  1. Good effort Nettie ! I must say I didn't do a lot better - the names were supplied by Les Cusworth . Back from left, Gordon Kay , don't know, Jack Reynolds, Jim Moore, Ken Hanwell, Les Cusworth & Bill Hargreaves ( trainer) ; front from left Terry Wilson, Alan Stanley, Harry Pinhorn ( team captain and dad of Ian), Derek Onions & Charlie Wise. Terry Wilson and Alan Stanley were very well known at Reform Chapel - I remember their families when I was young. John
  2. Hi janie-m, No it must be some one else. My grandma was totally immersed in Reform Chapel. John
  3. Hi Kidorry , I think many of us , when saving from picture sheffield or similar sites find it easier to save the photo than try to save the url for the whole page. Right click on picture, save it to your hard drive ( say your pictures) then upload the photo to photobucket. John
  4. Hi Kidorry, To put a photo on this site you need to : 1) Download it to http://photobucket.com/ - if you are not already on it you will need to register first 2) When its on photobucket put your curser on the photo and you will see a number of boxes appear underneath. One says IMG code at the side of which is a box inside which is IMG in brackets plus other letters; left click on that box and it should turn blue; then right click and copy. 3) Paste the copied code onto your entry on this site. Others will then see your photo. It may seem a bit long winded but its really fairly quick and it works ! Good luck ! John
  5. Hi Kidorry, It requests a password to get in John
  6. Here is a picture (from picturesheffield.com) of Platform 1 at Midland station in 1900 ! I don't think it had changed a great deal by 1950. John
  7. Great work again. You have done better than me! The only names I can add are my wife's best friend who lived at Norton, Margaret Roach (to the right of Val Whiteley smoking ), my grandma Lilian Morris who lived at 43 Rothay Rd is sat next to my mum at the back and Neil Ward is the tall chap on the right. I was surprised that no one tried to put names to the chapel football team I put on the other week. Maybe you all missed it so here it is again. John
  8. Great efforts from The Miller & Nettiej ( despite her lack of age!!). top row left to right Joe Cooper, Barrie Reynolds, Harry Jarvis, John Moore, John Howsam; front left to right Leonard Foster, Ken Morris, Roy Cottam, Geoff Cottam. Some one mentioned Crackerjack the other day . Here's a photo of it in the 1960's. Have a go at some of these names ! John
  9. Here's a photo of lads at Reform Chapel that Nettiej and some others should find interesting . Its about 1959 I think. Who's who?
  10. You must have had a great time in the shows Fleetwood . Can you recognise any people in the Pinafore photo? John
  11. Hi Tonio, I don't know the year of the Pinafore photo or have any list of names. I guess it would be taken between 1935 - 1938. You may be right about Janet's mum - if so its my mum who is stood behind her. My dad is the tall chap in the middle row just to the right of centre holding his hat. Maybe Fleetwood may recognise some people? Cheers, John
  12. Hi Flo, Yes, thats him. My mum ( his sister) and grandma & granddad Mooris lived at 43 Rothay Rd from 1923 when they moved from Sutherland Rd because my granddad got a job at Grimesthorpe Gas Works. 43 Rothay Rd was the middle one of three houses that faced on to Rothay Rd but were accessed from a back yard on bottom of Hawkshead Rd. Here is me with Ken about 1954 Here are my grandma , Grandad , Ken and mum Marjorie about 1925 John
  13. Hi Jean J, Yes, I have found out that Pam Cooper was Pam Hill before she was married to Joe. John
  14. Jean J, Not sure about Pam Cooper's maiden name - it may have been Hill. Will try to find out. John
  15. Hi Cat, Ian Pinhorn was a friend of mine largely because we lived nearby - me at 97 Hinde House Lane - he was around no 121. His dad had been captain of the Reform Chapel football team and I think its because of those contacts Ian went to Reform Chapel. Talking about the Chapel football team here it is about 1950 : front row Terry Wilson, Alan Stanley, Harry Pinhorn, Derek Onions, Charlie Wise; back row Gordon Kay, ?, Jim Moore (my dad), Ken Hanwell, Les Cusworth & Bill Hargreaves (trainer). Charlie Wise was a professional foorballer at Notts County for a short while (reserves I think) and also had trials for Yorkshire at cricket. He apparently gave up his football job because he didn't agree with all the gambling that went on travelling to and from games. John

  17. Sunday school class 1954: On the Sunday School photo are : back row Ian Reynolds (sadly died recently) , Margaret Eades, Michael Moore ( my cousin), Janet Brewin and Barrie Reynolds; on middle row its me (John Moore) on left and Terry Knight on right ( I think !); front row, Ian Pinhorn ( lived above me on Hinde House Lane & his dad was captain of Church football team) , Carol Traunter & David Nile. I am still trying to find my list of people on the BB photo so will post that later! John
  18. Especially for Wigglybus but also for quite a number of other ex-Reform Chapel folk here is some real nostalgia. Photos taken at Reform Chapel dating back quite a while. Les Cusworth , Jim Moore & Ken Morris in show: Jim & Madge Moore: A production of HMS Pinafore: Here's our BB company at Jersey in 1957 Sunday school class 1954: Any offers re names? John
  19. Hi Wigglybus. My mum Marjorie Moore (nee Morris) and Uncle Ken Morris were the children of William & Lilian Morris who you may remember . My dad was Jim Moore. I am their son John. I am sure you will remember Ken Morris from Sunday school etc. Dad was a BB Officer & mum a Life Boy Leader. If you don't want to put your "real" name on here please send me a PM. John
  20. Hi Wigglybus, I was born 1944 & spent a great deal of time at Reform Chapel in Life Boys ( joined about 2 years before The Miller) , BB ( boy & Officer) , Sunday School, Youth Club etc. Also at Grimesthorpe School. You will know my mum and dad, Madge & Jim and Uncle Ken well. Left Sheffield in 1976. Do you know who I am? Out of interest, Mr Yates was BB Captain before Charlie Wise. Miss Lynch died only about a year ago aged about 96 I think. You will remember Janet Brewin from GB I think - her husband Tony comes on this site sometimes. Les & Bessie Cusworth,Renee Marriott , Gordon & Janet Kay & Joe & Pam Cooper all still go to Reform Chapel. Very sad news recently was the death of Ian Reynolds earlier this year. John
  21. Only just come across this thread. Elizabeth Bellamy nee Pigott whose photo is on the account of the Zeppelin bombing was my gt grandma. When she was killed at 43 Writtle St she was actually looking after her granddaughter, my mum Marjorie Morris aged 9 months at the time. My mums parents, William & Lilian Morris lived at 152 Sutherland rd between 1914 & 1924 before moving to 43 Rothay Rd at Grimesthorpe. My dads family also lived in the area. After his wife died in 1900, my gt grandad Henry Watson Moore lived with his daughter Phillis who married Edwin Beeston ; they had a bakers shop at 209/211 Petre St. Grandad Harry Watson Moore lived at 40 Jamaica St when first married in 1914 then moved to no. 38 about 1930 before finally moving to 309 Petre Street. My grandma lived there until the houses were demolished about 1975. John
  22. Maybe you have the school name wrong ? The Hinde House School we know didn't open until 1956.
  23. Hi Gracie, Which Nortcliffe's do you mean? I knew Ernest Nortcliffe who had a son Norman. Ernest was involved in Boys Brigade at Reform Chapel and they moved to Ecclesfield but thats maybe 35 years ago. John
  24. Thanks Kenny, I doubt this can be the right person as the Charlie Wise I know would be playing in the 1930's/40's/maybe 50's. Unfortunately, my job moved from Sheffield in 1976 up to the north east so I only get to Sheffield about once a year for a flying visit. John
  25. Hi Kenny, Can you say what years Charlie was mentioned on Frecheville CC honours board please or anything else about him at that time? I was a lad in the BB company he captained and played cricket in the Grimesthorpe WR Chapel team he captained in the late 50's. I don't know anything about his background in his early years. John
