  1. Hi Runningman, Very true !
  2. Hi Runningman, Keith Pound must be getting on now. Presumably he has retired? Cheers, John
  3. I suspect the Outward Bound style course you refer to was to Hollowford at Castleton which was a joint venture between Sheffield Industrial Mission, Education Authority & Industry I think. I went there for a week in 1961 being sent by English Steel Corp. The Warden was Rev Keith Pound a guitar playing vicar who went on to be Chaplain General to the Prison Service & an honorary Chaplain to the Queen. I remember going climbing on Stanage Edge the climb being Tango Crack. I also remember nearly being blown off Mam Tor in a gust of wind when I was wearing a cycling cape. Thankfully someone grabbed me & pulled me back . I never wore a cycling cape for walking again!!
  4. I was at Hucklow Rd 1955-56 & we had a weeks school trip to Middlekerk in Belgium & visited Brussels & Ghent. Our woodwork teacher George Ridgeway arranged that. I ( & all secondary teachers & pupils from Hucklow Rd) went to Hinde House when it was opened in September 1956-1960 . Remember a school trip to Stratford on Avon to see King Lear & another to see Macbeth. with our English teacher Geoff Hook. Also I think we had a trip to Peter Scott's Nature Reserve at Slimbridge. Anybody else from Hinde House have any memories of those trips?
  5. I was born at Page Hall. It was a really nice neighbourhood in the late 40's, 50's & 60's when I was growing up . When I left school I worked in R& D at English Steel Corporation. In the Welding lab in 1965 onward we had a West Indian named Vernon who worked with us & was our labourer. He was a lovely man who fitted in well . Not certain where he lived but probably Grimesthorpe area. In the 60's & 70's an increasing number of West Indian's lived in Page Hall, Firvale , Grimesthorpe area. From 1970's to 1990 Page Hall was taken over by Muslim incomers who lived in a significant majority of the houses, set up Hallal meat shops & started Mosques. Many elderly people who had lived there for many years (like my mum) felt very uncomfortable because the culture they had lived in for many years had disappeared & they didn't understand the place anymore . Sad.
  6. I have tried sending you message but doesn't work . Please contact me on johnpetermoore@:sky.com John
  7. Unfortunately I cant find a 1939 Register entry for Robert or Annie or a possible death for Robert. Best of luck, John
  8. When & where was Robert born (presumably 2021 will tell you if you dont know otherwise) Knowing that would help to find him in 1939 Register & find an appropriate death for him
  9. We used the Regency quite a lot late 60's early 70's. It was really good for food & very popular.
  10. I think the last buses on a Saturday were 12.15 or 12.30. We used to go to Locarno in early 60's & that finished at midnight I think. We got the bus that went to Sheffield Lane Top.
  11. Did you go to Grimesthorpe school? I was there 1950 to 1955.

  15. In the 1950's I spent all my time after school at Grimesthorpe trainspotting on the wall near Brightside station. Some great named trains including the Thames Clyde express & Devonian !
  16. We went to Pontins at Blackpool late 70's & loved it particularly chalet patrol which meant we could leave kids to sleep while we went out & they never woke up ! Also had a nappy washing service which was great for our 2 very young kids ! Went once to Morecombe which was worse we went to. Then had 3 years at Prestatyn which was the best.
