  2. The UK has 10,000 dairy farms left now & the BBC have said many times 1 farm closes everyday & that the UK imports over 1million litres of milk daily so they do close for sure.Bradfild Brewary farm was a dairy not long ago. No subsidies would be far better & a pint of milk at volvic water prices less hassle for us, but would you want to pay £1.30 a pint ? You wonder how volvic water sells when water out the tap is almost free.
  3. I think you should be able to watch in on BBC iplayer (LookNorth) The Story is about dairy farming, I went down to London on the #SosDairy protest and was interviewed by the BBC, so they wanted to follow up the story. Sheffield University have recently asked us to supply them so they covered that bit in the story, you know carbon foot print, food miles etc etc, oh and the fact they get it the morning its come from our cows was important too :-) We milk our cows process the milk in our own dairy carton it up & deliver it ourselves all in the same morning, so there's some coverage about us calling it #SuperFreshMilk too. Any milk that leaves the farm raw still goes for less than it costs us to produce it but hopefully before Christmas we will be breaking even again, I really feel sorry for dairy farmers who send all their milk away at less than it costs them to produce it which is mainly why I went to London on the protest.
  4. Hi Warrior, sorry I must have missed your email some how :-( sorry. We put a poster up in the ice cream parlour to make sure our regular customers got tickets for the bonfire first, in 4 days it was totally sold out so no need for us to promote it any further ie our website etc. Every penny of the ticket money goes to charity this year its split 50/50 between Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity & Help a Child Have a Chance.
  5. Its on again from 6.30pm tonight BBC1 Look North. #SuperFreshMilk
  6. Holstein, Frisian, Swedish red we breed for healthy feet etc rather than maximum milk production, quality milk, healthy cows.
  7. I did ask if we could advertise on SF & was told it was £800 per month, We have one account (this one) and if I was to advertise anything the moderators would quite rightly remove it. Maybe you should complain to BBC1 we are going to be on again at 6.30pm tonight.
  8. What does it say on the label or whats stamped on the foil lid if its a bottle ?. You can get ours from the Post Card Cafe in Bradfield, We deliver it to them the same morning its come from our cows, you would have to own your own cow to get fresher milk than that !
  9. Subsidies are actually the governments choice as part of the UK's cheap food policy, its so you are able to buy milk for less than bottled water. It would be much better for milk to be 80p - £1.30 for 500ml (1 pint) like bottled water is and not bother with the subsidies.
  10. We have over 60 years experience looking after dairy cows, we don't have a cow man that goes home in an evening we all live on the farm with the cows, even before my dad goes to bed at night he checks on the cows, in 60 years we have never bought any cows in we are a closed heard, We aren't like any other herd thanks ! The Genus herd (based in Crew) cows give twice as much milk as ours but the life of the cows is much shorter, we are at the total other end of the spectrum, health first & foremost. We are accredited & Red Tractor Approved where as some farms don't even meet the approval standards, this specifically regards cow health.
  11. Look at the label on the milk in your local shop that you walk to and tell me the address of the dairy where that milk has come from please, I will then try and find out where that dairy gets its milk from, i think you might be surprised just how far that milk has traveled. example: milk Hillsborough dairy's deliver to the doorsteps of Sheffield homes is actually put in to those glass bottles in Liverpool at a bottling plant but the milk has to travle in arctic tankers from the farm to the plant & then to Sheffield !
  12. Thanks very much we appreciate your support
  13. He sells lots of ice cream & milk & Steve from Moss Valley Fine meats in Sheffield says they are one of the best sausage selling outlets, so someones shopping there !!!
  14. Mega dairy farms are indeed what we are headed towards, the cows are tied up all the time & packed in sheds, they are fed at one side & their muck is cleaned up at the other, this is what happens already in Germany. The milk is cheaper to produce so the farmer makes a profit & the consumer doesn't have to pay more. Folk are already happy to buy danish bacon, from pigs that are in a cage where they can get up & down but not turn around. This is illegal in the UK so we cant produce bacon as cheaply because our government wont let us treat animals this badly. Our Cows are never tied up and spend as much time as they possibly can out in the fields, please come and see for yourselves. (you can support this style of farming by simply buying the milk they produce) Visit our Cows Cliffe House Farm Dungworth Sheffield S6 6GW
  15. They may own lots of land but that's lots of land to maintain, sure they could sell it off for a housing estate and be quids in, but most of the food you eat was grown by a farmer. Small cars aren't much good for pulling cattle boxes etc and don't forget its all on finance. I'm not sure who they vote for makes any difference all party's are happy to import food from animals treated so badly it would be illegal in the UK, that's why danish bacon always cheaper.
  16. They did go bankrupt, in the last 10 years 50% of the UK dairy farms have been lost, nobody noticed because the UK imports 1 million liters of milk each day to make up the short fall. Farmers don't want subsidizing for what they produce but the UK government has always had a cheep food policy, it cant make sense that a pint of bottled water has a higher value than a pint of milk can it ?
  17. Most of them are in a fixed 12 month contract they cant get out of. Imagine the choice, brake your contract & get 0p per liter and let all the milk go down the drain or take 27p and make a small loss.
  18. We went down to London with 1/4 of the country's Dairy Farmers to the #SosDairy, the MP's seem to be chasing a voluntary code of conduct where the supermarkets will choose to pay dairy farmers more so the farmers aren't producing milk for free. It costs dairy farmers 30p to produce 1 Liter of milk. Wairtose pay 31p M&S Pay 33p Everyone else pays less than it actually costs the farmers to produce the milk. Would YOU actually make the effort to only buy from those who pay over 30p ? We already import over 1 Million Liters of milk in each day, shouldn't we just import it all if it means we can keep it cheaper than bottled water ?
  19. Yea twitter is a bit limiting ! It all sounds a bit crazy :-@ I'm really shocked. The UK has some of the highest animal welfare standards in all of Europe, in fact the EU still allow pigs to be tied up in crates while they fatten up a practice which has been banned in the UK for many years, they also keep newborn calve's in the dark to keep the meat white ie (white veal) again not a practice that is acceptable in the UK, so maybe they thaught what they were doing was ok. You were 100% right to be shocked, climbing up the pens wouldn't be acceptable at anywhere I know that the public can visit animals. it's a credit to you that you care about the animals, your the sort of folk that they are there for to visit. The parking when it's wet is a bit of a headache as we can't use the field because folk get the cars stuck and wreck the field, we wanted to hardcore a small patch but we are not allowed, we usally have loads less visitors on a wet day, but today was strange weather indeed.
