residing all of 600 miles further south in Portsmouth, which has better weather(but not sure of the accent though).
  10. I actually lived in them as a kid in the mid 70's.I often wondered why they were only up for maybe a decade or so.
  11. The white and black tower with the clock on high street/church street...whats that called? The old cinema on abbeydale road next to the snooker club could do with being renovated
  12. I understand that the cooling towers are to be demolished(if they have'nt been already)What Sheffield eyesore(besides Park Hill) would you like to see blown to smithereens? Most of them seem to have gone already i.e Kelvin,Norfolk Park, the Eggboxs etc. My personal fave would be Hallamshire Hospital. And one last thing, does anyone remember Broomhall flats(demolished in the mid-80's)?
  13. just curious if anyone had worked in a backpackers hostel like I am doing now and what their experience of working there was like?
  14. I watched 4 months ago on dvd,it took me 23 years to be able to watch it again.I agree it looks dated and the acting was bad but it still had lost none of its impact.
