  1. Cruiser why not take your hot date to an exclusive club in sunny Chapeltown and impress her on the number of people you know, or are you afraid the mature Grimesthorpe people will nick her off you.
  2. Hi cat631 it's time you were in bed, I'm looking forward to meeting up again this Friday. My sister Anne should be in provided the weather is o/k and I have tried to get Margaret to come along but as we have a wedding to attend on Saturday I think she will give it a miss.
  3. Hi lolalola if travelling from the direction of Ecclesfield, the British Legion Club is elevated up on your left hand side just before the railway bridge and therefore before the traffic island. A vehicle repair garage and the club car park is at the side of the club and it is o/k to park on the garage forecourt. If coming from the direction of the M1 turn left at the first traffic island drive under the railway bridge and the club is immediatly on your right hand side after passing under the bridge. DavidRa a uniform is not required unless you want to attend in your romper suit, seriously I think that you will all find that the interior is very clean and pleasant with a mixed crowd of people and reasonabley priced drinks. Looking forward to meeting everyone. A uniform is not required
  4. Hi terryg I look forward to meeting you and everbody else who makes it to the reunion this coming Friday, do hope we have a good turn out. I don't think that you will know me as i'm a little bit younger than you but one of my sisters should be there who is of a similar age ( I think?????) to you. As you have mentioned my brother in your last post maybe you will recognise me, but remember i'm younger and a lot better looking than he his infact you could say I look like a trained athlete (SUMO WRESTLER)
  5. Looks like I missed a good day but thanks Hemlock for the good photo's
  6. I used the dyke in the late sixties early seventies but as the boat was a deep v Dowty with a straight 6 Ford engine stuck in the middle we spent most of thr time getting the thing in and out of the water.
  7. Hi Cat always knew that you had trouble with your eyes by the number of times you fell off your bikes or was that because you were a little mad. See you and everyone else on the 15th just before your birthday.
  8. Cruiser I'm just on my way to Jo's house now, taking Lewis her son home as he calls at our house from school on Wednesdays
  9. Cruiser I'm quite a few years older than you infact I think that Cat and myself are the old gimmers of this site. I will let you into a secret, obviously its for you only, but Cat will be older than me next month.
  10. Steve H Sutherland Road Baths did have a Balcony maybe the Photo was taken before it was fitted. It also had slipper baths on the first floor and these were used as changing areas when any gala's took place as I can remember waiting on the stairs before races. Cruiser if you lived in the house on Wincobank lane with the garage under, I think you know my niece who still lives in the area.
  11. Hi all thanks for making me feel so welcome, I enjoyed every minute of the walk, and will most certainly be coming along on many more walks. I hope everyone got home safe and sound.
  12. LinchpinLulu as this is my first walk with you all i find it awkward to advise but, if anyone takes a dog along with them it is more than advisable to keep them on a lead when we start the climb up after leaving the residential area. A farmer who lives in the area is not very friendly at all if he see's a dog running on his land. I hope people don't mind me mentioning this.
  13. Hi all hope to make this my first walk with you all, but as this is my first walk I don't know if it is o/k to offer people a lift out there, but after you know me anyone may have a lift home. Unless you want to trust an old gimmer like me, if you do just leave a message.
  14. Hi Almac Bob Hill lives just round the corner from me in sunny chapeltown and I see him most days when i set out on my walk with my crazy spaniel dog.
  15. Hi cat the name Fay Sellers does ring a bell in my pork pie brain, I think she was a friend of one of my sisters.
  16. Hi Cat I can remember being on a real scooter with you, for some reason you had borrowed it, I think from Ron Wallace, my main memory is coming down Fence Hill flat out and you shouting because it would not go any faster. Also we were on your Tiger Cub with it's megaphone exhaust, remember the guy in an old Ford van, we were overtaking a line of cars down Barrow Rd area when he turned to the right in front of us, when we stopped all he shouted at us was Wot's your name son Death. One of your other bikes got it's own back on you, when on Cole Bros it kicked you back and broke ?????? your foot or some part of your leg. The small??????? accident you had which always makes me smile involved an old Humber car and indirectly a motor bike, remember a Welch Bobby asking you were's the man on the motor bike, I think you replied it's me you daft bugger. Not many cars could carry a motor bike in the back could they.
  17. Albert I forgot to mention the Isle of Eigg.
  18. Hi Albert the sea eagle is the largest UK bird it has white tail feathers which along with it's size differentiate it from the golden eagle. The osprey is a smaller bird and found mainly around the Loch Garten area to my knowledge. Yes Canna is one of the Inner Hebrides along with Rum and Muck, it is the least populated island with no shops only the tea shop which serves great food when open.
  19. Hi scoobz you can find Puffins at Bempton Cliffs but i'm not sure about Shearwaters, the last place I saw them was on the island of Canna off the west coast of Scotland. Also I photographed the Sea Eagles and Golden Eagles and have a great picture of a Golden Eagle.
  20. janie-m the Krugers did have a daughter called Cathy who ironically now lives in Chapeltown. The name Mark Williamson does ring a bell I believe my niece Joanne knew him and for some reason I think he lived on Winkcobank lane at the very top end just before what I call the new houses.
  21. Nooka you could always use the bucket to carry any crabs you catch with your long handle fishing net.
  22. Hi awoollen when I first got married we lived on Firth Park Cres, Bellhouse Road end, but as you lived on Bevercoates you may have known my in-laws as they ran the Wharncliffe Hotel for many years.
  23. hi skippy I also used to frequent the Wharncliffe Hotel, a little more than most did, but I did marry the landlords daughter, and her aunt ran the Sicey so I also spent a lot of time in there also.
  24. Hi all I have walked from Flamborough lighthouse to the RSPB site at Bempton and back on a couple of times and can recommend it to all especially if you have binocs, to view the bird life. I could take 3 people in the car with me so i will keep a look-out to see if this comes off.
